Season 7 – The Big Finale!

The results are in!

It’s unusual to have a midweek penultimate gameweek, but that’s what we were given. Ten games in two days, exciting stuff! Some Premier League teams are finishing the season out with three games in eight days, rotations are being made, and once again the deep sleepers rise to the surface.

Premier League

*: Clinched CL Place; Blue Line – Champions League Places; Red Line – Relegation Zone

Gameweek 37
AC Reykjavik CobbleHill 14 – 37 All Star Gunners
Bigger Than Brolin 19 – 35 FC Santa Barbara
Boss 37 – 46 Vanishing Spray FC
The Money Team 22 – 38 Smash & Grab
Tralfamadore Zoo FC 20 – 44 Mighty fine feeling

Vanishing Spray FC saved their season this week with a 9-point win over relegation-threatening Boss. Spray scored two on the second day, early on from Richarlison’s winner over Wolves and then later when Ogbonna headed in at the back post away at The Hawthorns. The result opens the trapdoor and Boss get the drop back to the Championship just two seasons after winning the tournament. They join AC Reykjavik who won the Championship in 2018 and Tralfamadore Zoo who topped the League at the conclusion of last season. Next year’s second tier will be a hotly-contested tournament.

AC Rey are now winless in four. The most recent victors, All Star Gunners didn’t just take the three points but they also knicked fourth place from Bigger than Brolin. Big Brol, who have lost three on the trot, have one chance to reclaim the place they’ve held since gameweek 18. They face a relieved Vanishing Spray, who they have beaten four times already this season, while ASG play third-placed The Money Team, a fixture that will be the twentieth meeting between the pair. ASG have won 11 of the previous 19, 2 out of the 4 in this season.

The Money Team lost to the new League Champions this week and Smash & Grab notched their total upto 87 League Points. A win from their last game would help them reach the magical 90-Point mark, a feat that has only been achieved once before (Route 57, League One, 2018/19). Finally, Mighty fine feeling saw off rivals Tralfamadore Zoo again this week and will face another relegated side, Boss, in the final game of the season with nothing but pride to play for. Mff have beaten Boss in all four meetings this term, a fifth win would give them a full set.

To Be Decided…
The only thing left to be decided in the Premier League now is that last Champions League place, and the outcome of that has ramifications on teams in all four Leagues.
If – Bigger than Brolin fail to win – or – BtB win and the All Star Gunners win too, then ASG win a place in next season’s Champions League.
If – Bigger than Brolin win and All Star Gunners lose or draw, then ASG will miss out and a CL Place will open up for another team – either stilluvQPR or the Best-ish Reserve Team. See Reservesbelow.

Premier League Remaining Fixtures:
AC Reykjavik CobbleHill -v- Tralfamadore Zoo FC
All Star Gunners -v- The Money Team
Mighty fine feeling -v- Boss
Smash & Grab -v- FC Santa Barbara
Vanishing Spray FC -v- Bigger Than Brolin

Championship

*: Clinched CL Place; Green Line – Promotion; Blue Line – Champions League Places; Red Line – Relegation Zone

Gameweek 37
AFC Chester 38 – 35 East Loop United
Banana Swans 28 – 31 stilluvQPR
Cornballers 26 – 28 Sporting Wicker Park
GoFYS FC 26 – 38 Hung Like a Bony
Route 57 FC 46 – 45 SB Town Baggers

The showpiece top-of-the-League clash was a real exhibition, concluding in a dramatic standoff with both teams fielding high-scoring Liverpool defenders. Andrew Robertson assisted two of Liverpool’s three goals and scored twelve points for the League Champions. Nat Phillips scored the other goal and also marked up a dozen, for the Championship Runners-Up. An 87th-minute yellow card for Craig Dawson impacted SB Town’s score, then at the whistle ten points for Alisson + Fabinho rocketed R57 up to 46 and a one-point win.

A second consecutive loss for GoFYS has not only caused them to postpone the promotion party, but left them vulnerable to losing their third place completely. Below them are two other teams that would love to steal the cake and dance their way onto Premier League street. One of those teams is their GW38 opponents and rivals stilluvQPR. This week sees a fifth Jenny Dees’ Dance-Off Derby of the season. Both have won two games each so far, but none have been as crucial as this. With just two points between the teams, it’s winner-takes-all. Albeit, it would be that simple if it weren’t for AFC Chester stuck between the two. Level on points with GoFYS, Chester really need a favour from the Winter Cup Champions to get ahead, however, stilluvQPR would also like to feature in the top flight and can get there this weekend if results go their way.

That most recent defeat to GoFYS was dealt to them by Hung Like a Bony, a team who were granted exile from League One by the grace of vacant slots last summer. That win gave them another five days’ grace, but in order to earn the right to remain they require at least one more point and the only place they can get it is from the new Champions Route 57. On top of that, Hung LaB need East Loop United to drop points to SB Town this Sunday. ELU have been with the BFFA since the start and have not yet played one minute in the third tier. Their status as a Championship team is in their hands and they won’t be going down without a fight.

