Season 9 – Final Tables

The results are in!

After waiting for a Thursday night game at St. James’ Park, we can now wrap up the League season.

But before we report on the final gameweek, a quick thank you to Bryan Belyea, Director of Football for Sugar Daddies. As you will have read behind the scenes, Sugar Daddies will be retiring from the BFFA after six years with the Association.

Originally branded ‘Tapped Up‘, the side from Pennsylvania earned promotion last season when they beat Jaysokker 48-45 in the last game of the season and climbed two places to steal fourth place on points difference! They also came close to winning the BFFA Cup in 2019, going out in the Quarter-Finals to the eventual winners Smash & Grab. Had they managed to beat S&G that day, they would have gone all the way and lifted the trophy with superior scores in the final two Cup weeks.

They ended this season with a jaw-dropping 63-56 win over promotion-chasing Atletico Topo Chico, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to avoid the bottom two as rivals Ole’s at the Wheel also won their final game. However, it was still a good season for the Daddies as they climbed 20 places in the World Rankings, going from being as lowly as Iraq to being as good as Canada!
In all they took away 93 wins and collected over 8,500 fantasy points. They provided us with some phenomenal games, including a glorious victory in the 89-75 barnburner against Ardoyne Aardvarks last year (for reference, an average score is roughly 38). They also topscored in the league 10 times, most recently last week in the 60-53 thriller against East Loop United.

So to Bryan and all the backroom staff in the Sugar Daddies household – thank you so much and we wish you all the best. We have left the comments open at the bottom of the page for anyone who would like to contribute to his send-off. Thank you all.

I think we all knew how the top three would line up at the end of this week, with such a big matchpoint gap between the teams, so the high drama came from the other end of the table. With C&BS and FCSB already relegated before kickoff last Saturday, the only thing left to be decided was who would safely end the season by retaining their Championship status, and who would have to fight for it in the playoffs.

The battle for seventh was fought over by two managers with the same name in the same venue with the same objective. This was bigger than Liverpool v Everton, closer than Forest v County, more heated than Dundee v Dundee United, we’re talking Inter & AC Milan, we’re talking Lazio & Roma, this was a groundshare final. And how appropriate to do it across the week that saw Inter beat AC Milan 1-0 and book their place in the Champions League Final. This was another big derby game, this was the 12th Jenny Dees’ Dance-Off Derby AND the second such derby played on the last game of the season. Two years ago in the final gameweek, GoFYS FC won 39-27 to earn a promotion to the Premier League on Fantasy Points.

Well, there was no Champions League interest in this match, but it was pretty darn close. GoFYS were winning 41-40 after the first ten games, they were 52-51 up at the final whistle and had to wait for the bonus points to be added. Unfortunately for StillluvQPR and local hero Dan Burn, Brighton’s second-half goal took out two defensive clean sheets and Schär’s silly yellow card held them back. Meanwhile, Trippier’s two assists and two bonus points saved GoFYS from the play-offs and the potential of relegation.

So Housewives Favourites go into the Champion of Champions tournament as the #1 seed. El Dude Bros enter the Runners-Up pool with Gloopy and Hung Like a Bony.

Champions League winners Gloopy Yarbles can add a promotion to an already successful season when they go up against Route 57 FC next week. At the other end, StillluvQPR are also in play-offs and they will be defending their Championship place against ATC.

Stillluv will also have a chance to compete in the IML next season if they can win two qualifying games. Unfortunately, the first hurdle will be against GoFYS again! The winner of that game will face this week’s league topscorers Webuiltthis City.
