Season 8 – Gameweek 3

The results are in!

Manchester United set a new record, Chris Wood scores the Premier League’s 30,000th goal and two more red cards shaped GW3.

It was a short gameweek that started off with Man City thrashing Arsenal and ended with United taking Arsenal’s record of consecutive undefeated away games. Tough weekend if you’re a Gooner.
How are you getting on? Are you lording it up like Tottenham or are you considering a managerial change already?

Premier League

It can’t go unnoticed that for a third week in a row, Drafty have come up against the topscoring team in the league and again put up a good score to no avail. All Star Gunners won a high-scoring game against The Money Team and Mighty Fine Feeling also got an away win against Vanishing Spray. In two lower-scoring games this week, Route 57 won again and GoFys took three points from a quiet Smash & Grab.

Route 57 FC keep their 100% record and now hold a 3-point lead at the top of the Premier League. SB Town’s top score gives them a second win and they climb up to second, pushing Vanishing Spray down to third. With their win over Spray, MFF rise one place to fourth and sit in a Champions League place. Three points for GoFys gives them a place in the top half at the break and a first win for ASG lifts them off the bottom & gets them back in the battle.

Next up:
The first time ASG met GoFys, the Gunners knocked their opponents out of the 2016 BFFA Cup. The last time they met, the game finished up as a 62-62 thriler. In Gameweek 4, they will cross paths in the Premier League for the first time.
Drafty have won their last three games against MFF and will go into the next one as the higher-scoring team.
First meets third in a rematch of one of last season’s Spring Cup QFs; Spray knocked R57 out there, 54-46.
There is another PL reunion for SB Town and Money Team. They last met in Season 4 when Money registered an impressive 73 over Town’s 41. And the last five seasons have seen Smash and FCSB both compete in the Premier League; Smash have won 9 of their encounters (including four of the last five on their way to becoming PL Champions), Santa Barbara have won 8 and there has been one draw.

Championship

With a strong defensive line-up and a first goal for Ivan Toney, top of the League AFC Chester collected another win and keep their number one spot. A second consecutive win for East Loop United came courtesy of Bamford and Gabriel Jesus. Boss came back from that one-point loss last week to win by a long way against Sporting Wicker Park, and record their 100th League win in the BFFA. Webuiltthis City were rewarded with the best score of the week thanks to Keane coming off the bench to replace Lindelöf. Finally, in the second-highest-scoring game of the week, 10-man Wijnaldum Leviosa took the three points away from a Gloopy Yarbles side that had Antonio and Varne hit double-figures. Budweiser’s King of the Week Ferran Torres scored 18 and earned Leviosa their first win of the season.

AFC Chester and Webuiltthis City continued to blaze a trail through the opening month of the season, the former setting the bar high with a total of 164 FPts. ELU’s victory move them up into the promotion places and the wins for Boss and Wijnaldum Leviosa moved both of them up three places too.

Next up:
AC Reykjavik made the Semi-Finals of the 2018 Champions League after finishing second in their group. They won four and lost two; both games they lost were against the Barons. This will be their first meeting since, and both are in need of a second win after losing the last two.
In the final game of last season, AFC Chester beat Sporting Wicker Park 50-44 to clinch Fourth and a Champions League place. Next time out they will be up against SWP and will also be in Champions League action too. Chester have won six of their nine games against SWP and are well-placed to win the tenth.
Gloopy Yarbles and Boss are the exception here, they haven’t yet played each other in the BFFA. Last season’s BFFA Cup Runners-Up Gloopy Yarbles have had a difficult start to the new season, losing to the current league leaders and losing to Wijnaldum this week with a 50+ score. Boss, who won the Championship in 2019, have been winning with less and came within just 2FPts of winning all three.
StilluvQPR and East Loop United finished fifth and seventh in the Championship last season. They both won two games against the other, but more impressively – ELU won all four games against the Champions Route 57, while StilluvQPR won two and drew another one. ELU are back in form, winning their last two games while StilluvQPR are still without a point so far this season.
Webuiltthis City and Wijnaldum Leviosa have been exchanging blows since Season 3. The count is seven wins each. Leviosa won the most recent game, 48-26, towards the end of last season, but City won the six games before that. Although City have won all three of their matches so far this season, Wijnaldum’s scores have been increasing each week and they turned it into a win against the Yarbles on Sunday.

League One

League One’s team of the week, About to get Messi, played like they actually had him against The El Dude Brothers as they passed the 60-point mark. Not far behind them, Hung Like a Bony made it back-to-back wins against Banana Swans. League leaders Housewives Favourite escaped a sub-80-point match with a win against BattleVAR, and Chicken and Bacon Sane survived a similar ordeal, scraping past Cornballers with a score of 33. Ole’s at the Wheel collected a second win with their second 50+FPt game of the season.

As with the Championship, there are two remaining teams on intact winning streaks. Housewives Favourite hold on to the top spot with a greater FPts total, but not far behind them are Ole’s at the Wheel with 155 FPts. Hung Like a Bony and About to get Messi climbed a lot of places into the top half, all at the expense of the five teams that lost this week.

Next Up:
League One returns with the undefeated Chicken and Bacon Sane taking on Goleta Hotspur who are looking for their first points of the season. Goleta beat C&BS thrice last season but lost to them 28-27 in GW36. Cornballers face Banana Swans with both teams having identical form at this point – WLL. Last season both teams came down together having a symmetrical head-to-head record – W2D1L2, which included the lowest-scoring game in BFFA history – 3-0 to the Cornballers.
The El Dude Brothers will remember Ole’s at the Wheel from League Two last season, and they will not have forgotten being knocked out of the Winter Cup by OatWheel either, 43-40 in the Second Round. (Oatwheel were subsequentially knocked out in the next round by Housewives Favourite). The league leaders will be reunited with About to get Messi; both shared back-to-back promotions from the Nashunal Leeg and League Two too. Finally, Hung LaB who climbed up the ladder this week will play BattleVAR, who were overtaken after their narrow loss.

League Two

Atletico Topo Chico owned the game against the early league leaders Ardoyne Aardvarks. Double figures for Son and Buendia, plus big scores for Reguilon, Bamford and Maguire too, were more than enough to take the W from eight-man Aardvarks. The Average Team were prevented from going top by Varane and Calvert-Lewin for Jaysokker. Fergi Time and Cumberland FC won their games by just two points. Goals from Antonio, Toney and Wilson gave Fergi Time their first win of the season, Chris Wood’s landmark goal against Leeds gave Cumberland the edge over Peltier and finally Sugar Daddies added to the woes of The Globes with a second away win in a row.

A big win for ATC means they replace the Aardvarks at the top of League Two at the break but, once again, L2 is incredibly tight as six teams go into Week 4 on six points. Jaysokker, Sugar Daddies, Cumberland and Fergi Time all also moved upwards this week.

Next Up:
When we return, the Average Team will be setting a target for Ardoyne Aardvarks. New boys Peltier and Fergi Time, both hunting a second win, take on Harambe and Sugar Daddies. Second-placed Jaysokker take on bottom side Globes and the league leaders play Cumberland FC, whom they faced five times last season, winning four.