To Be Decided…
There are things to be fought over at both ends of the table in the Championship. At the top, Route 57 and SB Town Baggers have already earned promotion to the Premier League. There are still three teams that can earn a place in the top flight next season.
Below the green line, the team on the bubble will be handed a place in the 2021 Champions League but will miss out on promotion. The team that finishes fifth will miss out on both, (unless stilluvQPR finish fifth & Big Brol finish fourth). Luckily for us, two of these teams – stilluvQPR and GoFYS FC play each other in the final game for added excitement!
If – GoFYS and Chester have the same result, GoFYS will stay above Chester unless Chester outscore them by 30 FPts. Aside from a large fantasy points turnaround, if GoFYS win they will keep 3rd place and win promotion.
If – stilluvQPR win then they will go above GoFYS. If Chester fail to win as well then stilluv will go third.
If – GoFYS lose or tie, then AFC Chester can retake third with a win

At the bottom of the table, we already know that Banana Swans and Cornballers will be relegated. The third team to be relegated will be either East Loop United or Hung Like a Bony. Unfortunately for them, they are both playing promoted teams. East Loop United have the advantage and know that a win on Sunday will save them. Hung also know that if they win and ELU lose or draw, they will steal back seventh and avoid the drop.
If – ELU win, they keep 7th; Hung LaB will be relegated.
If – ELU draw and Hung lose/draw, ELU stay 7th. If – both teams lose, they stay as they are.
If – ELU lose and Hung draw, Hung will climb to 7th (unless ELU somehow outscore Hung by 70 FPts).
If – Hung win and ELU don’t, Hung take 7th and ELU will be relegated

Championship Remaining Fixtures:
Cornballers -v- Banana Swans
East Loop United -v- SB Town Baggers
Hung Like a Bony -v- Route 57 FC
Sporting Wicker Park -v- AFC Chester
stilluvQPR -v- GoFYS FC

League One

*: Clinched CL Place; Green Line – Promotion; Blue Line – Champions League Places; Red Line – Relegation Zone

Gameweek 37
BattleVAR Galáctico 48 – 28 Goleta Hotspur
Chicken and Bacon Sane 12 – 42 Sugar Daddies
Gloopy Yarbles 42 – 19 Harambe Hotspur F.C.
RelicFC 16 – 36 Webuiltthis City
The Globes FC 31 – 46 Wijnaldum Leviosa

After losing by 3 FPts against Alisson and the Sugar Daddies last week, League leaders Webuiltthis City finally stopped the rot with a (somewhat unconvincing) win over second placed RelicFC. The win keeps Web City on top and just about out of reach of Relic with that one game to go. The league’s top pointscorers Gloopy Yarbles took advantage of the two sides above them playing each other and moved up into second with their fifth win against now-relegated Harambe Hotspur. Had Web and Relic drawn, Gloopy could’ve been top this morning. The new top two will play each other this weekend in a do-or-die contest for the number one spot!

Wijnaldum Leviosa, who are still hoping that the planets will align and open a door into the Champions League, have had fourth spot secured for weeks and, should anyone above them drop out after the season closes, could yet gain promotion via a default. However, their focus is currently on scoring as much as possible and hoping that Big Brol and stilluv can do the business on Sunday. High-scoring Ederson, Jack Harrison, and Andy Robertson are playing well and will hopefully all feature on Sunday. Like R57, Robertson brought home twelve points for the cause this week and the Leviosas registered a huge six assists against The Globes. Next, they play the team below them with the result next to meaningless, only hoping to score well and wishing for the best elsewhere.

To Be Decided…
In a thrilling end to the season, the top three, all already guaranteed promotion, are playing for position. The top two will meet for a fifth time this season to decide who will take the title; Gloopy Yarbles won their first two meetings this season, Webuiltthis City won the latter two. RelicFC, in third place, can return to second if they beat Chicken and Bacon Sane and Gloopy lose or draw.

Still eyeing up a Champions League place, Wijnaldum Leviosa are poised to step up if Bigger than Brolin move up to fourth place with a win and stilluvQPR also climb a place (or two). After outscoring Klopps and Robbers by 46 to 30 this week, Wijnaldum Leviosa now have a 26-point advantage over K&R who are next in line to the gig, should that CL spot become available.

