Premier League

Qualified for 2024 CL: Housewives Favourite, Sporting Wicker Park

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Due to Thiago Silva’s absence (and/or Kulusevski’s 90 minutes), Smash & Grab failed to collect a fourth win over relegated Barons and gave the title advantage to Housewives Favourite.
Wives Fave missed the opportunity to win the Premier League title here this week. The title race goes to the final game.
Route 57 move back up to third and are back with reach of second place.
• Chalobah’s man-of-the-match performance contributed to Gloopy taking three points from Farkelife, moving the Yarbles back into firing range of the prize money.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Smash & Grab -v- Sporting Wicker Park – 2nd -v- 7th
GW 9: 46 – 39 // GW 18: 27 – 22 // GW 24: 37 – 70 (Cup) // GW 27: 89 – 68
It’s been a dramatic season for this pair – waging war in the Premier League, the BFFA Cup and a heated contest for the #1 spot the World Rankings. Smash have dominated the league engagements, winning the last seven, but SWP took the Second Round match in the Cup in February and of course went all the way in the CL.
This is possibly the most impactful game of the twenty kicking off tonight. Wicker Park want the win their 450th match in the BFFA to avoid being overtaken by MFF and falling into danger of relegation. At the other end of the table, this result could mean the difference between S&G winning the Premier League and finishing fourth.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️

Barons -v- Farkelife
Boss -v- Housewives Favourite
El Dude Bros -v- Route 57 FC
Gloopy Yarbles -v- Mighty fine feeling
Smash & Grab -v- Sporting Wicker Park

For the Title:
Housewives Favourite win or draw: Housewives win the League
Smash & Grab fail to win: Housewives win the League.
Housewives Favourite lose and Smash & Grab win: S&G win the League.

For Second:
S&G overtake Wives Fave: Wives Fave runners-up
Wives win league and Smash get a better/equal result to R57 & Gloopy: Smash hold second.
Smash lose: Route 57 take second with a win
Smash and R57 both lose: Gloopy steal second with a win

El Dude Bros:
Climb to third if they win and R57 & Gloopy both lose
Get fourth (CLQ) if they win and one of R57/Gloopy lose
All else – remain in fifth and join the IMLQ

Relegation Play-Off:
MFF escape if they win and SWP draw/lose
Otherwise MFF in Premier League Play-Off, likely against Cullen the herd.

Championship

Promoted: Hung Like a Bony, Vanishing Spray

Qualified for 2024 CL: Hung Like a Bony, Vanishing Spray

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• A rare poor score from the Bestish #1’s opens the door to SkyPlayer (-54FPts) and Spray for the Championship.
All Star‘s victory over Hung keeps them in contention for the playoffs.
Cullen‘s huge score keeps their grasp firmly on third, but Spray‘s win means that a playoff is the best they can hope for now.

🫣 The Ones to Watch:
Fergi Time -v- Hung Like a Bony // A.F.C. Chester -v- Vanishing Spray FC
It would be unfair to pick one over the other. Spray are slight underdogs for the title given that it may go down to total Fantasy Points, but with Spray’s dominance over Chester this season, the pressure will be firmly on Hung LaB to retain their position.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️

A.F.C. Chester -v- Vanishing Spray FC
Atletico Topo Chico -v- Webuiltthis City
All Star Gunners -v- GoFYS FC
Cullen the herd -v- Allison Wonderland
Fergi Time -v- Hung Like a Bony

It’s a straight shootout for the title. Hung (vs Fergi Time) take the title if they match or better Spray (vs AFC Chester). If Hung draw/lose, Spray could reclaim top spot at the most crucial moment.

Cullen will take third unless they lose their 400th game in the BFFA (vs Alisson) and ASG beat GoFYS FC and ASG outscore them by 69. Unlikely, but not impossible.

With the bottom six set, Fergi Time and GoFYS are just playing for IMLQ position. Fifth place plays the poorer-scoring ATC in GW37; sixth place play Web City.

League One

Promoted: De Bruyne Trousers, Uncle Monty

Qualified for 2024 CL: De Bruyne Trousers, Uncle Monty,
Whiskey De Bruyne, StillluvQPR

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• The top four all win, meaning that De Bruyne Trousers and Uncle Monty get their second successive promotion together.
Uncle Monty got an incredible 29 points last night in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Spurs (not that Monty needed it).
• BattleVAR became the unfortunate sixth team to find out that they’ll be dropping a league next season. Stillluv’s incredible form continues and opened up a 4-point gap going into the final week of the league.
• With their win and Peltier’s loss, CG XI clinch the Champions League Qualifier place.

