The Belyea Cup
Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms,
where everyone is a winner, except one.
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent.
You get upto 38 chances to remove yourself from consideration.
The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!
Two teams made it out of the quagmire this week – Don’t Tripp on Silva and StillluvQPR jointly topped the scoring with 53 FPts. Double the joy.
In Week Six: 34 teams – Barons, Boss, El Dude Bros, Farkelife, Gloopy Yarbles, Housewives Favourite, Mighty fine feeling, Route 57 FC, Smash & Grab, Sporting Wicker Park, AFC Chester, Allison Wonderland, Atletico Topo Chico, Fergi Time, GoFYS FC, Hung Like a Bony, Vanishing Spray FC, Webuiltthis City, BattleVAR Galactico, CG XI, Chicken and Bane San, East Loop United, FC Santa Barbara, Peltier, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Alleviate the Tedium, Boudi’s Crew, Goleta Hotspur, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA, The Phenoms.
The Big One
It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. This team must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one). This is a classic-style fantasy league open to all BFFA managers past and present.
Making the headlines again this week are 🎵 Ampadu-du-du 🎵. A huge 335 after five puts them inside the top 10k this week and 23 points clear in The Big One.
On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game. This week we are substituting one ‘keeper for another, and this week’s Big One celebrity is himself the son of a ‘keeper man, the former Oxford United shotstopper Andy Woodman…
The Championship’s league leaders – Preston North End – are still holding on to their undefeated streak and Freddie Woodman is helping to keep it that way, potentially putting his name into the FPL player pool for next season… Obviously we won’t find out if he makes it for a good few months yet, but in the meanwhile here is the Championship’s current number one #1 – ladies and gentlemen, please welcome FC Tutto Passa into the big league! 👏👏👏
Next week, we will introduce a midfielder who played with Freddie last time he kept goal in the Premier League. He is a player that entered the Premier League with his parent club Newcastle, after loan spells with Kilmarnock and Blackpool. He has scored four PL goals and provided nine PL assists (including one this season). He also has two FA Cup goals (both of which were opening goals in FA Cup Replays, away from home, in games that Toon won in Extra Time, most recently in front of yours truly at the Kassam).
