Season 8 – Gameweek 2

The results are in!

Two in the books. One more and you can have a break.

From the twenty teams that won last week, only eight were good enough to win again and give themselves a right to be considered as League Favourites. Eight teams are still without a win. But there’s a long, long way to go yet.

Premier League

It’s early on, but the new best score of the season so far was chalked up by Route 57. For the second consecutive week, Drafty stunned the League with 61, but found themselves up against a side having a slice of incredible luck. The best of the rest, SB Town, turned last week’s 35 into a 53 and got the win they were looking for. Mighty Fine Feeling and Smash & Grab also turned their fortunes into wins. ASG were unlucky, as were Money, who lost by one goal’s-worth to Vanishing Spray.

Route 57 top the Premier League and the Best-ish race with two wins and two excellent scores. Vanishing Spray came out victorious from two close games and hold second. Smash & Grab rise four places with their high-scoring win and SB Town Baggers followed suit, climbing five spots to fourth with another 50+ score. Mighty Fine Feeling enjoyed a good win too to bring themselves up into the top half of the table. Money, GoFys and FCSB slide down this week with those losses and spare a thought for Drafty, ranked second overall on FPts(!), still waiting for a win.

Next up:
Bottom side All Star Gunners beat The Money team in the last game of last season and that win earned them a spot in the Champions League. This will be the twenty-first meeting between the pair and one that ASG will feel like they need to win if they’re going to challenge the top four again.
Two pairs of teams will be meeting for the first time – Drafty & SB Town, and FC Santa Barbara & Route 57. GoFys will face the Champions Smash & Grab and Vanishing Spray will face last season’s Premier League runners-up Mighty Fine Feeling.

Championship

Despite solid returns from Aymeric Laporte and Mason Greenwood, League leaders AC Reykjavik were stunned by East Loop United 59-39. ELU held clean sheets from all three of their back line and could’ve had more, but Guaita was keeping the bench warm. AFC Chester moved up a place into First with a 10-point win over Wijnaldum Leviosa, thanks largely to Benrahma’s 12 in the final match of the gameweek, and Webuiltthis City step up two into Second with a 1-point win over Boss. The game between Gloopy Yarbles and Barons FC could’ve been a lot closer, but Michail Antonio’s Man-of-the-Match performance against Leicester gave Yarbles a comfortable win and moves them up from ninth to fifth. Finally, Sporting Wicker Park‘s waiver acquisition Romelu Lukaku scored 8FPts this week and gave them an 8-point win against StilluvQPR, moving them off the bottom but only as high as eighth in the League.

AFC Chester never quite reached the number one spot last season, but they’re back there again now and fourth in the Best-ish table too. Webuiltthis City are the only other team with two wins in the Championship tonight, but have scored far, far worse. Behind them, AC Rey, ELU and Gloopy Yarbles are ready to leapfrog them into the top two places; Barons and Boss aren’t far behind either.

Next up:
The league leaders of this week and last, despite playing in their sixth and eighth season respectively, have never faced each other up close. They will meet on Saturday as the the top two scoring teams in the Championship (albeit after only two weeks) and as two prime candidates for promotion. Web City will play winless StillluvQPR, and Gloopy Yarbles “travel” to Wijnaldum Leviosa who are also looking for their first win. Gloopy and Wijnaldum are sharing a League for the fourth year in a row; they’ve met twelve times and won six games each. This will be game #13 for them.
Boss were denied their 100th League win this week by just two fantasy points, so they will be looking to claim it against Sporting Wicker Park instead. The last time they met SWP, Boss’ Blues won 54-27 in the season they won the Championship title (2018/19). Barons FC collected their 100th win in all competitions last week, in the victory over SWP (which might seem like a good omen to Boss). This coming weekend the Barons will face East Loop United, who they played in the 2018 Champions League group stage. In their two games together they won one match each, but neither progressed to the Quarter-Finals.

League One

For the second week in a row, Housewives Favourite pass the 50-pt mark and racked up another win. Chicken and Bacon also make it two-from-two, while Hung Like a Bony beat Cornballers 45-34 for their first win of the season. Two other teams that had lost last week – BattleVAR and The El Dude Brothers – got off the mark at the second time of asking; the former thrashing Goleta 57-28 and the latter scored the same, but Banana Swans put up more of a fight.

Housewives Favourite stay where they are, top of the League for the 34th week in a row. Chicken and Bacon Sane climb a place into second and Ole’s at the Wheel hold on to third.
There were big moves up for BattleVAR & Bros and Hung LaB also climbed out of the relegation zone too. Unfortunately, three teams failed to reach 40FPts this week and that cost them all a place in the top seven.

Next Up:
Housewives Fave will play BattleVAR for the first time, a week after the Galaticos outscored the League leaders. Third-placed Ole’s at the Wheel will face tenth-placed Goleta for the first time too. Chicken and Bacon Sane will meet Cornballers for the first time since New Years Day 2018; Gadagnome knocked Cornballers out of the Cup in the First Round.
Banana Swans came down from the Championship last year alongside Hung Like a Bony. Hung won three of their four meetings last season, but Swans won their most recent encounter. Similarly, About to get Messi and The El Dude Bros were both promoted from League Two last summer; Messi won three of their four matches, but Bros broke that streak the last time they met.

League Two

Coming very close to recording the gameweek’s high score were the Ardoyne Aardvarks. Double figures for Lloris, Laporte, Mings, Greenwood AND Gabriel Jesus earned them top place in League Two, even with only playing ten men. That win meant that Fergi Time fell to a second-straight defeat, despite them improving on last weeks 51FPts. That score of 72 raised the average for the league well above Peltier‘s effort of 43, and the Average Team recorded a second victory too.
Last week’s league leaders Jaysokker narrowly missed out on another win in the final game of the week. With Schmeichel seeing four go past him, Barnes and Vardy only had to play sixty minutes to give Sugar Daddies a return to winning ways. Atletico Topo Chico and Cumberland are also off the mark with wins over second-placed Harambe and The Globes respectively.

After starting quietly, Ardoyne turned the heat up and go top with a blazing win over Fergi Time. Despite having the second-best points tally in the League, Fergi Time are now sitting in ninth place in what has to be one of the unluckiest starts to a BFFA season (not forgetting Drafty of course). The Average Team occupy second for now, but Jaysokker, ATC and Harambe are close behind with better FPts totals.

Next Up:
The Globes will meet Sugar Daddies for the fifth successive season. Last time out, The Globes won 38-31. ATC, who climbed three spots this week, will face leaders Ardoyne, who climbed four. Fergi Time play Harambe Hotspur, with both teams on similar points totals after the first two games. Peltier and Cumberland are both reeling from narrow defeats to the Average Team; they will play each other before the international break and this week it is the turn of Jaysokker to try to hit an above-average score for a win.
