Season 7 – The Run-in – 2 games to go

The results are in!

Even though we only had eight matches in this gameweek, there was still plenty of excitement on offer. The highlight of the week, and you’ll be hearing a lot about it for a long time to come, was undoubtably Alisson’s injury-time winner away at West Brom. In that instant he became the third player this season to hit 20+FPts in a single gameweek and he featured in two of our games this week.

Gameweek 36
Boss 26 – 19 Bigger Than Brolin
FC Santa Barbara 8 – 12 The Money Team
Vanishing Spray FC 24 – 22 Tralfamadore Zoo FC
Smash & Grab 40 – 24 AC Reykjavik CobbleHill
Mighty fine feeling 18 – 26 All Star Gunners

After thirty-six games, twenty-eight wins and thirty-four weeks at the top, Smash & Grab have been crowned Premier League Champions. It took Alisson being benched by AC Reykjavik to make it happen this week, but S&G have won the top prize in the BFFA, their fourth BFFA title. The last time Smash & Grab won the League (the Championship in 2017), they took the title with 27 wins, 1 draw – 82 League Points. This season they have already surpassed that with two games to go!

All Star Gunners took three points from Mighty fine feeling and with Bigger than Brolin losing to Boss, ASG are just one point (read – two points, given the FPts difference) from a Champions League place. Big Brol, who have been alternating wins and losses with FC Santa Barbara this season, may feel that one more win will be enough to secure fourth place, but as they are already guaranteed CL action next season the real benefactor to that would be stilluvQPR.

Vanishing Spray and Boss continue their battle for that final ticket into next season’s PL, both winning this week, and set up a massive game tomorrow. It will be their SEVENTH meeting this season; Boss have won three, Spray have won two and they drew a First Round game in the Cup earlier this year. Unfortunately, due to Spray and Boss both winning their last two league games, time has run out on Tralfamadore Zoo and they will have to play Championship fantasy football next season. Vanishing Spray handed them the drop order with Che Adams’ ninth goal of the season and three Everton appearances in the final match. Zoo will be rejoining Sporting Wicker Park in the Championship and will also be reunited with stilluvQPR, Web City and Gloopy Yarbles.

Gameweek 36
GoFYS FC 20 – 43 Route 57 FC
SB Town Baggers 34 – 30 AFC Chester
Hung Like a Bony 17 – 20 Banana Swans
East Loop United 32 – 17 Cornballers
stilluvQPR 24 – 21 Sporting Wicker Park

Route 57 completed a full set of four-wins-from-four over GoFYS this week and with that they have won the Championship. It was a comfortable win in the end, GoFYS hit hard by the reduction in fixtures, but Route 57 remain seven points clear at the top and bring another BFFA title to the fine city of Oxford. SB Town also won this week and now know for sure that they will be returning to the Premier League after a three-year absence.

After losing against the top two, GoFYS and AFC Chester are still locked in a tussle for the third promotion place. StilluvQPR beat the team below them and move to within two points of fourth place and also stand an outside chance of sneaking into third! They may have an opportunity to climb a place if they beat Banana Swans this week and then again in the final game next weekend against third-placed GoFYS. Stilluv are 2-2 against both opponents this season and having won 10 of the last 11, they are coming into the final weeks in great form.

East Loop United took a big step away from League One by beating the relegated Cornballers this week while Banana Swans beat Hung like a Bony to keep their hopes of escape alive. Swans will need to win both of their remaining games, and score very highly, and ELU would have to lose both of theirs. The good news for Swans is that the two teams above them have very difficult fixtures against the top four in their remaining games.

Gameweek 36
Gloopy Yarbles 27 – 27 The Globes FC
Wijnaldum Leviosa 45 – 20 BattleVAR Galáctico
Harambe Hotspur F.C. 32 – 16 RelicFC
Goleta Hotspur 27 – 28 Chicken and Bacon Sane
Webuiltthis City 29 – 32 Sugar Daddies

Did I mention that there was drama at the top of League One? The last League to declare a champion this season has three teams vying for the title and this week Gloopy Yarbles missed the chance to reclaim the top spot after failing to beat The Globes. In a definite diss to the Yarbles, Pep Guardiola left Laporte, Zinchenko and Foden out of the team and Gloopy relied the heroics of Palace pair Mitchell and Eze to salvage a draw from the week. The result moves the Yarbles to two points from the top (not that it makes a difference, with their vastly superior FPts total) and sets up a double shootout in the final two weeks.

