The End of Season Approaches…!

Q4: Nine games to go. One more league game against each opponent to decide titles, relegations, play-offs and qualification for tournaments next season!

Here’s what to watch for as we approach the Post-Season:

#1) The League Titles

This is the easy one. The teams at the top of each league at the end of Gameweek 36 win the titles.
Not only that, but the four League winners will playoff for another $50 and the title of:

Champion of Champions!

So, if it were to end today, we would see…
GW37: Housewives Favourites vs. Atletico Topo Chico (highest-scoring Champ vs. lowest-scoring Champ);
& Smash & Grab vs. Real Bastardos
Then, GW38: Winner vs. Winner

But, of course, there is still a long way to go. The top three leagues each have three teams within one win of the top spot, and the top two in League Two are 1-1-1 against each other this season. Their match this gameweek will be HUGE!

#2) The Runners-Up Trophy

All the teams finishing 2nd and 3rd will automatically qualify for the 2023 Champions League next season, as will the current Champions League Champions – Gloopy Yarbles – and the BFFA Cup Winners (to be decided).
These 8, 9, or 10 teams will play in a post-season mini-tournament – two weeks, the most accumulated points wins an additional $30.

#3) The Champions League Qualifiers

It starts to get a little bit tricky at this point, but don’t worry, we’ve got this.
If Gloopy Yarbles (Champions League winners, currently second in the Championship) finish outside of the top four (unlikely as it is), and the Cup Winners also finish fifth or lower, then the final two Champions League places will be decided by a play-offs:
The highest-scoring Fourth Place team -v- the lowest-scoring Fourth Place team.
Also, Fourth-place B -v- Fourth-place C.
So today, our fourth-placed teams are We have Kompany, Hung LaB, Fergi Time and CG XI.

However, if either or both the CL/Cup winners finish in a top-four place, then their place(s) will be taken by their league rivals in fourth and the qualification places will go to the highest-scoring team not yet qualfied for a spot, ie. the highest-scoring team outside of the top four places. So, please keep an eye on the Best-ish table every week.

As it stands, Hung Like a Bony would automatically qualify for the Champions League (as 4th place in Gloopy Yarbles’ league) and Peltier would get a play-off match (as the next-best unqualified team in the BFFA).
Today, the top reserves – the top five scoring teams not currently in a top-four league position are:
Peltier, 1193 FPts (Sixth, League One)
All Star Gunners, 1177 FPts (Fifth, Championship)
Boss, 1148 FPts (Eighth, Premier League)
Route 57 FC, 1124 FPts (Seventh, Premier League)
Orewa Ostriches, 1095 FPts, (Sixth, League Two)

#4) The Intramural League Qualifiers

If you finish 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th then you are in the IML Playoffs (unless you win the BFFA Cup then good luck in the Champions League next season).
Each League will send one representative to the IML in September.
In GW37, 5th will play 8th & 6th plays 7th. The winners of each game will playoff in GW38 for qualification. Only three teams? Then the top team gets a first-week bye. Lovely.

#5) The Wooden Spoon

This one is much easier, but cruel. The bottom two from each league have their own tournament to play in to avoid being this season’s worst team. No-one wants that. So if you finish ninth or tenth in your league, then you will be under the microscope as a coach. The pressure is on.

Eight teams – the worst two scores in Gameweek 37 will be set up in a final week showdown. Win there and save your blushes. Lose that and you’ll be made to remember it (but be thankful that we didn’t set any forfeits this year!)

#6) The Playoffs!

Finally, the highlight of the post-sesaon will be our inaugural Promotion Play-offs.
#1) 8th, Premier League -v- 3rd, Championship: Winner gets a Premier League place in Season 10.
#2) 8th, Championship -v- 3rd, League One: Winner gets a Championship place in Season 10.
#3) 8th, League One -v- 3rd, League Two: Winner gets a League One place in Season 10.
Two Legs, GW37 & GW38.

Enjoy.
