World Rankings – January 2025

Anthony Taylor has blown the whistle on January.
Here is the first World Rankings update of 2025:

At the last update, AFC Chester were down nine spots from the start of the season. But during the Christmas/New Year madness they recovered all nine places and made one extra. Cup wins against not one but two top-ten teams resulted in huge points for Chester. Similarly, AI-Jiggery-Pokery had a couple of successful games in the knockouts and climbed another 14 places themselves.

Somewhat less impressively, there were two other teams to win in both rounds of the BFFA Cup this month. Atletico Topo Chico rose a hard-fought three places since Gameweek 17 and IB Lausig (who have won all eight games in that period), only moved up four. However, with those points, the six teams above them are starting to look pretty catchable, including the highest-ranked retired team – Boss.

1682.55 World Ranking Points – The Boss Line – is the magical border between the Elite and the Field. De Bruyne Trousers surpassed Boss in Gameweek 12 with a 35-23 victory in the De Bruyne derby, and have been there since. Barons went above the Boss Line for one week early on (GW2), fell back, but then rose again, and have been in the upper eschelon since GW9. All Star Gunners have flirted with Elite status a lot this season. They have crossed the line ten times so far, firstly with an opening weekend win against IB Lausig, but losing it three weeks later. They, and Atletico Topo Chico, are currently within 3.3 points of the Boss Line, and they play each other next week! Whoever wins goes above Boss (for now).

Meanwhile, Gloopy Yarbles maintain their status as the #1 team in the World, and Housewives Favourite still hold #2 (excepting a minor blip in GW18). Mighty Fine have improved to third and Route 57 return to fourth. Smash & Grab are back down to fifth after four straight losses, and El Dude are up a step to sixth with four straight wins.

Other big movers include League Two’s breakaway top two – Boudi’s Crew are up thirteen since the December update, and Shams Army who are up nine. League rivals Partey Time are also up an incredible fifteen places, and it could have been five more if they hadn’t lost to Boudi’s Crew in the Second Round of the Cup last week. Finally, the highest-ranked newcomers are also continuing to improve. Tino’s Legacy are another seven places higher since the last post, that’s nineteen places in total, putting them 56th overall. Not bad for a first campaign!
