Season 11 – Gameweek 6

The results are in!

BIG scores in a low-scoring week,
naturally there’s going to be some big winners…

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Only one team remains unbeaten in the BFFA after six games – the Gloopy Yarbles do it again with a 22-point win over Spray.
Eight teams just three points apart, and Wives Fave lead the peloton (and the pointscoring), despite getting their lowest score since that four-game week of March last season.
• An agonising loss for HLAB as the 11 minutes of Nkunku prevented Trossard from bringing his 12 FPts off the bench. HLAB lost by 1; El Dude Bros move off the bottom of the table

🫣 Next Week’s One to Watch:
Housewives Favourite -v- Gloopy Yarbles
2nd v 1st
Top of the ladder clash? Always tasty! Unfortunately, those positions won’t be on the line before the international break, but this is still a very important six-pointer, and it’s a fixture that has only gone in Gloopy’s favour 3 out of the 11 times that they’ve faced the current Champions.

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Somehow… ATC get a third draw in five games (and by the same score as GW2). It’s almost looking like a real football league table!
Whiskey & BtB both move up three places with big wins.
• The two Chris’ still occupy the top spots. Preliminary Version picked up Gabriel Martinelli on waivers just two days before his goal+assist+3BP combo; DBT have been extremely savvy by benching Trossard before his red card v City, then starting him on his return a week later as his brought home a dozen.

🫣 Next Week’s One to Watch:
Whiskey De Bruyne -v- All Star Gunners
4th v 3rd
The Chris Derby isn’t set to kickoff until GW9, so keeping up with the top two will be of top importance for the teams immediately below them. Such is the dilemma for WDB and ASG; neither can go to the top this week, and only one side can get the three points they need to keep the pressure on. In fear of falling further behind, both managers are likely to have shaky trigger fingers during the trade phase of the gameweek. Keep an eye out for Wesley Fofana, who played for ASG at the start of the season, now at WDB. And he might be playing directly against his (eventual) replacement Nikola Milenković (ASG) at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Peltier. GW5: topscorers, GW6: topscorers. 😲
Alleviate the Tedium, who lost their first match to ELU, have now won five-in-a-row and claim the #1 spot for the first time since their first-ever game, GW1 last season.
• Only two teams in the BFFA have scored 50+ four times this season – Preliminary Version and SkyPlayer. Unfortunately, Van de Ven was the least-favoured defender in their line-up, and his 11 matchpoints would’ve given them the win. Highest-scoring game of the weekend though, exciting stuff.

🫣 Next Week’s One to Watch:
Goleta Hotspur -v- SkyPlayerInFPL
7th v 3rd
Not only are we looking at two very in-form teams (having both hit 50 points this weekend) but next week this will be this season’s first (and possibly only) League-and-CL Double-Header. Of course, they played each other in the Champions League this week too (Goleta won 55-50) and next week will be a rematch of the two teams now 1st & 2nd in Group A. Can Cole Palmer (Goleta) repeat that pony against Forest, and will Welbeck (SkyPlayer) step up again in João Pedro’s absence (Goleta)?

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Füllkrug’s absence allowed Guéhi to come off the bench for Sporting KhilMann this weekend. Marc brought home 9, SKM won by 1. Valley Village, who were on the receiving end of that final-whistle comeback, were the only team in the BFFA to play v.d.Ven (11) this weekend.
• Shams Army had their 100% record broken by Tino’s Legacy, but maintain first place thanks in no small part to Brennan Johnson’s six attributes away at Old Trafford.
• Jaysokker bounce back after their defeat to the Army and move up to 2nd with a fifth win of the season. Cole Palmer accounted for nearly half of their total.

🫣 Next Week’s One to Watch:
BattleVAR Galactico -v- Shams Army
7th v 1st
With the mighty Shams Army finally defeated, now might be a good time to play them. And who better to watch than a team with a very similar scoring record this season. In GW1, BVAR outscored the Army by one point, in GW2 Sham outscored BVAR by two. They were alternating who outperforms who for the last few weeks until last weekend when they both scored 33. This all sounds to me like this will be a very even contest. Don’t let the league table fool you, oh no. Just sixteen matchpoints difference, yet Shams Army are three wins better off? Pah! This game could shake the whole table up! Watch out for Aina & Milenković (BVAR) potentially facing Sanchez & Sancho + Colwill & Cucurella (SA) on Sunday.

Round 1: Matchday 4 of 6

The Belyea Memorial Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup!
“Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms”
Everyone is a winner (except one).

In rememberance of a former BFFA manager, fantasy football hero, Liverpool fan, father and friend to many. We are grateful that he was a part of our league and touched so many lives.

The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

This week:
As if to mock all of us still onboard the Belyea bus, last week’s escapees – Peltier – topscored again and waved it at the rest of us from the outside as we continue down that road. Definitely making it look easy!

So it came down the other 33, from within which we find that Goleta Hotspur and Smash & Grab both finished GW6 with a score of 55. Double delight!

The Big One

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150 million.
These teams must have no more than three players from the same PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

Last season The Big One was won by Prestige Worldwide, a subsidiary of The Premier League’s El Dude Bros, and The One Cup was won by Alleviate the Tedium.

This week’s top scorers:
1) Sporting Wicker Park
91 Fantasy Points👏👏👏
2) Jaysokker
69 FPts
3) Gloopy Yarbles
68 FPts
4) Goleta Hotspur
62 FPts
5) All Star Gunners
60 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week:

Diogo Teixeira da Silva has had quite a phenomenal week in Fantasy. In a low-scoring week (average: 50 FPts), he managed to grab 102 from the Premier League’s finest (plus 3x one-pointers at the back). Teammate Mo Salah (C, 2×10), Martinelli (13), Watkins (11) and the illustrious Cole Palmer (25) did most of the heavy lifting and took Jota‘s fantasy team to the top of the Liverpool Players’ League.

Luna eSports is apparently where you’ll find Jota’s mind in the hours before the first kickoff (*pure speculation on my part) and that might have been why he took himself out of his own team this week, which is a shame because with 2 assists (against just 0.15xA) and a bonus point, I think he would have liked to have been in amongst his triple-digit-scoring team.

Nevertheless, gold standard managerial skills there from Merseyside this week. He would be a long way clear at the top of The Big One tonight if he had signed up to the BFFA…
Maybe next season, Diogo?
