Season 6 – Gameweek 22

The results are in!

In the gameweek that also saw the return of the BFFA Cup there were some really high scores (and some really low ones) around the Leagues. Man City put six past Villa, five teams kept clean sheets and we had a red card too. In the BFFA there were a couple of games pitting first place against second, two teams enjoyed single matchpoint wins, one team won with just nineteen points and lots of interesting matchups have been set up for GW23.

Premier League

Two very narrow victories grabbed the headlines this week. All Star Gunners ended their losing streak with an important win over Mighty fine feeling that keeps them two points above the relegation zone.
The Money Team kept AC/RC from their third consecutive win by seeing out a 1-point win and in doing so they keep the pressure on the three teams above them.
Third-placed Boss beat second-placed FC Santa Barbara, simultaneously closing the gap from six to three points and denying FCSB a return to the top of the table. That was a chance made possible by relegation-battling Bigo1 who got their first win over Smash & Grab this season. Finally, Bigger than Brolin moved up a place into fifth leaving Vanishing Spray now five points from safety.

Championship

In the Championship the top two clashed for the fifth time this season and Tralfamadore made it three-from-three in the League over their closest rivals AFC Chester. The silver lining for AFC Chester last weekend was that GoFYS FC lost to a Chucky Pad Warriors side that desperately needed three points. CPW got those points and closed the gap to safety to six thanks to East Loop United who helped themselves to the opportunity to steal third place. Voyageurs were also gifted the opportunity to climb above GoFYS and grabbed it. Well, maybe not so much ‘grabbed it’ as fell into it by accident.

League One

There’s a new leader at the top of League One. Goals from Hudson-Odoi, Ayew and Firmino gave Cornballers a comfortable win over promotion rivals Hung Like a Bony and rocketed them up to first place. With KH slipping up against Bacuna Matata, stilluvQPR also enjoyed a successful week by winning against RelicFC and edged two points closer to the promotion places.
Elsewhere, nine-man Route 57 moved up from eighth to sixth thanks to goals from Greenwood and Deeney. Three clean sheets and an assist from Azpilicueta ensured that R57 would rise up and climb over Goleta, dropping them into the relegation zone. R57 are now staring up at the great divide between fifth and sixth, but beating Bacuna Matata next weekend will make a big dent in that gap and offer up some hope to those below too.

League Two

Tiger Tail’s hunt for a title was stalled by the ambitions of Obi-Wan Bissaka who beat them for the first time this season in a bid for promotion, maybe even the top spot. Who knows, 12-point deficits have been overcome many times before in the BFFA. Harambe did the business over BattleVAR for the third time this season and the Galacticos will have to continue their fight to escape relegation against an Obi-Wan side that hasn’t lost in five weeks.

National League

Another tussle at the top ends with the team at the top triumphant. The four-point cushion becomes seven and a seven-point cushion is a very large and comfortable cushion. Or maybe the Housewives’ Favorite would prefer a chaise longue. Sexy.
Ole’s at the Wheel made a big jump forward, from sixth to third, thanks to a third successive win over Chi Spurs and set up a six-pointer against Diego Stamos 7 next weekend. Below OatWheel are three teams all exactly one point behind and hungry for a prize place. Fourth-placed Cumberland FC play top-of-the-League Housewives’ Favourites while Katner and Chitown Gooners play each other; the winner hoping to become leader of the peloton.
