Spring Cup – The 2nd Round Replays

Ole’s at the Wheel (15) 47 – 53 Smash & Grab (3)

Ole’s at the Wheel, who moved up to third in League Two last weekend, hosted the Premier League leaders in a rematch that was to be decided before the bonus games on Wednesday. Both teams started Nick Pope in goal for Burnley and he was the only player to benefit from a double gameweek in this replay.
Smash & Grab made two changes before the match, Adding Alex McCarthy to their bench and Lewis Dunk into their starting line-up. Dunk collected a clean sheet against Villa on Saturday to add to goals from Maddison and Salah in the opening game of the weekend. At the other end, Matty Cash and Matt Targett both collected clean sheets from their game against The Seagulls and Vardy put the ball into an unguarded net against Liverpool. Both teams profitted from a Nick Pope clean sheet and three saves against Palace and the day finished 28-27 in favour of Smash & Grab.

Very little happened in this fixture the following day. There were four appearances for both teams and Luke Shaw was given an assist for his pass to Bruno Fernandes. The pendulum swung back; now 37-36 to OatWheel.
The tie was decided on Monday. Smash had two Hammers playing against bottom side Sheffield United and Ole had Mason Mount at home against the Toon. Mount played sixty-nine minutes and Chelski kept an empty net; he scored three points. Smash’s two defenders also kept a clean sheet that day and Cresswell also got an assist at The Olympic Stadium, giving Smash an eleven point lead. A comfortable win over the lower league side earns Smash a Third Round tie against current champions stilluvQPR.

The El Dude Brothers (14) 61 – 40 GoFYS FC (9)

The second replay also had a League Two side at home, in another rematch that was, effectively, decided before the extra games on Wednesday. Bros took on the former Premier League Champions GoFYS who are locked in a battle with AFC Chester for a promotion back to the top tier.
Both teams had players scoring well at the King Power; Firmino set up Mo Salah for Bros, but shortly afterwards Vardy scored for GoFYS and gave them the lead. In the second game, Ben Mee kept a clean sheet for Bros before suffering a concussion and Zaha remained absent from both squads. The third game was the decider in this tie because Ilkay Gundogan stole the headlines with two goals and an assist against Spurs before also coming off with an injury.

GoFYS struggled to find a reply to that. Saka picked up an assist in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leeds and Cresswell played the full ninety in West Ham’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United. With Richarlison playing for both teams on the final day, only Kyle Walker and Alphonse Areola remained but with a 21-point difference going into the final day, neither player made a dent in the result, both players matching each other with just two. The El Dude Brothers get past the Second Round at the second attempt and will go up against BattleVAR Galactico who have just knocked out their League Two rivals, K&R.

The El Dude Brothers:
Goals: Richarlison (37′), Gundogan (50′, 66′)

GoFYS FC:

The Last Sixteen

All Star Gunners (18) (6th, Prem) vs. Gloopy Yarbles (4) (3rd, Lge 1)
Gloopy Yarbles are starting to find their form again. After spending nine weeks in fourth place, they have recently reclaimed third spot and won a high-scoring six-pointer against Goleta Hotspur to open up a five-point gap between them and the bubble.
All Star Gunners have been falling off the pace, but have plugged the leak with a win over last season’s Championship Champions Tralfamadore Zoo this week. Danny Ings has scored in his last two games and is set to play for ASG against two Chelsea defenders in the Yarbles ranks. Meanwhile, Gloopy will be banking on Bruno Fernandes, who has played every week for them so far this season, playing against a Newcastle side that he scored against and also got an assist back in October. He also missed a penalty in their 4-1 win, but we hope that won’t happen again. Gloopy have scored over 50FPts in their last three gameweeks and ASG scored 51 this week, so this has the potential to be a high-scoring fixture.

BattleVAR Galactico (24) (8th, Lge 1) vs. The El Dude Brothers (13) (4th, Lge 2)
Both teams have been making good use of Richarlison this season, but it may be other players in the Merseyside Derby that make-or-break this tie. Bros’ most-utilised player, Roberto Firmino, will be set to face Bat Gal’s most-featured player Michael Keane at Anfield on Saturday evening. The League One side may also have Bellerin, who scored this week, and Gabriel facing one or more of Gundogan, de Bruyne and Aguero.
BattleVAR knocked out League Two opposition in their last round match and Bros can boast a top-ten scalp knocking out GoFYS in the replay described above. In their Leagues, Bros have won seven of their last nine while BattleVAR have had a little less success, winning three of their last six.

