I’m not the first one to say that this season wasn’t the greatest, but that’s not to say that it wasn’t very enjoyable. It has been an action-packed and eventful season, even though we suffered website issues from the beginning, problems setting line-ups and no auto-subs.
After an unsatisfactory end to the previous season, and lots of residual uncertainty with this one, we all entered the new season with some trepidation. It has caused some anger, some frustration and some apathy, but it has still been a gripping and entertaining year. Through it all there have been some fantastic matches! I try and pick out some standout games here.

Round 1
Gameweek 1 – Top score of the week: Gloopy Yarbles (66 FPts)
Gloopy Yarbles kicked things off with a mighty 66 fantasy points in the opening weekend of the belated 2020/21 season. They beat Harambe Hotspur 66-32 and claimed the top spot after the first game. After losing twice to Harambe in the previous campaign (and being the top scorer in last season’s League Two) Gloopy topscored this week and began a run of five wins over Harambe.
Gameweek 2 – Top score of the week: Route 57 FC (83 FPts)
Route 57 FC took advantage of Kane’s four assists, added six more, plus four more goals and a penalty save from Martinez against Sheffield United to set an insurmountable 83 over Hung Like a Bony’s 39.
Gameweek 3 – Top score of the week: RelicFC (53 FPts)
Last Season’s Champions League finalists met again in Week 3 and played out a 33-all draw. Both The Money Team and Tralfamadore Zoo had ten men, scored two goals and two assists. Money picked up three yellow cards (Zoo got zero) but Bednarek earned a clean sheet and balanced the books.
Gameweek 4 – Top score of the week: FC Santa Barbara (60 FPts)
FC Santa Barbara and Tralfamadore Zoo were sitting atop the Premier League and the Championship respectively when the season was cancelled last March. In GW4 this season, the Zoo lost with the second-best score of all forty teams, going down 58-60 to FC Santa Barbara. Despite benefitting from Ollie Watkins’ hat-trick against the Reds, the Zoo narrowly missing out on a chance to go top due largely to Luke Shaw and Virgil van Dijk conceding thirteen goals between them.
Jack Grealish took the headlines with two goals and three assists in a shock 7-2 win over Liverpool, scoring 21 fantasy points. Unsurprisingly, all four sides that played him, AC Reykjavik, East Loop United, RelicFC and Cumberland FC, won their matches this week.
Gameweek 5 – Top score of the week: Gloopy Yarbles (59 FPts)
The Money Team drew their second game in three weeks. They will consider themselves lucky to take a point from this one as they were down to ten men and would have been outscored by Vanishing Spray had Richarlison not been sent off or if Mitrovic had not missed his penalty.
Jaysokker remained the only team with a 100% record from the opening five games, winning all of them by just six points or less, most recently winning 39-34 against The El Dude Brothers thanks to goals from Salah and Son.
Gameweek 6 – Top score of the week: The Money Team (51 FPts)
In this week, Wijnaldum Leviosa (who went on to be the highest-scoring team not to qualify for the Champions League) lost their match against Harambe Hotspur by a single point (39-38) whilst outscoring all the other eight teams in League One. Strangely, Leviosa moved up one place and Harambe stayed put in sixth.
Gameweek 7 – Top score of the week: Hung Like a Bony (67 FPts)
The most common fixture in the BFFA is Sporting Wicker Park against GoFYS FC. They met for the 28th time in GW7 and second-placed GoFYS added to the troubles of their perpetual rivals with a 42-34 victory that left SWP rooted to the foot of the table.
Housewives Favourite climbed up to first place with a massive 57-17 over Bielsaball. They wouldn’t then move from the number one spot for the rest of the season.
Gameweek 8 – Top score of the week: Route 57 FC (64 FPts)
In the first 100-point match in League One this season, RelicFC saw off Gloopy Yarbles 54-46. It was their seventh straight win and kept them top of the League.