🫣 The One to Watch:
East Loop United -v- Peltier 7th -v- 5th
GW 9: 50 – 53 // GW 18: 28 – 61 // GW 27: 43 – 41
While there is indeed a title to be decided, the four-way battle for League One survival is gripping. The winner of this game will go safely into the Intramural Qualifiers, the loser becomes vulnerable to a postseason drop!

😬 The Run-In ⏱️

BattleVAR Galactico -v- CG XI
Chicken and Bane San -v- Uncle Monty
East Loop United -v- Peltier
FC Santa Barbara -v- StillluvQPR
Whiskey De Bruyne -v- De Bruyne Trousers

Top of the bill – the De Bruyne derby either zip it up for the Trousers or open the gap for Uncle Monty to slide in (sorry!). But Monty would need to win and DBT lose to make that happen. If the derby ends in a draw, it could go close on Fantasy Points.

One of four possible teams will engaging in the L1/L2 Playoff, for the wrong reason. That is to say, someone’s gonna finish 8th and we don’t know which one yet. Stillluv look good on form, but they need to perform well one last time. One of the others will slip up.
Chicken and Bane San are well-placed with two below them. They can lose and survive as long as East Loop United or Stillluv also lose. The other two – Peltier and ELU – are playing each other; if Stillluv beat #40 side FCSB then it’s a very real possibility that the loser will find themselves standing on that trapdoor come Tuesday.

League Two

League Champions: Goleta Hotspur

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Goleta’s winning run is broken almost single-handedly by Đorđe Petrović and it keeps Alleviate the Tedium right in the middle of the promotion chase.
SkyPlayerInFPL came from three points down to win by 19 and retain second. Up to six wins in a row.
Don’t Tripp on Silva and Sham’s army both win, meaning that that last place in the IMLQ’s will be decided next week.

🫣 The One to Watch:
SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA -v- Goleta Hotspur – 2nd -v- 1st
GW 9: 44 – 44 // GW 18: 23 – 38 // GW 27: 40 – 78
“Never have I ever…” is a phrase that will haunt SkyPlayer should they fail to beat the League Champions again this weekend. However, given that they’ve topscored in League Two for the last three weeks straight (including the overall best score of the season!) they can be confident in their pointscoring potential. It’s up to Goleta then to decide whether to set their lineup for a 22nd league win, or build a squad focused on the more-important bigger-than-last-year Champions tournament.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️

Alleviate the Tedium -v- Boudi’s Crew
Don’t Tripp on Silva -v- Jaysokker
Harambe Hotspur -v- Ole’s at the wheel
SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA -v- Goleta Hotspur
The Phenoms -v- Shams army

One more automatic promotion place remains to be given away in League Two, but it is hotly-contested by three very good sides. SkyPlayer are on a great run of form, six from six, and will finish as the top-pointscorers in the league. However, they still have to face the League Champions Goleta Hotspur. They will of course be hoping that Goleta have left some cracks in their GW36 set-up because SkyPlayer almost certainly need this win, given that the other two challengers are facing the bottom two sides in the League.

Should SkyPlayer beat Goleta (for the first time), they will get their promotion at the final whistle. If they lose, you’d fancy Alleviate The Tedium and The Phenoms to overtake them. Should that happen, then second place will be decided on total Fantasy Points. Currently, ATT have a slender 8-point advantage. In the week just concluded The Phenoms outscored ATT by 10. If they can repeat that feat then The Phenoms (who were top-three for 34 gameweeks) will reclaim second, and the third-placed team will have to try for promotion through the playoffs.

In a postseason preview – we know that Boudi’s Crew will be contenders avoiders for the Wooden Spoon from GW37. The other team joining them will be either Shams army or Don’t Tripp on Silva. The loser will not only be engaging in the trial-by-fire tourney of the damned, but they will miss out on the IMLQ’s. The team that finishes eighth will have that bonus to play for next season, effectively entering the tournament next week.

Shams army could make it into the IMLQ’s with a win or a draw against The Phenoms (a la GW18), if DToS draw or lose to Jaysokker. Fifth-placed Jaysokker are already set in place, so if Don’t Tripp finish eighth, then they will have back-to-back games to look forward to. There is also a possibility that Harambe Hotspur (who passed 10,000 all-time points last week) could fall to eighth too. Expect changes before the season is concluded!

The Belyea Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration.
The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. 🏆
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!

