Qualified for 2024 CL: Housewives Favourite, Sporting Wicker Park

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• The Champions League Final rematch, Sporting Wicker Park v Gloopy Yarbles, became the Game of the Season (180FPts) and is very unlikely to be beaten. The incredible win helped give SWP their seventh-placed spot back and move them out of the play-off place for now.
Farkelife got a surprising win over the league leaders Smash & Grab at a very crucial point in the season. Housewives Favourite did what they do best and are back in the driving seat.
Route 57 make it 4 out of 4 against Barons. Vengence for last season where Barons got a clean sweep over Route 57.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Route 57 FC -v- Housewives Favourite – 4th -v- 1st
GW 8: 37 – 31 // GW 17: 28 – 37 // GW 26: 42 – 76
So much at stake here with three teams fighting for second place, and two others fighting to avoid it. R57 need to hold off Gloopy Yarbles, one point below them, and El Dude Bros whom they face in the final week in a guaranteed six-pointer for third place. If Smash & Grab lose again this weekend, that game next week could be a contest for second! Also, if Smash were to lose this weekend…Wives Fave could be crowned Premier League Champions next Thursday.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️⏱️
The Premier League Champions of 2024 will now be one of only two teams – Housewives Favourite or Smash & Grab. On paper, Smash look like they have two very easy games to close the season out, they’ve won all six of their games against Barons and SWP so far this season.

Whilst the top two look like keeping their spots, in either order, the three teams beneath are primed in case that silver medal becomes more attainable. El Dude Bros, Route 57 and Gloopy Yarbles are all vying for third place, the associated prize money and a place in next season’s Champions League. That third place could be decided in the final gameweek when El Dude and R57 meet again, but if Gloopy beat Farkelife this week then they might take control of the mêlée.

Farkelife are now safe from relegation. They can’t unfortunately make 5th place and so will be playing in the IML Qualifier Semi-Final in GW37. The two teams that are prone to a drop, Sporting Wicker Park & Mighty fine feeling, both have difficult games to come. SWP have Smash & Grab in the final week and they haven’t beaten them in the last eleven meetings (L10 D1); MFF face El Dude Bros who are third and in good form, but MFF got the better of them nine weeks ago and need to do it again to avoid being involved in the playoffs.

Gloopy Yarbles are still the top reserves for a potential open spot in next season’s Champions League. If Hung Like a Bony win the Cup this week coming, the Yarbles could be in with a shot. Then again, if Smash & Grab drop out of the top three, that reserve spot could go to them.

And with Sporting Wicker Park definitely ending up 6th, 7th or 8th now, whoever finishes 5th will get a bye to the PL’s IMLQ Final.

Championship

Promoted: Hung Like a Bony

Qualified for 2024 CL: Hung Like a Bony, Vanishing Spray

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Hung Like a Bony v AFC Chester came very close to producing the Game of the Season, just 3 points shy of SWP v Gloopy, not bad for a ten-man team and a team in tenth. If only that Diaz shot had gone in off the post instead of out…
Vanishing Spray must’ve been sweating on Wednesday as the mighty Toffee’s did the business Klopp’s end-of-era Liverpool. Tarkowski not only got a second clean sheet for All Star Gunners and picked up a bonus point too, but also had a shot saved in the first half. Luckily for the team in second, Pickford made enough saves, earning 2BP, to edge Spray in front and win by a point.

🫣 The One to Watch:
All Star Gunners -v- Hung Like a Bony – 4th -v- 1st
GW 8: 33 – 46 // GW 17: 48 – 64 // GW 26: 49 – 38
It’s another 1st v 4th highlighted match. Hung could win the league next week, but ASG also want to be promoted into the bigger prize pool next season. They could make the playoffs if Cullen the herd fail against Fergi Time again, but they probably need to win both of their remaining games in order to make it. Unfortunately, not only are they up against the team at the top of both the Championship and the Best-ish League, but Gameweek 35 is also CUP FINAL week for Hung LaB. They will be bringing some incredible firepower, especially after smashing 100FPts this week.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️⏱️
The race for the title is still very much on. Just two teams in the race now. League leaders and #1 pointscorers Hung are in the driving seat but don’t have the easiest of games tomorrow, whilst Spray have ATC followed by AFC, Chester. 8th-placed Atletico Topo Chico are in full desperation mode now. Only two consecutive high-scoring wins will save them from a relegation playoff, and we know dangerous teams on the edge can be.