Gameweek 9 – Top score of the week: Vanishing Spray FC & Gloopy Yarbles (51 FPts)
GW9 is always a good marker of how the season will go. There were a few close games in this round – Banana Swans lost to Hung Like a Bony 43-40, Wijnaldum lost by a pair to BattleVAR Galáctico, 42-40, Fossvogur FC lost by a unit to Atletico Topo Chico, 33-32, and in the Premier League Bigger than Brolin and Boss played out a second draw in as many seasons (the last one was a 38-all stalemate in the 2020 Champions League). Sugar Daddies also got an important 39-32 win over eventual Champions Webuiltthis City, which moved them up from ninth to sixth position.
Round 2
Gameweek 10 – Top score of the week: Fossvogur FC (60 FPts)
Third-placed Webuiltthis City put pay to Relic’s hopes of a ninth-straight win. Neal Maupay’s missed penalty against Liverpool decided the game in favour of the lower-placed side.
Second-placed Money Team beat Premier League leaders Smash & Grab 46-39 away and took revenge for their loss nine weeks ago.
Gameweek 11 – Top score of the week: Harambe Hotspur F.C. & Housewives Favourite (54 FPts)
Jaysokker and Sorry not so sorry, second and third in League Two, played out a 30-30 draw, and kept their positions as Cumberland lost to Klopps & Robbers.
Championship leaders Route 57 FC returned to winning ways with a one-point win over third-placed Hung Like a Bony.
Gameweek 12 – Top score of the week: All Star Gunners (48 FPts)
Three of the last-placed teams won in GW12 – AC Reykjavik beat Boss 27-25, Sporting Wicker Park beat second-placed SB Town Baggers 44-25 and The Globes saw off third-placed Goleta Hotspur 31-29.
Gameweek 13 – Top score of the week: Smash & Grab (51 FPts)
Winter Cup Semi Finals – Fossvogur FC reached the BFFA Cup Final with the lowest Semi-Final winning score in BFFA history. StilluvQPR and Hung Like a Bony went to a replay after a 31-31 draw. Son & Salah combined for again for stilluvQPR and Daniel Podence scored his third of the season for Hung.
Gameweek 14 – Top score of the week: Smash & Grab (68 FPts)
The Money Team collected their ninth-straight win and completed a full set. A 50-41 victory over Spray also meant that they were then twelve games unbeaten.
League Two leaders Housewives Favourite lost a one-pointer to fourth-place Cumberland FC, their fifth loss to the Cumberland in all five meetings.
Gameweek 15 – Top score of the week: Ole’s at the Wheel (48 FPts)
StilluvQPR won the Winter Cup with a 35-27 win over rookies Fossvogur FC. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored for both teams, because that sometimes happens in fantasy football, but Yerry Mina’s clean sheet against Sheffield United was the difference between the sides.
Gameweek 16 – Top score of the week: Route 57 FC (49 FPts)
Housewives Favourite lost despite being the second-best pointscorer in the League for the second time in three games. This week they were edged out 40-39 by ninth-placed Bielsaball.
Gameweek 17 – Top score of the week: Housewives Favourite (60 FPts)
Even with 10FPts for de Bruyne, nine from Holding and eight for Soucek, Mighty fine feeling lost 41-42 against Smash & Grab as third met top in the Premier League. The Money Team (second) also won and Mff dropped back to fifteen points behind first place. In League Two, Sorry not so sorry beat Atletico Topo Chico for a second time to move themselves back from third up to second.
Gameweek 18 – Top score of the week: Mighty fine feeling & Klopps and Robbers (39 FPts)
A reduced fixture list (just six games) caused problems for a lot of managers. Fourth-placed AFC Chester beat second-placed SB Town Baggers 31-28. Phil Foden scored the only goal of the game (both in this game and City’s 1-0 win over Brighton). Hung climbed three places to fifth with a win over Banana Swans.
Round 3
Gameweek 19 – Top score of the week: SB Town Baggers (107 FPts)
It was an extra games week just before the halfway point and two teams hit 100-point scores. Wijnaldum Leviosa won the highest-scoring game of the season, “away” against The Globes. The final score was Globes 79-102 Wijnaldum, 181 total points, just nine shy of the all-time record.
