Score of the Season:

Game of the Season:
Smash & Grab 83 – 58 Farkelife (GW25)

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Smash & Grab’s 400th match saw them take a narrow win, remain top of the Premier League, hold on to #1 in the Best-ish rankings and #1 in the World.
Wives Fave‘s top score causes the top three to break away from the pack.
• Botman’s own goal, albeit Livramento’s clearance the ricoheted back in off his flailing knee, cost El Dude Brothers three fantasy points and subsequentially three league points. Nine-man MFF stole the win thanks to the efforts of hat-trick hero Jarrod Bowen in the final match of the weekend.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Smash & Grab -v- Sporting Wicker Park – 1st -v- 7th
GW 9: 46 – 39 // GW 18: 27 – 22
It may not be a battle for the league, but we will be treated to a battle between the World’s #1 & #2. Both teams still fighting to finish the season top of the world rankings and more than that, it’s a vengeance game between the two that met two weeks ago in the second round of the BFFA Cup.

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Fergi Time collect their 100th league win against the second-highest-scoring team in the Championship this week and steal fourth place away from them.
• Web City looked like cruising to an easy (albeit low-scoring) win, but then GoFYS got FIVE of the six goals in the final game of the weekend.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Fergi Time -v- Hung Like a Bony – 4th -v- 2nd
GW 9: 30 – 41 // GW 18: 32 – 16
Fergi TIme are the in-form team at the moment, unbeaten in six, while Hung are the top-scoring team in the League. Expect fireworks. Fergi’s Saka & Martinelli go up against a leaky Sheffield United defence, while Foden and Palmer will be involved in city derbies against weaker teams.

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• A perfect storm for C&BS moves them up to fourth. Despite only having ten men, they managed the second-highest score, beating and moving closer to WdB in third, while Stillluv (topscore) beat Jaysokker (3rd-best) and opened up the door to fourth.
• The top two win, both now on 5-game winning streaks. Next week they play the teams in third and fourth, before facing each other in Gameweek 28.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Chicken and Bane San -v- Uncle Monty – 4th -v- 1st
GW 9: 60 – 53 // GW 18: 20 – 20
We won’t focus on the De Bruyne Derby again, although it’s a very important one this weekend, but equally as important is 1st v 4th, Monty v C&BS, former league leaders against the current. Last time out they tied 20-each, but this weekend promises to be a lot more. Between them they have collected nine wins in the last five gameweeks.

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
Alleviate the Tedium’s 5-game unbeaten streak is broken by Goleta Hotspur. Douglas Luis netted two in the first game and they controlled the match from there. They move up into the automatic promotion places at the expense of Jaysokker.
• 8-man Boudi’s Crew somehow win second game in a row!
The Phenoms enjoyed a third straight win over Ole’s at the Wheel and are now five points clear at the top; six clear of third with a comfortable FPts differential.

🫣 The One to Watch:
SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA -v- Goleta Hotspur – 4th -v- 2nd
GW 9: 44 – 44 // GW 18: 23 – 38
SkyPlayer and Goleta both moved up the table last week and look to break free above the quagmire of midtable. The former, who spent most of the season wallowing in seventh, are now back up to fourth with a chance to go second, but also threatened by two teams below that are within striking distance too. Goleta won their last meeting comfortably and scored very well last week too, but this week they are up against Palmer, Jackson and Neto, all directly facing the Goleta defence.

The Belyea Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration.
The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. 🏆
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!

This week, it was the seventh-best team who claim freedom from The Belyea. With a very respectable 53 fantasy points, Barons, ensure that they will not have their names on the Belyea Memorial Trophy, this season.
12 remain.

Week Twenty-Seven: 12 teams remain –
A.F.C. Chester, BattleVAR Galactico, Boudi’s Crew, FC Santa Barbara, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, Route 57 FC, The Phenoms, Uncle Monty, Vanishing Spray FC, Whiskey de Bruyne.

The Big One

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – two Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

This week’s top scorers:
HUng Like a Bony – 87 FPts
DCL’s MRI – 85 FPts
You Beto Believe It – 68 FPts
Jaysokker – 66 FPts
Alleviate the Tedium – 64 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. Last week, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. This week we return to The Cherries Cup with the great returnee – David Brooks. Managing an FPL team is often secondary to being a professional footballer, and unfortunately it shows with Tinchy Sneijder‘s last outing, scoring only 38 on what was a disappointing gameweek for a lot of teams (ahem). But we can only congratulate him on his recovery and return to football and wish him great things.

Before taking an unpleasant rest and recuperation break, he had already achieved great things too. Not only was he part of the 2022 Championship runners-up squad, he also won the Golden Boot at the 2017 Maurice Revello Tournament, and won Welsh Footballer of the Year in 2018. He has earned 27 caps for Wales and scored three times for his country. His debut goal went in against World Cup Runners-Up Croatia in a Euro Championship Qually in Osijek.

Next week we will re-visit the seasiders and set-up an PL/FPL player-manager who scored a brace last time out against upcoming opponents Sheffield United.
