The Spring Cup Final

Bigger than Brolin Win Second BFFA Cup!

It was a back-and-forth game, but Big Brol repeat their heroics four years after winning the 2017 Cup, and book a place in the first ever BFFA Super Cup Final.

Line-ups:

Bigger than Brolin (8) 59 – 43 Gloopy Yarbles (4)

The Spring Cup Final had a very slow start. Only Kelechi Iheanacho was on the pitch that night and Leicester struggled against Southampton, who once again had a player sent off in the first fifteen minutes. However, despite having the vast majority of possession, attacking movements and shots on goal, the deadlock was broken by the home team from the penalty spot. Leicester then replied with a goal from Jonny Evans, assisted by Iheanacho, and Yarbles were off the mark.
After Game #1: Bigger than Brolin (0 played; 11 to come) 0 – 5 Gloopy Yarbles (1 played; 10 to come).

The second match had four Man City players in contention for Big Brol against two for the Yarbles. Cancelo and Laporte cancelled each other out, both collecting six from their clean sheet, both having an unsuccessful shot on goal. Ruben Dias (BtB) and Phil Foden (Gloopy) were both on the bench for City and remained there for the whole game. Gabriel Jesus had two second half shots blocked but in the 58th minute, Ferran Torres – who was only signed on Friday morning – picked up the ball on the edge of the area and passed it into the back of the net for Bigger than Brolin.

Gloopy Yarbles dropped Brighton’s Joel Veltman after he appeared in the 1-0 loss to Sheffield United last week. Meanwhile, Bigger than Brolin signed Veltman in favour of Liverpool’s Ozan Kabak and placed him on the bench for the game against free-scoring Leeds. Brighton kept Leeds out on Day 2, and BtB had six points in reserve.
After that, the action continued at Stamford Bridge. Both sides had players appearing in Blue but this time it was the Yarbles that had a numerical advantage and this time a player did hit double figures. It was Kai Havertz who won the game for Chelsea and gave the League One side a huge advantage in the Cup Final. Both goals in Chelsea’s 2-0 win came off Havertz’s right boot and he collected 13FPts. Timo Werner, however, limited some of the damage by assisting Kai’s second and returned five points for BtB.
In the final game of the day, Everton’s Holgate (BtB) and Coleman (GY) matched each others’ two point score, but Calvert-Lewin arrived at the back post in the first half to meet Digne’s corner and scored for Yarbles.
After Game #5: Bigger than Brolin (5 played; 5 to come) 21 – 37 Gloopy Yarbles (6 played; 4 to come).

There were scenes at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Protests forced the game between United and Liverpool to be postponed, and this meant that Gloopy Yarbles would have no players playing that day. Dean Henderson, on Big Brol’s bench, would not come into contention either. Without having to face Fernandes and Cavani, Big Brol’s Spurs trio had an opportunity to regain some control in the Final. Despite Sheffield United’s recent touch of success last week, they capitulated once again in front a Tottenham team pushing for Europe. Spurs were dominant in attack and defence, and Bigger than Brolin profited out of both. Bale scored a hat-trick, earning himself 18FPts and Eric Dier collected a clean sheet. Hojbjerg also made an appearance.
After Game #8: Bigger than Brolin (8 played; 2 to come) 47 – 37 Gloopy Yarbles (6 played; 2 to come).

Monday gave us two more games. There were no clean sheets on the final day of the Spring Cup, but both goalkeepers put in a shift. Firstly, Sam Johnstone was keeping the sticks for BtB. He only came unstuck in first half injury time when Fabio Silva’s half-shot was deflected off Semi Ajayi’s boot and looped over the ‘keeper’s head. Johnstone was required to make nine saves during the game, which is as good as an assist in our books, and scored 5 points for the Premier League team. In the evening game, Nick Pope had less luck for Burnley and Gloopy, conceding twice to Antonio and not picking up any bonus points for saves. With that and both players fielding Daniel Podence in midfield, the Spring Cup Final ended in victory for Bigger than Brolin. Joel Veltman added to Big Brol’s final score after the final whistle, coming on with a well-earned six points and puts himself in contention for a starting place in the Super Cup Final.