John Stones recorded the season’s best individual score in this week – 24 FPts – with two goals against Palace and two clean sheets for City. He appeared for both Wijnaldum Leviosa and also SB Town Baggers. The Baggers faced top-of-the-League Route 57 in GW19, seven points behind the leaders. Thanks to double-figure scores from Stones, Dias, Ederson and Antonio, they beat Route 57 FC 107-73 and began a run of eight straight wins that would take them to the top of the League.
Elsewhere, in another battle between first and second, Smash & Grab collected their 9th win-in-a-row, simultaneously ending The Money Team’s 16-game unbeaten streak. The week also gave us the season’s biggest win – in League Two, Klopps & Robbers beat Bielsaball 93-32, also with a large helping hand from the Man City trio of Stones, Dias and Ederson.
Gameweek 20 – Top score of the week: Housewives Favourite (64 FPts)
FC Santa Barbara upset the Premier League apple cart by beating the league leaders Smash & Grab 35-34 whilst the three teams below them all won and were able to claw back three points.
Gameweek 21 – Top score of the week: Route 57 FC (60 FPts)
BattleVAR Galáctico nearly caused an upset against top side RelicFC, but lost 30-31. Leo Trossard scored for BattleVAR with the only goal in a 1-0 win over Spurs in the final game of the week, but a Pulisic assist earlier in the day gave Relic enough for the win and kept them top.
It was also the Spring Cup First Round. Three teams Goleta Hotspur, Banana Swans and The Globes, all won by a single point and qualified for the Second Round. Vanishing Spray and Boss drew 33-33 and took the tie to a replay.
Gameweek 22 – Top score of the week: Vanishing Spray FC & Gloopy Yarbles (61 FPts)
Sporting Wicker Park lost 46-50 to the only other Championship team that scored more than them, AFC Chester. The same thing happened to Housewives Favourite, who were eight points clear at the top before kick-off. They lost a 100-point game, 48-53, to The El Dude Brothers. The win moved Bros up from fifth to third. Web City went top of the League with a 43-36 win over The Globes, SB Town Baggers went top of the Championship with a 51-30 win over Banana Swans, and Vanishing Spray won the First Round Replay 61-52.
Gameweek 23 – Top score of the week: Gloopy Yarbles (54 FPts)
Vanishing Spray, in ninth and six points from safety, decided that this weekend was going to be the start of their comeback. Everton drew 3-3 with second-placed Man United, but Spray beat second-placed The Money Team and began a six-game win streak that lifted them out of the relegation zone and saved their season.
Gameweek 24 – Top score of the week: Webuiltthis City (71 FPts)
At this point, the BFFA celebrated Game #5,000. Gloopy Yarbles vs. Goleta Hotspur was announced as the big game and it didn’t disappoint. Goleta Hotspur scored five goals, against the Yarbles’ three, while Gloopy picked up four defensive clean sheets, bettering Goleta’s two. In a high-scoring battle of attrition, Gloopy Yarbles narrowly won out with no bookings and an extra two men on the field. The Big Game finished 60-58; Gloopy remained in third, Goleta dropped a place to fifth.
Also, both Spring Cup Second Round replays ticked over into triple figures. The Premier League’s Smash & Grab beat League Two’s Ole’s at the Wheel 53-47 and League Two’s The El Dude Bros beat the Championship’s GoFYS FC 61-40.
Gameweek 25 – Top score of the week: Webuiltthis City (59 FPts)
There were two more 100-point matches in Gameweek 25. Both of them showcasing the top-two pointscoring teams in that league that week. Firstly, Web City topscored for the second week in a row and beat Wijnaldum Leviosa 59-46, and in the Premier League, seventh-placed Vanishing Spray beat top side Smash & Grab 56-53.
Gameweek 26 – Top score of the week: Bigger than Brolin (99 FPts)
In another double gameweek, Mighty fine feeling completed nine consecutive wins with a 64-42 win over the last team to achieve the same feat – league leaders Smash & Grab. Mff had twenty players appearing in that match while S&G had nineteen, but surprisingly there were no goals for either team.
