Spring Cup – First Round Results

The Cup is back!

It was an exciting First Round. Four games were decided by two points or less, and another game was drawn! The winners join the other twenty-four in Gameweek 23, but first a replay is needed to eliminate one more side.

Atletico Topo Chico 40 – 23 AC Reykjavik CobbleHill

ATC were the only team in the First Round to score three goals. Stuart Dallas scored early in the game against Leicester, scoring six points for both teams in this game. AC Rey couldn’t do much more to add to that; Jack Grealish had assisted Ross Barkley’s goal away at Southampton but with four players absent and no subs coming off the bench, CobbleHill bowed out quietly and ATC move on to face League Two rivals and title-challengers Jaysokker. The team second in L2 have beaten ATC both times they have met this season, and the pair will play each other in the League tomorrow (GW22).

Atletico Topo Chico:

AC Reykjavik CobbleHill:

Bielsaball 36 – 34 Chicken and Bacon Sane

Chicken and Bacon Sane scored twice in the penultimate game of the weekend through the resurgent Salah, but it wasn’t quite enough to see off Bielsaball who benefitted from Bamford’s goal + pair of assists. Bielsa, who needed a replay to get past the First Round of the Winter Cup, were knocked out by League One leaders RelicFC in the following tie. This tournament has given them League One’s number two team, Web City, to face in the Second Round to see if that’s any easier for them.

Bielsaball:
Goal: Bamford (70′)
Min: 872 G: 1 AT: 3 YC: 1 RC: 0

Chicken and Bacon Sane:
Goal: Salah (57′, 68′)
Min: 742 G: 2 AT: 0 YC: 1 RC: 0

East Loop United 43 – 25 Fossvogur

In this tie, two previous Cup Runners-Up were put up against each other as both attempted to reach the Final from the tournament start. The most recent losing Finalists, Fossvogur, couldn’t put up much of a fight this time with only Kyle Walker scoring more than three points. ELU had more luck from their Villa and Leeds players scoring 32 points combined, and strolled through to the next round. Coincidentally, they will be playing Gloopy Yarbles, the same team that knocked them out of the last tournament, 51-41.

East Loop United:
Goals: Barkley (41′), Harrison (84′)
Min: 842 G: 2 AT: 2 YC: 0 RC: 0

Fossvogur:

FC Santa Barbara 30 – 31 The Globes

The Globes beat FCSB for the first time and it was done by only a single point. Overcoming their 56-20 defeat in the First Round of the previous Cup, Globes set up a match against SB Town Baggers, another side that they have played four times before and never won. SB Town are currently second in the Championship, one point off the top, and fourth in the Bestish rankings.

The Globes:

Goleta Hotspur 25 – 24 Cornballers

As mentioned in the previous article, the pair met in the 2019 BFFA Cup and drew 28-28. This meeting also came very close to another draw and replay; indeed, had Michael Keane and/or Declan Rice not been booked this weekend then the tie could have gone in a different direction. But this time Goleta Hotspur prevailed and make an appearance in the Second Round for the first time since 2017.

Goleta Hotspur:
Goal: Barkley (41′)

Cornballers:

Harambe Hotspur 32 – 33 Banana Swans

Harambe made a fight for the game with a late goal at Anfield. Firmino assisted Wijnaldum in the 84th-minute and Hotspur collected all eight points from the strike, but unfortunately with no Alli or Kane in the final game of the weekend, nor any subs being brought on, Harambe fell one point short of tieing the game up. Banana Swans are rewarded with a home game against Wijnaldum Leviosa, who they last met in the 2019 Cup; Leviosa won 45-27.

Harambe Hotspur:
Goal: Wijnaldum (84′)
Min: 729 G: 1 AT: 1 YC: 3 RC: 0

Banana Swans:

Sugar Daddies 30 – 43 Cumberland FC

Cumberland FC have been in two Cup tourneys so far and have been part of the Final-Eight both times. They cleared the First Round here with ease last weekend thanks to a goal from Eze and assists from Grealish and Shelvey. They will face either Vanishing Spray or Boss in the next Round and it will be their first encounter with either team.

Cumberland FC:
Goal: Eze (60′)

Vanishing Spray FC 33 – 33 Boss

It was a slow start for both teams. Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Everton kept the five Everton players in this tie quiet and neither team managed to score any goals or assists on Saturday. The first day ended with Boss sitting on a 21-16 lead. On the second day Azpilicueta’s goal and clean sheet helped to give Spray a 32-22 lead, but Harrison’s goal for Leeds and four points from the Liverpool-West Ham game levelled the score and the tie ended 33-33.
The match will be replayed this week, kicking off tomorrow with Arsenal away at Wolves, possibly with Tierney and Lacazette representing Boss, followed by Man Utd hosting Southampton featuring nine players from both teams.

Goal: Azpilicueta (40′)
Min: 839 G: 1 AT: 0 YC: 2 RC: 0

Boss:
