Our first Battle of the Champions ends in a win for Big Brol
In a week-long battle of attrition, the Spring Cup Winners emerge victorious and claim a fourth historic title.
stilluvQPR (11) 46 – 56 Bigger than Brolin (7)
Our first Super Cup did reward us with a 102-point finale, but surprisingly only four goals were scored. Benteke scored both goals for Bigger than Brolin, both in the opening two minutes of Palace’s games against Sheffield United and Southampton. StilluvQPR scored goals through Son & Salah, the seventh time this season that both have scored in the same gameweek. In a similar situation to the FA Cup Final, the BFFA Super Cup was played out with league competition still going on. Both teams were also looking for automatic qualification into next season’s Champions League via a Super Cup victory.
Son’s first half goal away at Leeds opened the scoring early on Saturday afternoon, but shortly afterwards a Benteke shot was deflected past Aaron Ramsdale and Big Brol were ahead. Palace kept their net clear and Ward picked up four clean sheet points too. Big Brol kept that lead through to the end of play Saturday, despite stilluvQPR collecting nine from the Southampton-Liverpool game in the evening.
After 5 games: stilluvQPR 15 – 17 Bigger than Brolin
Sunday began with Sanchez equalizing for stilluv, his two appearance points pulled them back to 17-17. That was followed by Villa v Man United; Targett (3GAD) and Maguire (1YC) collected a point each for stilluv; Barkley added two for Big Brol and Dean Henderson (5Sv) gave Big Brol the lead once more. That advantage lasted until full-time of the following game, Sigurdsson’s midfield clean sheet plus appearances for Lingard and Richarlison put stilluvQPR ahead by 2. But once again, the lead changed with the subsequent match, this time there was some actual action when Saka set up Smith Rowe to open the scoring at the Emirates. Big Brol collected eight fantasy points and went to bed six points up.
After 9 games: stilluvQPR 25 – 31 Bigger than Brolin
Neither side had anyone playing on Monday, and Tuesday only offered Southampton versus Crystal Palace (with both of United’s Super Cup players rested for the earlier game against Leicester). Benteke made the most of a sleepy Southampton defence early on and put the ball between the legs of Forster to score a second for Big Brol. In doing so, he denied Vestergaard of a clean sheet with the only goal that Palace managed to put away. Had it been successfully defended then stilluvQPR could have been nine points closer and ended the day level, but that was the moment when Big Brol took control of the game and there was no coming back for the Championship side.
After 12 games: stilluvQPR 28 – 37 Bigger than Brolin
Mason Mount, who had been left out of the City game, returned to face Arsenal on Wednesday. He was in direct opposition to Big Brol’s Arsenal duo of Gabriel and Saka, but despite having three shots on target he was unable to get the ball past Leno and the Gunners won 1-0. The next day featured the most played game in English League football – Aston Villa V Everton. It was their 142nd meeting and their 13th 0-0 draw, which was good news for the defenders Targett (stilluv) and Holgate (BigBrol), not so much for Sigs, Richarlison or Barkley. Finally, the bonus game – United v Liverpool – put Salah up against Henderson with stilluv needing the Egyptian to score a hat-trick to win the Super Cup. He did score one of his four shots, effectively a one-on-one with the goalkeeper from the halfway line, but Bigger than Brolin had set the bar too high and saw the week out comfortably.