A yellow card for Gareth Bale prevented Bigger than Brolin from hitting triple figures, but his 18FPts did help them to a storming 99-61 victory over The Money Team in the battle for third.
Gameweek 27 – Top score of the week: Hung Like a Bony (62 FPts)
Ole’s at the Wheel climbed back up into third with a 49-43 point win over Housewives Favourite. The El Dude Brothers also climbed up a place at the expense of Jaysokker.
In the Spring Cup Quarter-Finals, Vanishing Spray knocked out Championship leaders Route 57 FC, 54-46, and Bigger than Brolin knocked out League One leaders Webuitthis City with a 51-41 victory.
Round 4
Gameweek 28 – Top score of the week: SB Town Baggers (60 FPts)
Former Premier League Champions SB Town Baggers gave Route 57 FC a 60-31 spanking and regained the top spot in the Championship.
In the Premier League, Boss beat Vanishing Spray FC 36-32 in their penultimate meeting and give their survival hopes a huge lift.
Gameweek 29 – Top score of the week: Housewives Favourite (41 FPts)
East Loop United beat SB Town Baggers for the only time this season and it cost the Baggers their top spot. Route 57 stepped up again with a 33-25 win over Hung LaB.
Gameweek 30 – Top score of the week: Wijnaldum Leviosa (56 FPts)
In the Winter Cup Semi-Finals, three teams scored 33FPts. Only Bigger than Brolin scored more and booked themselves a place in the Final with a 36-33 win over league rivals Smash & Grab.
Mighty fine feeling took a third win from Vanishing Spray in GW30 and, with Smash losing to Big Brol in a League-and-Cup double-header, Mff pulled level on League points with S&G and declared themselves a challenger for the title.
Gameweek 31 – Top score of the week: Gloopy Yarbles (56 FPts)
Mighty fine feeling then got a third win of the season over Bigger than Brolin and maxed out their win streak at fourteen.
The BFFA Cup Semi-Final replay provided another 100-pt thriller. Gloopy Yarbles book their place in the Final with a 56-45 win over Vanishing Spray FC. Spray did however beat AC Reykjavik 45-24 in the League and, having gone 18 games without a win, AC Rey became the first team this season to be relegated.
From League One, a grand score of 56 meant that Gloopy Yarbles were the top-scoring team-of-the-week for a season-best sixth time.
Gameweek 32 – Top score of the week: Housewives Favourite (59 FPts)
Freshly-relegated AC Reykjavik CobbleHill end Mighty fine feeling’s winning run with a narrow 28-27 win. That 14-game streak was the best of any team this season.
Web City were promoted thanks to a win over Chicken and Bacon Sane, and a win for Gloopy Yables over fourth-placed Wijnaldum Leviosa.
Cornballers were relegated after losing a third game to stilluvQPR.
Gameweek 33 – Top score of the week: SB Town Baggers (47 FPts)
All Star Gunners completed a whitewash, W4L0, against Tralfamadore Zoo, the team they also beat in the 2018 Champions League Final. Vanishing Spray got the second-best score of the Premier League with a total of 39, only to be beaten by FC Santa Barbara who scored 40.
Route 57 were promoted after a low-scoring 18-13 win, with their lowest score of the season, and won a fourth League game against Cornballers FC, the team that had knocked them out of the Winter Cup back in GW7.
RelicFC were also promoted despite a first-ever loss to the Sugar Daddies. With Wijnaldum failing to beat Harambe again, time ran out on the fourth-placed side and Relic were then guaranteed a top-three place.
Gameweek 34 – Top score of the week: Bigger than Brolin (59 FPts)
When stilluvQPR beat second-placed SB Town Baggers 40-26, they became the only team outside the Premier League to win consecutive games against all nine of their league opposition.
In the hunt for a League Two promotion spot, Klopps & Robbers beat The El Dude Brothers 37-26 and the two teams swapped places; K&R rose to third, Bros slipped to fourth.
Housewives Favourites clinched promotion to League One with a 47-30 win against Bielsaball.