There are four teams that could take the place in the promotion play-off – Vanishing Spray obviously would be gutted if they had to earn promotion in the postseason, whereas ASG or Fergi Time would be delighted. Cullen the herd currently occupy third place with a game against high-scoring Fergi Time this week, the outcome of which could reshape the league. ASG as we have just mentioned have to face #1 Hung and Spray are going to try and get a fourth league win over ATC.

That just leaves GoFys and Webuiltthis City. City look like they are rooted into seventh now, but GoFys can still make a bid for fourth place and a Champions League Playoff. If they get three points off the poor-performing City side, they will play the team in that fourth place in the final gameweek hoping other results go their way. Failing that, fifth place and a better IMLQ draw would be a consolation.

League One

Qualified for 2024 CL: De Bruyne Trousers, Uncle Monty, Whiskey De Bruyne

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Whiskey de Bruyne are back to winning ways with a big win against league leaders Uncle Monty, whom they haven’t beaten all season. They are now guaranteed to finish in the top three and a Champions League place thanks to C&BS’s win over Peltier.
• The big news this week is obviously that De Bruyne Trousers have immediately bounced back into the top spot with a third win over BattleVAR.
• Dropping points to an already-relegated side can be devastating, but this week a 55-all draw involving CG XI granted them a lift up into a CLQ place.
• And Cup finalists StillluvQPR are back out of the automatic relegation zone with the best score in the League this week.

🫣 The One to Watch:
East Loop United -v- CG XI – 7th -v- 4th
GW 8: 54 – 49 // GW 17: 25 – 51 // GW 26: 40 – 34
With just three points between 4th v 7th tonight, that Champions League Playoff place is going to go to one of four teams. All have a good shot at it, but the result of this game will decide whether CG XI can retain control of fourth place, or whether it becomes a free-for-all in the final week. ELU know that they must win this one to remain in the fight, and they will be cheered on by the other two midtablers.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️⏱️
League One is neatly split into three sections going into the final two games. The top three could be decided this week depending on results. Whiskey need to win both if they are going to improve, but they are safe now from fourth place. Uncle Monty have two bottom-half opponents remaining, but have faltered against both earlier in the season (W3, L2, D1 combined). De Bruyne Trousers might have to go to Whiskey at the end of the season needing a win for the title, but it is next to impossible that they would drop below second. Promotion should be guaranteed from this position.

As mentioned above, the mid-table teams can no longer catch the top three, so the CLQ and the IMLQ’s will be decided over the next two weeks. ELU have to face two of the other three; namely CG XI and Peltier. Chicken and Bane San have an incredibly difficult task of needing points from Uncle Monty and Whiskey De Bruyne, but they’ve won 3 of the 6 games against those two this season so don’t be surprised if they get one or two more wins before the season is done.

At the bottom of the league we know of one team that will be in the dreaded Wooden Spoon thingy next month. BattleVAR and Stillluv look like they are going to take the battle for survival all the way to the death. This week Stillluv broke free of ninth for the first time since GW13, at the expense of BVAR who haven’t been that low since GW1. There is an outside chance that one of them could escape to seventh with a couple of wins, but it looks as though this will be a fight for a second chance via the playoffs. Ninth-placed BattleVAR (still my favourite team name) have by far the harder games against Uncle Monty and CG XI, but have beaten both before and also outscored both this week too. More than a glimmer of hope there.

League Champions: Goleta Hotspur

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
🏆 Goleta Hotspur complete the Grand Slam. They’ve won 9️⃣-in-a-row and timed it perfectly to co-incide with being crowned League Champions! 🍾🥳🎉🎊
• 112 from SkyPlayerInFPL. Wow. Say no more.
• That win for Goleta dropped The Phenoms down two places. Three teams shooting for promotion, just one point apart. Suddenly that draw between SkyPlayer and Phenoms looks crucial.