Bigger than Brolin (8) (4th, Prem) vs. Sporting Wicker Park (19) (7th, Champ)
Here is a game that has been drawn in the Cup before. In the 2016 BFFA Cup, Second Round, Sporting Wicker Park beat BtB 46-34 and went on to the Final.
This weekend we could be seeing Pedro Neto for SWP competing to score more than BtB’s Raphinha on Friday night. Sunday will be a busy day as Lacazette will hoping to be out to face Gabriel Jesus, Ruben Dias & Joao Cancelo while Odegaard, Gabriel and Saka will also be in contention to score points for Brolin.
BtB have averaged 52FPts in their last six gameweeks and SWP have scored 50 or more in three of those last six too.

Jaysokker (16) (3rd, Lge 2) vs. SB Town Baggers (5) (1st, Champ)
Two high-flying teams in their respective Leagues are also facing a Quarter-Final place and possibly more here.
SB Town are the in-form team going into this game, winning the last six in the League and knocking the Globes out in the last round. Jaysokker were closing in on top place, winning three in a row while Housewives stumbled, but narrowly lost to their rivals this week in a game that could put their title chase in jeopardy.
Angry and jaded, Jaysokker will probably be playing Son against SB Town’s Dawson and Bernardo Silva against Leno, Gabriel and Smith-Rowe. In return, SB Town will be hoping that Calvert-Lewin will be returning for the Merseyside Derby and Bruno Fernandes & Greenwood will be in good form against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Route 57 FC (2) (2nd, Champ) vs. Mighty fine feeling (7) (2nd, Prem)
The pair met less than two years ago in the Second Round of the 2019 BFFA Cup. Mighty fine feeling stormed the tie with a mighty 76FPts over a respectable 48. Mff made QF’s that year.
Mff are the Association’s in-form team, they’ve won their last seven games (eight including their 35-30 win over Hung in the last round) and have just beaten The Money Team to steal their second place spot in the top flight. Route 57 are also second in their league and just two points shy of top spot. They host Mff this coming weekend as the top-ranked remaining team in the Cup. Both teams have hit over 50FPts three times in the last six efforts, including the gameweek we’ve just finished, and will be eyeing up a Cup run to compliment their good league form this season

Smash & Grab (3) (1st, Prem) vs. stilluvQPR (14) (8th, Champ)
Smash are in a great run of form these days, having lost only once in their last fifteen games – a 35-34 loss to mid-table FC Santa Barbara. Meanwhile stilluvQPR have had a mixed run in the Championship, but are continuing their great run in the Cup after knocking out the highest-scoring team of the season so far. And they will come out fighting again this weekend with Son playing West Ham (and S&G’s Aaron Cresswell), who he has scored five against in eleven meetings, and Mo Salah playing in his fifth Merseyside Derby. The last time Salah played The Toffees he scored his 100th goal for Liverpool in a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. However, top-of-the-pyramid Smash & Grab also have te option to field the Egyptian alongside Bamford and Rashford playing against Wolves and Newcastle respectively. In their last meeting, Rashford scored and got two assists away at St. James’ Park.

Vanishing Spray FC (22) (7th, Prem) vs. Sorry not so sorry (23) (5th, Lge 2)
For the second round in a row, Spray face a team one place below them in the rankings. SNSS knocked out the 2018 Winners Tralfamadore Zoo in the last round and ended a run of three straight losses this week with a win over Cumberland FC. Spray also beat Cumberland in the previous round and also won this week, a win that catapulted them out of the relegation zone.
Sorry’s strength, or perhaps their weakness, will be in their thick Chelsea representation. Six of their starting eleven last weekend were wearing blue in their 2-0 win over Newcastle. Marcus Alonso got a clean sheet and Timo Werner scored. Facing them currently in Spray’s squad is Che Adams who scored against Chelsea and assisted Ings too the last time they met. Also appearing for Spray will be Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who also both scored against Newcastle back in October.

Webuiltthis City (11) (1st, Lge 1) vs. Wijnaldum Leviosa (6) (4th, Lge 1)
Wijaldum Leviosa joined the League halfway through the 2016/17 season, taking over bottom-placed 651 Billiamaires. In no time at all they turned the team around, taking them to the Cup Quarter-Finals and promotion out of League Two. Along the way they played Web City four times, winning all four games and knocking Web City out of the Cup in the First Round.
Currently the pair share League One and City have won both of their previous matches against Wij Lev. However, both are coming into this tie in great form – City have won seven of their last eight matches; Leviosa – eight of their last nine.
The pair meet in a League One match as well in a League-and-Cup double-header this weekend, both with Leeds and Southampton players hoping to appear twice over the gameweek.