League One Remaining Fixtures:
Chicken and Bacon Sane -v- RelicFC
Goleta Hotspur -v- Wijnaldum Leviosa
Harambe Hotspur F.C. -v- The Globes FC
Sugar Daddies -v- BattleVAR Galáctico
Webuiltthis City -v- Gloopy Yarbles

League Two

Gameweek 37
Bielsaball 39 – 30 Klopps and Robbers
Cumberland FC 27 – 34 Atletico Topo Chico
Fossvogur FC 25 – 37 The El Dude Brothers
Jaysokker 27 – 18 Ole’s at the Wheel
Sorry not so sorry 25 – 48 Housewives Favourite

The second-best scoring team in League Two suffered a season-ending loss to eighth-placed Bielsaball this week. It was the first time that Bielsa had beaten Klopp in five attempts in what proved to be the most decisive game of their season. The El Dude Brothers, who were dangling the carrot in third place, took it away with a win over rivals Fossvogur and climbed up to second, by the rights of points scored. They have a 24-point advantage over Ole’s at the Wheel going into the final game after OatWheel failed to impress against midtable Jaysokker.

The best scoring team in the whole Association, Housewives Favourite, had another standout game – topscoring the week with 48 FP (jointly with BattleVAR) thanks to putting faith in Nat Phillips, Michail Antonio and current sensation Joe Willock. At the other end of the table, wins for Bielsaball and Atletico Topo Chico helped to move them away from the bottom of League Two, although ATC still have a difficult game against Bros before they find out who will finish last.

To Be Decided…
In a much more gentle end to the season, League Two only has one prize money place to be decided. The El Dude Brothers and Ole’s at the Wheel are level on 69 points and both guaranteed a top three finish. They play their final games hoping to outscore each other and sealing a second-place finish. Bros have a 24FP advantage going into Sunday’s finale, so if both teams get the same result, then the place and the $100 difference will go to the team with the best FP total. Housewives Favourite had the title sewn up weeks ago and now it looks certain that they will be collecting the Best-ish Trophy this season too!

In a “we can dream” scenario, there is an outside chance that fourth place could also offer a promotion to League One. In the event that any managers decide to bow out of the game in the offseason, teams in League Two always benefit the most with more teams moving up to fill the gaps. So,
If – we lose any teams from the top three Leagues during the summer, fourth place then becomes hot property. Klopps and Robbers hold a strong advantage for that place and will hold it if they win or draw on Sunday. However, Jaysokker could pinch it back if they win and K&R lose, and after being in the top three for most of the season the Jays would very much like to be considered for a move to League One if a place becomes available.

Also, as mentioned elsewhere in this article, Klopps and Robbers do still have a long shot at Champions League qualification too. If – Big Brol and stilluvQPR finish in the top four, and K&R outscore Wij Lev by 27FPts or more this weekend, then we could see K&R in the CL Draw next September. You never know!

League Two Remaining Fixtures:
Housewives Favourite -v- Fossvogur FC
Klopps and Robbers -v- Cumberland FC
Ole’s at the Wheel -v- Bielsaball
Sorry not so sorry -v- Jaysokker
The El Dude Brothers -v- Atletico Topo Chico

The 2021 Champions League Qualifiers

In case you haven’t heard, the Champions League will be returning next season with another 16-team tournament!
Entering the CL next season, so far we have:
➥ Three League Champions, who will be seeded and therefore avoid each other in next season’s Champions League Group Stage.
➥ Eight other teams that have qualified via their League position.
Either Webuiltthis City or Gloopy Yarbles will become the fourth seeded team this weekend.
➥ One Super Cup winner – Bigger than Brolin.
➥ The returning Champions League Champion – Tralfamadore Zoo.

They will be joined by:
➢ The 4th placed team in the Premier League – either All Star Gunners or Bigger than Brolin.
➢ The 3rd & 4th placed teams in the Championship – two of: GoFYS, AFC Chester and stilluvQPR.

If Bigger than Brolin qualify via finishing in fourth place, their Super Cup spot will be filled by the Winter Cup Champions – stilluvQPR. If both Bigger than Brolin and stilluvQPR finish in the Top 4 in their divisions, that free space will go to the highest scoring team that hasn’t yet qualified.

If the season were to end today and a space was available, Wijnaldum Leviosa would be that team with 1524 FPts.
Closely behind them are Klopps & Robbers who, if they have a high score in their final match, could move above Wijnaldum this weekend.
If there is a space available and two (or more) teams are level on Fantasy Points, then the tie would be decided by Goals Scored. Currently, Wijnaldum Leviosa have scored 69 goals; K&R have put away 66.

The top of the Best-ish Table:

Housewives Favourite *17221st, League Two
Route 57 *16061st, Championship
Smash & Grab *15851st, Premier League
Gloopy Yarbles *15742nd, League One
SB Town Baggers *15422nd, Championship
Wijnaldum Leviosa15244th, League One
Klopps and Robbers14984th, League Two
Bigger than Brolin *14785th, Premier League
Mighty fine feeling *14552nd, Premier League
Webuiltthis City *14291st, League One
stilluvQPR14265th, Championship
* Already guaranteed a Champions League Place

The final game of the season will be a 4pm kickoff (BST) this coming Sunday.
Hope you all enjoy the final round!