🫣 The One to Watch:
SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA -v- Jaysokker – 2nd -v- 5th
GW 8: 37 – 44 // GW 17: 84 – 37 // GW 26: 35 – 26
Tough one to pick this week. All three games involving the top four look amazing, but our focus is going on whether or not SkyPlayer can retain control of that second (and last) remaining automatic promotion spot. In order to do so they have to beat Jaysokker who in theory could go as high as third, but in reality look destined to remain fifth. The bookies definitely fancy the rookies for this one given their current form (WWWWW), incredible pointscoring recently and ambition, but the result of this game will dictate the positions and the tactics for the final match.

😬 The Run-In ⏱️⏱️
Although Goleta have now been crowned Champions, they are on a roll and would like to finish the season out with that streak still alive. A win over Alleviate the Tedium next week would make it 10 and extend what is already the longest winning streak of the season. With that in mind, they have nothing else to gain at this point and may be planning in the back rooms to build a team to take on the Champion of Champions tournament starting in Gameweek 37. It may seem like players are rested over the next two games in order to have a stronger squad to take on the other champions.

All eyes are on the remaining games for the teams in second, third and fourth. Alleviate The Tedium still have that difficult game against the new League Champions, while The Phenoms may have the easiest game of all, at home to Ole’s at the Wheel whom they have beaten all three times. Of course, SkyPlayer will want to win against Jaysokker this week, not only to keep their grip on second, but also because they still have Goleta to play once more.

There’s no relegation here of course, but we will be keeping an eye on eighth place and seeing who will be playing for an Intramural League place next season and who will be joining Boudi’s Crew in the Wooden Spoon. Sham’s army might expect to win against Boudi this week, but may not fancy their chances so much the following week against The Phenoms. Don’t Tripp on Silva have Harambe and then Jaysokker in the final two hoping that they will be less focussed on the league and more on the IMLQ’s ahead of them.

The Belyea Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration.
The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. 🏆
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!

A.F.C. Chester make their way out in the biggest week of the season with a score of 67. Goals from Bailey, Diaby and Branthwaite propelled them to the top of the list. Right behind them, BattleVAR and Boudi’s Crew both finished with a next-best 59FPts, but unfortunately they’re going to have to try again next week. Four remain.

Week Thirty-Five – only 4 teams remain:
BattleVAR Galactico, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Ole’s at the wheel

The Big One

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – two Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

This week’s top scorers:
Smoky Bacon Athletic – 137 Fantasy Points
Kinder Mbuemo – 131 FPts
Prestige Worldwide – 126 FPts
You Beto Believe It – 118 FPts
Jaysokker – 118 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. Last week was Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal. This week, another of the famous All Players Softness FPL manager – Scott Twine with Twine XI.

Next up for Bristol City is Rotherham United and Scott has scored the last two times he has faced the Millers, albeit it with Hull and Burnley. He hasn’t yet played Rotherham in a Bristol City shirt, but he did score on his debut at Ashton Gate against Watford and former Premier League shotstopper Ben Hamer.

In Rotherham next weekend he might face former teammate Peter Kioso, with whom he shared the scoresheet whilst they were playing for MK Dons. In one game (away at Lincoln City), Kioto assisted Twine for one of his two goals that day. Dons won 3-2. Ten months prior to that however, Twine had scored against Kioso’s relegation-bound Northampton for a different team of Robins – Swindon Town. Swindon were sitting 18th at the time. They later fell below the Cobblers and both teams were relegated to League Two.

But, as we know, MK Dons granted Scott the opportunity to remain in the third tier long enough for Burnley to notice and invite him to the Championship. Unfortunately, Burnley may not still be Premier League when Scott returns from his loan spell in the West Country, but we shall see.

Over the next few gameweeks I will try to keep you updated here on how the postseason is shaping up and what to look out for. Here’s a brief overview of how the postseason will play out.

