Gameweek 1

Teams of the Week:
HLAB & The Phenoms
65 points

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
HLAB with the joint-best score of the week saw the game home against the second-highest losing score. A thrilling 111-pt game went to the League One Champions
• Last season’s third-place finishers start this campaign a step up in second with a big win over El Dude Bros.
Route 57 FC played and won their 300th game in the BFFA and begin the season in third.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Route 57 FC -v- Housewives Favourite – 3rd v 6th
Last season: 37-31; 28-37; 42-76; 54-35
Last season’s Champions and runners-up meet again next weekend. Route 57 are already off the mark, Wives’ Fave were the best of the rest. Obviously, it’s far too early to talk about title-winners, but given that both had above-average scores in Week One, we think that this matchup could be crucial once again in deciding the shape of the top of the Premier League.

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
De Bruyne Trousers get off to the best start with the red shirts of Mo Salah, Chris Wood and TAA getting the big points against rivals Uncle Monty.
All Star Gunners moved up close behind DBT with five (count them) Spurs players hauling in the win thanks to Pedro Porro’s goal assisted by Maddison.
Bigger than Brolin, now unbeaten in their last 6 league games, take third place with a bullseye.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Bigger than Brolin -v- All Star Gunners – 2nd v 3rd
Last season: 45-33; 28-32; 21-33; 35-35
Two early performers will be flexing next weekend and the winner will keep their 100% record. Last season this pair finished third and fourth, but are meeting in Week Two as second and third. Two very well-drafted teams will be able to showcase Player-of-the-Week Kai Havertz (48 BPS) and Ollie Watkins going head-to-head, both on behalf of Bigger than Brolin, against Danny Welbeck (12FPts) and Pedro Porro (9). Big potential on both rosters.

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Two matches passed the 100pt “thriller” marker this week. SkyPlayer saw off a strong attack from AFC Chester while topscoring The Phenoms top the table with a much more comfortable 28-pt thrashing of the League Two champions Goleta Hotspur.
• After being completely slayed by the BFFA Cup winners last time they met, Peltier opened their season with a nice symmetrical 42-24 win over StillluvQPR and take third place off the line.
SkyPlayer retain the longest winning streak in the BFFA, now 8-in-a-row, continuing on from their incredible the end-of-season promotion push.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Alleviate the Tedium -v- The Phenoms – 8th v 1st
Last season: 24-43; 32-46; 43-49; 23-15
These two took League Two to a real cliffhanger last season. In a three-way battle (with SkyPlayer) for automatic promotion, both won on the final day and were separated only by total fantasy points. Alleviate took third and the prize money, but both qualified for this season’s Champions League (AtT via 3rd place and Phenoms via the Qualification Round).

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Boudi’s Crew manage something that they couldn’t do all last season – finish the gameweek top of the league! The only team in the league to score a half-century.
BattleVAR Galactico and Sham’s Army complete the Week One Top Three with large wins.
Sporting KhilMaan (ace name!👍) were the top-scoring newcomers, but unfortunately came up against an unusually good Boudi’s Crew this week. AI-Jiggery-Pokery were the only new recruits to notch up a win this week. We’ll see how the rookies do in Gameweek Two when all five face a different returning squad.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Boudi’s Crew -v- Tino’s Legacy – 1st v 10th
So all five returning League Two-ers face a rookie side next weekend. This one looks like it could be the one to watch. Draft picks #1 & #2 – Haaland and Salah – will face each other on the fantasy football field, plus Mateta & Eze against Havertz & Jackson. Also, keep an eye on Salah (Boudi) going directly against Flekken (Tino), and Mateta (Tino) trying to outscore Kudus (Boudi).

We would like to formerly announce the birth of a new league.

Ladies and gentlemen, just a few days ago the BFFA bore a new child – The BFFA Dynasty.
Unlike the main BFFA game that re-drafts every summer, this independent league will allow teams to keep their players into the following season and is deep-stacked so managers can nurture and develop young talent over many years.

The ten teams that have been created are here indefinitely. From this season on, you will be able to follow the fortunes of this Super League brave new venture as it roots itself into BFFA folklore and further enriches our fantasy football world.

Here for all to behold is the first picture of baby Dynasty.
Pick a team to support, choose your colours, get behind the lads and never underestimate the ability of Arsenal to bottle it! So please watch and admire as she grows into a fully-fledged fantasy Empress that may one day outlive us all…

The Belyea Memorial Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup!
“Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms”
Everyone is a winner (except one).

In rememberance of a former BFFA manager, fantasy football hero, Liverpool fan, father and friend to many. We are grateful that he was a part of our league and touched so many lives.

The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

This week:
In Week One, the topscoring team is automatically the first team to escape. Therefore, as HLAB AND The Phenoms have both seen off the other 38 teams, they clear the field. We won’t be seeing them here again this season. So long, farewell, and good luck in your other endeavours.

The Big One

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150 million.
These teams must have no more than three players from the same PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

Last season The Big One was won by Prestige Worldwide, a subsiduary of The Premier League’s El Dude Bros.

This week’s top scorers:
1) Route 57 FC – 82 Fantasy Points
2) Sporting Wicker Park – 76 Fantasy Points
3) Peltier – 73 FPts
4) Smoky Bacon Athletic – 72 FPts
5) Gnonto Seed – 70 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week, we return to St. James Park and a favourite from last year – Mr. Sean Longstaff. Sean’s XI will be competing in the Magpie’s FPL League once again with more familiar names, and we’re hoping he will do better than the 5,912,676th place he finished on last season. I doubt he’ll be picking Fabian Schär for a least a few more weeks 😬