Web City, who hadn’t lost two consecutive games before this month, have both of their rivals to face this week while Relic & Gloopy will be expected to win their other games against C&BS and Harambe. That said though, the pair that are straddling the relegation/safety line both won their games this week and are still fighting for safety from the drop. Chicken & Bacon Sane could tie up their place in League One with a win on Wednesday, but if they lose to newly-relegated Sugar Daddies then Harambe still have time to launch a comeback.

Gameweek 36

Klopps and Robbers 35 – 18 Jaysokker
The El Dude Brothers 18 – 10 Sorry not so sorry
Ole’s at the Wheel 36 – 35 Housewives Favourite

After no doubt celebrating hard on Thursday night, Champions Housewives Favourite missed out on completing that coveted nine-game win streak by just two points. Nine-man Ole’s at the Wheel took an important win that leaves them one point away from promotion but, with Klopps & Robbers taking a third win over Jaysokker, their promotion party will have to wait.

Of course, it should be noted that K&R and Bros could both still leap-frog OatWheel and steal their promotion away from them. The El Dude Brothers, whose win this week keeps them in third place, have only to play the bottom two once more to round out the season and are expected to win both. Similarly, K&R will meet the teams seventh and eighth and have won all eight of those meetings this season. Conversely, Ole’s at the Wheel have had mixed results against Jaysokker and Bielsaball; they are 2-2 against both this season and a loss to either, or both, could be disasterous.

Finally, Klopps and Robbers will be keeping an eye on other results around the Leagues. If Bigger than Brolin secure fourth place in the Premier League and stilluvQPR can steal fourth in the Championship and Wijnaldum Leviosa score poorly in League One, then K&R of League Two could salvage a Champions League place out of the season if they miss out on promotion on Sunday.

The 2021 Champions League Reserve Teams
We have eleven of the sixteen 2021 Champions League teams confirmed. There are still five places to be decided for:
– 4th place, Premier League
– 3rd & 4th place, Championship
– 2nd & 3rd place, League Two
And there may still be an overlap if Bigger than Brolin finish fourth in the Premier League. So…

The Super Cup was won by Bigger than Brolin. They have joined Tralfamadore Zoo as Cup Holders in next season’s Champions League. That result means that the first Reserve Team will be stilluvQPR. Should Big Brol finish in the Top 4 at the end of the season then stilluvQPR will take the Cup Holders space in the next season’s Champions League.

However, if stilluvQPR and Bigger than Brolin both finish in the Top 4 in their divisions, then that free space will go to the top Bestish team that hasn’t yet qualified. If the season were to end today and a space was available, Wijnaldum Leviosa would be that team. With two games to play, Klopps and Robbers could overtake them for that opening if they outscore WijLev by 10FPts or more. If after GW38 they are tied on fantasy points, as they were last week, the tiebreaker would be the total number of goals scored this season. At the end of Gameweek 36, that differential has become closer – Wijnaldum is currently winning that decider just 68 to 65!

The top of the Best-ish Table:

Housewives Favourite *16741st, League Two
Route 57 *15601st, Championship
Smash & Grab *15471st, Premier League
Gloopy Yarbles *15323rd, League One
SB Town Baggers *14972nd, Championship
Wijnaldum Leviosa14784th, League One
Klopps and Robbers14684th, League Two
Bigger than Brolin *14594th, Premier League
Mighty fine feeling *14112nd, Premier League
stilluvQPR13955th, Championship
* Already guaranteed a Champions League Place

Gameweek 37 kicks off tomorrow, Tuesday 18th May, and concludes the following day.
The final game will be played over the space of just two hours from 4pm BST this coming Sunday.

I hope you’re all prepared and I hope you have fun.
Have a great week!
