Season 9 – Gameweek 9

The results are in!

The first round-robin is through. That’s officially one game against each league opponent (and yes we will glaze over all those 0-0’s, sorry). So this puts us one-quarter of the way through the regular season. Towards the bottom of the article you can get a taste for the postseason, as the tables stand tonight.
And don’t forget to keep a watch over the World Rankings too. We had this season’s first change in the #1-World-Supremo spot last week and there will be more rises and falls every week.

Postseason Preview

What will happen in the final two gameweeks…

So at the end of Gameweek 36 the regular season ends and the top three in each League earn themselves a tasty little payout.

The top two get promoted and the bottom two get relegated.

Then in the post-season, the third-placed teams (Ch., L1, L2) and the eighth-placed teams (PL, Ch., L1) go into 3x two-legged Play-Off games.

If the lower-league teams win, they also get promoted. If the higher-teams win, they get to keep their place for another season.

Also, the mini-tourneys begin.

Mini-Tournament #1: Champion of Champions

The four League Champions will square off so one can claim to be the Greatest team of the season.
The highest pointscoring League Champion will play the lowest, and the other two play each other.

With the tables as they stand, it would be:
#1Gloopy Yarbles -v- #4Harambe Hotspur
#2Boss -v- #3Klopps and Robbers

The two winners play in Gameweek 38, and the winner of that Final will take away a potentially life-changing fifty extra dollars!

Mini-Tournament #2: The Runners-Up Mini-Tourney

Not including the four League Champions, the other ten teams that have qualified for next season’s Champions League (i.e. the 2nd- and 3rd-placed teams plus the CL Winners and the BFFA Cup winners) will play for a minor prize in a pre-CL mini-CL.

Two weeks, best combined score wins.

Mini-Tournament #3: The Wooden Spoon

We don’t like to highlight a loser, but we do like it when everyone plays until the final-final whistle. And where there’s a deterrant then hopefully there’s a competition.
The bottom two teams in each league will (be encouraged to) put out their best XI and hope to avoid a Sacko Bowl-style showdown in Gameweek 38.

GW37: Eight teams score matchpoints.
GW38: The two worst-scoring teams play-off. The loser is declared the worst-of-the-worst.

Mini-Tournament #4: The Champions League Qualifiers

At this point, there are still two Champions League spaces available.
The four fourth-placed teams will have a shot at earning one of those remaining spots.
(small print – the final positions of the CL & Cup winners may re-arrange which teams are entered).
Of the four competing – best pointscorers vs. the worst; #2 seeds vs. #3’s. Two legs.
Winners will appear in the 2023 CL Draw in August.

Mini-Tournament #5: The Intramural League Qualifiers

Next season there will be only four teams going into the IML from the mid-tables.
Each League will send one team into the IML Quarter Finals. To determine which team gets that shot, all the teams that don’t appear in one of the mini-tourneys above will be trying to get the best possible score from the final two gameweeks. The best scoring team from each League will go into the draw.