Hung Like a Bony were two points above the relegation zone when they faced eighth-placed East Loop United again. The game ended 30-30 and made escape from the relegation zone a bit more difficult for ELU.
The Spring Cup Final also took place here, a week later than planned, between Big Brol and Gloopy. A Kai Havertz brace wasn’t good enough for the League One challengers; another outstanding performance by Gareth Bale handed Big Brol the Cup for the second time and gave them the chance to play for the Super Cup the following week too.
Gameweek 35 – Top score of the week: Sporting Wicker Park (85 FPts)
Gloopy Yarbles were promoted to the Championship thanks to a huge 75-41 win against second-placed RelicFC.
Housewives Favourite won an eighth straight game and were officially announced as League Two Champions. It was the highest-scoring game in the final third of the season across all four Leagues, 75-66, and dropped K&R out of the top three, despite them getting the second-best score in League Two that week.
The previous week’s topscorers – Bigger than Brolin – lost a 56-57 barnburner to third-placed The Money Team. The result meant that Big Brol could no longer reach third place and Money were guaranteed a payout. Big Brol, however, did have success in the Super Cup match against the Winter Cup winners, stilluvQPR. The Championship side, who had KO’ed Big Brol on their way to that title, couldn’t repeat that success and lost the game 46-56. With that, Bigger than Brolin earned a place in the Champions League next season and an extra little prize for being so clever.
Gameweek 36 – Top score of the week: Wijnaldum Leviosa (45 FPts)
Smash & Grab and Route 57 both won their games this week and were both declared League Champions.
Sugar Daddies dealt Webuiltthis City a horrific blow when Alisson went up for a corner in the dying moments of the penultimate GW36 game and scored with his head. Alisson made 22 FPts and Sugar Daddies won 32-29, crippling Web City’s title chances. However, their title rivals RelicFC also lost and Gloopy Yarbles got stuck in a 27-all draw with The Globes FC.
Housewives favourite reached 1674 Fantasy Points and, as it turned out, became uncatchable in the race to be named the Best-ish Team of the Season.
Ole’s at the Wheel & The El Dude Brothers were also promoted this week. The El Dude Bros beat SNSS 18-10 while OatWheel handed Housewives Favourite a third one-point loss of the season. No other team had that many single-pointlosses this season.
Of course, at this point of the season there are always more relegations announced. Champions League holders Tralfamadore Zoo were sent back to the Championship and Sugar Daddies & The Globes FC also dropped down to League Two.
Gameweek 37 – Top score of the week: BattleVAR Galáctico & Housewives Favourite (48 FPts)
A tricky part of the season, with teams rotating players and giving young talent a tryout. Webuiltthis City beat RelicFC for a fifth time this season, effectively guaranteeing themselves a top two finish. Housewives Favourite racked up a weekly top score for the sixth time, Tralfamadore Zoo won their fifth game against AC Reykjavik CobbleHill this season, and three more teams were given their relegation orders. Boss, Swans and Harambe all lost this week, which left them all too far from seventh place to come back, unless there was a Financial Fair Play violation and a severe points penalty given to a team above them. Unfortunately for Boss, the six-pointer game against the team above them didn’t go their way and Vanishing Spray ensured they’d remain a Premier League side for another season.
Gameweek 38 – Top score of the week: Webuiltthis City (71 FPts)
Hung Like a Bony were relegated on the last day of the season after failing to beat an already-promoted Route 57 side that were merely showing off at this point. Goals from Kane, Phillips and Rodrigo denied Hung LaB the opportunity for salvation, even after ELU faultered against SB Town in their 28th meeting. Hung and R57 have shared a league for the last four seasons, but last week they departed the Championship via different doors.
Replacing Hung LaB in the second tier – Gloopy Yarbles, who were fifteen points behind Webuiltthis City when they last met, faced the league leaders with an opportunity to steal the title from them on the final day. Unfortunately for the fans of the underdog tale, the game was won by the Oxfordshire side with the biggest score of the gameweek and Webuiltthis City became the League One Champions for the second time.