One more out, just three remain. Ole’s at the wheel crawl out of the firepit covered in scars and sweat. They dust themselves off and pray that we don’t repeat this game next season… 😂

Week Thirty-Six – only 3 teams remain:
BattleVAR Galactico, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur

The Big One

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – two Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

This week’s top scorers:
Prestige Worldwide – 94 Fantasy points
Gloopy Yarbles – 92 FPts
You Beto Believe It – 86 FPts
BattleVAR Galactico – 82 FPts
Lingardium Weviosa – 81 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. Last week was Scott Twine with Twine XI. This week’s celebrity guest is another Burnley FC star – Iceland’s star midfielder Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson. JBG joined newly-instated Premier League side Burnley in 2016 from Charlton Athletic and has scored 14 goals in 198 appearances for the claret and blues, most recently two weeks ago away at Bramall Lane. Jóhann manages JBG Fc and they are fourth in the All Players Softness League.

In the final two gameweeks, all forty teams will be involved in one of the postseason tournaments.
Click on the drop-downs to see more detail about each:

⚽︎ Champion of Champions

⚽︎ The Champions of each league, the BFFA Cup winners and the Champions League winners will take part in a Champion-of-Champions tournament.
This season, as there will be five or six teams in the CoC, the top two GW37 scores will qualify for the GW38 Grand Final.

⚽︎ Runners-Up Trophy

⚽︎ The 4x Second-placed teams, the 4x Third-placed teams, the Champions League Runners-Up (Gloopy Yarbles) and the BFFA Cup Runners-Up (assuming that they’re not also league champions) will play in a Runners-Up pool. They will play to see who can get the best total out of the final two gameweeks.

⚽︎ Champions League Qualifiers

⚽︎ The 4x Fourth-placed teams will play-off for two Champions League places.

The teams will be seeded by their Fantasy Points total.
#1 will play #4 over two legs, and #2 faces #3.

If, however, the BFFA Cup winners (TBD) finish in fourth place, then the topscoring fourth-placed team will automatically be entered into next season’s Champions League, and the other two will playoff (across GWs 37 & 38) for the remaining slot.

⚽︎ The Intramural League Qualifers

⚽︎ The teams in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th will play in IML Qualifiers.
One team from each League will play in next season’s Intramural League.

For the 2024 Intramural League, one team from each league goes forward to the IML QF’s. Essentially, GW37 is the First Round of next season’s IML competition.

GW37: 5th v 8th and 6th v 7th
GW38: Winner v Winner.

If the CL/Cup winner(s) finish in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th, then the highest-placed remaining team gets a bye to their division’s IML Qualifier Final.

⚽︎ The Wooden Spoon

⚽︎ Every season needs an outright loser, right? The teams finishing the season in 9th and 10th will play in a Wooden Spoon pool. The worst two scores in GW37 will play in a GW38 head-to-head where the loser gets the Last Place Trophy.

Some teams will be involved in more than one competition (for example, the Playoff teams will also be involved in the RUT or IMLQ’s).

In the graphic above, if the tables remain as they are at the end of GW36, the teams in yellow would be involved in the Champion of Champions tournament. They include the Champions League winners and the BFFA Cup winners.

The teams in grey (including the CL runners-up Gloopy Yarbles) will be entered into the Runners-Up Trophy, the teams finishing in the blue fourth positions will be in the Champions League Qualifiers and the teams finishing in the green positions will start next season early with the IML Preliminary Rounds.

And finally, the teams finishing in the purple positions (3rd and 8th) will also have a playoff game to contend…

Playoffs

After the end of Gameweek 36, we will be able to confirm the final league positions of all 40 teams.
All the top three teams will be awarded a payout.
The top two teams (Champ., Lge 1 & Lge 2) will get promotion and the bottom two teams will be doomed to relegation.

We will then also have the fixtures for our three Play-offs:

⚽︎ 8th, Premier League -v- 3rd, Championship ⚽︎
⚽︎ 8th, Championship
-v- 3rd, League One ⚽︎
⚽︎ 8th, League One
-v- 3rd, League Two ⚽︎

Two legs, best aggregate score wins the place.

The 2024 Champions League

There will be sixteen teams entered into next season’s Champions League:
⚽︎ The top three from each League,
⚽︎ 2x postseason qualifiers (from the fourth-placed finishers),
⚽︎ The current Champions League Winners (Sporting Wicker Park),
⚽︎ The BFFA Cup Winners (StillluvQPR).

If the BFFA Cup Winners finish in the top three in their league, then there will be an open place which will go to the highest-scoring team(s) that finish below a top three place (see the reserve list in the graphic above).

If the Cup winners finish in fourth place then the highest-scoring other fourth-placed team will get an automatic place in the 2024 Champions League.

The Best-ish Team of the Season

Finally, the Best-ish tournament will continue right until the end of Gameweek 38.
The team that finishes top of the leaderboard will win the prize money and have their names written down in history (by which we mean – on the Teams page here). Shiny.
