Season 6 – Gameweek 23

The results are in!

Premier League

Smash & Grab and FC Santa Barbara both won their games this week to stay top of the pops, the latter’s one-point win over ASG was their third consecutive victory over the Gunners and gave them some breathing room over third place and the chasing pack. The bottom four all lost meaning that although ASG didn’t drop into the relegation zone, they are starting to drift from the rest.
Next week offers us a top -v- bottom clash between Smash and AC Reykjavik, and The Money Team face Bigger than Brolin who are just one point behind them and gunning for third place.

Championship

Last week saw Branwellington go up against Tralfamadore Zoo for the third time as last v first, David against Goliath. The last two meetings saw the underdogs getting the better of the League One champions, but this week they couldn’t muster up much of a fight. The Zoo won and maintain a six-point gap between themselves and second place.
AFC Chester and SB Town go 3-0 against their GW23 opponents. Chester were knocked out of the BFFA Cup twice in consecutive seasons by ELU, but have won all three games against their rivals this season. That defeat dropped United down from third to fifth as GoFYS and Voyageurs both won in low-scoring matches.
SB Town’s bid to escape the relegation zone was enhanced not just by a good score, but also by a low score and a loss for Banana Swans. The Swans’ score of 19 leaves them just three points ahead of SBT and exactly level on matchpoints. The Swans will play 9th-placed Chucky Pad Warriors next while SBT face third-placed Voyageurs.
Also next week, Tralfamadore Zoo and Sporting Wiker Park meet again in a repeat of their Champions League Semi Final. For those who don’t remember, the first leg was drawn then the Zoo won the return 40-34. The following week, Wicker Park beat them in the League. Can they do it again? They need at least three wins to pull level with the team above them, ELU, who they will be playing in GW25.

League One

Cornballers slipped up this week against bottom side Web City and KH Granitza Sting took the win against third-placed Hung LaB to go top. StilluvQPR and Bacuna Matata both drew their games and remain where they are, but one point closer to the promotion places. Goleta’s 29-23 win over Relic moves them out of the relegation zone, but Route 57 and Cabezazo both earned a point each and remain in the fight to survive.

League Two

The top four all lost this week. Harambe moved into first place by the grace of now having slightly more matchpoints. Obi-Wan and The Globes also slipped down one place after losing and giving up third place to a Gloopy Yarbles side that deserved the rise after beating the new League leaders.
BattleVAR beat Obi-Wan for the third time this season and put another three points between themselves and tenth. Unfortunately, with Sugar Daddies beating the then League leaders and Wijnaldum doubling CaBS’ score, the Galácticos remain two points short of seventh.

National League

It would seem like Housewives’ Favourite have established a ‘bogey team’ this week after losing a third straight game to Cumberland FC. However, despite gifting another three points to the northerners, Housewives’ stay top and keep their seven-point cushion over Diego Stamos 7. DS7 had won their two previous games against OatWheel, but this time the team in third won the six-pointer and are now just two points off second place. Cumberland’s win over the League leaders and Katner’s win over a Gooners side that were level on points with them brings both teams to within a win of going second too.