Postseason Tournaments

In the final two gameweeks, all forty teams will be involved in one of the postseason tournaments.
Click on the drop-downs to see more detail about each:

⚽︎ Champion of Champions

⚽︎ The Champions of each league, the BFFA Cup winners and the Champions League winners will take part in a Champion-of-Champions tournament.
This season, as there will be five or six teams in the CoC, the top two GW37 scores will qualify for the GW38 Grand Final.

⚽︎ Runners-Up Trophy

⚽︎ The 4x Second-placed teams, the 4x Third-placed teams, the Champions League Runners-Up (Gloopy Yarbles) and the BFFA Cup Runners-Up (assuming that they’re not also league champions) will play in a Runners-Up pool. They will play to see who can get the best total out of the final two gameweeks.

⚽︎ Champions League Qualifiers

⚽︎ The 4x Fourth-placed teams will play-off for two Champions League places.

The teams will be seeded by their Fantasy Points total.
#1 will play #4 over two legs, and #2 faces #3.

If, however, the BFFA Cup winners (TBD) finish in fourth place, then the topscoring fourth-placed team will automatically be entered into next season’s Champions League, and the other two will playoff (across GWs 37 & 38) for the remaining slot.

⚽︎ The Intramural League Qualifiers

⚽︎ The teams in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th will play in IML Qualifiers.
One team from each League will play in next season’s Intramural League.

For the 2024 Intramural League, one team from each league goes forward to the IML QF’s. Essentially, GW37 is the First Round of next season’s IML competition.

GW37: 5th v 8th and 6th v 7th
GW38: Winner v Winner.

If the CL/Cup winner(s) finish in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th, then the highest-placed remaining team gets a bye to their division’s IML Qualifier Final.

⚽︎ The Wooden Spoon

⚽︎ Every season needs an outright loser, right? The teams finishing the season in 9th and 10th will play in a Wooden Spoon pool. The worst two scores in GW37 will play in a GW38 head-to-head where the loser gets the Last Place Trophy.

Some teams will be involved in more than one competition (for example, the Playoff teams will also be involved in the RUT or IMLQ’s).

In the graphic above, if the tables remain as they are at the end of GW36, the teams in yellow would be involved in the Champion of Champions tournament. This will also include the BFFA Cup winners. The remaining four teams in the Cup have a ‘(c)’ beside their name. Sporting Wicker Park will also be involved as CL Winners.

The teams in grey (including the CL runners-up Gloopy Yarbles) will be entered into the Runners-Up Trophy, and the teams finishing in the green positions will start next season early with the IML Preliminary Rounds.

And finally, the teams finishing in the purple positions (3rd and 8th) will also have a playoff game to contend…

Playoffs

After the end of Gameweek 36, we will be able to confirm the final league positions of all 40 teams.
All the top three teams will be awarded a payout.
The top two teams (Champ., Lge 1 & Lge 2) will get promotion and the bottom two teams will be doomed to relegation.

We will then also have the fixtures for our three Play-offs:

⚽︎ 8th, Premier League -v- 3rd, Championship ⚽︎
⚽︎ 8th, Championship
-v- 3rd, League One ⚽︎
⚽︎ 8th, League One
-v- 3rd, League Two ⚽︎

Two legs, best aggregate score wins the place.

The 2024 Champions League

There will be sixteen teams entered into next season’s Champions League:
⚽︎ The top three from each League,
⚽︎ 2x postseason qualifiers (from the fourth-placed finishers),
⚽︎ The current Champions League Winners (Sporting Wicker Park),
⚽︎ The BFFA Cup Winners (one of the two remaining – Hung Like a Bony or StillluvQPR).

If the BFFA Cup Winners finish in the top three in their league, then there will be an open place which will go to the highest-scoring team(s) that finish below a top three place (see the reserve list in the graphic above).

If the Cup winners finish in fourth place then the highest-scoring other fourth-placed team will get an automatic place in the 2024 Champions League.

The Best-ish Team of the Season

Finally, the Best-ish tournament will continue right until the end of Gameweek 38.
The team that finishes top of the leaderboard will win the prize money and have their names written down in history (by which we mean – on the Teams page here). Shiny.
