Here are the latest standings.

Team of the Week:
Hung Like a Bony
80 Points

Score of the Season:
Hung Like a Bony – 87 FPts (GW7)

Game of the Season:
Smash & Grab 70 – 61 Gloopy Yarbles (GW6)

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Five of the top six all win. PL still engaged in the tightest race of all-time…!
• Foden and Watkins combined to give Smash & Grab an unassailable 65.

🫣 The One to Watch:
El Dude Bros -v- Farkelife2nd -v- 5th
GW 6: 53 – 38 // GW 15: 30 – 54
Farkelife: The (joint-)most in-form team in the BFFA against one of the four teams within a point above them. A win for each in the previous two. Could shake things up!

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• A phenomenal 80 from another team combining Foden and Watkins – Hung Like a Bony – puts them second and arguably title favourites.
• League leaders beaten for a third consecutive time by Fergi Time.
• A 16 from Garnacho gives GoFYS a fifth straight win and gives Spray the slip.

🫣 The One to Watch:
GoFysFC -v- Hung Like a Bony7th -v- 2nd
GW 6: 51 – 46 // GW 15: 50 – 42
The other in-form team (WWWWW) against the league’s topscorers. Should be tasty.

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Chicken and Bane San hit their highest score since May 2022.
• De Bruyne Trousers get a third win over ELU this season thanks to Foden’s final day spectacle.
• Uncle Monty also go to 3/3 against FCSB.

🫣 The One to Watch:
StillluvQPR -v- De Bruyne Trousers9th -v- 3rd
GW 6: 67 – 62 // GW 15: 41 – 34
Stillluv have been struggling for points recently, but going on the last two encounters, this may be their ticket back into the league. Which, for De Bruyne Trousers, means that their title challenge could stutter again…

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• Boudi’s Crew narrowly miss out on rare win; Harambe stay in title race.
• SkyPlayer – third win in a row, third consecutive scoring over 50; still league’s top scoring side.

🫣 The One to Watch:
SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA -v- Harambe Hotspur5th -v- 4th
GW 6: 39 – 41 // GW 15: 38 – 25
Hard to ignore the #1 Best-ish contenders in the middle of a spectacular onslaught. After three high-scoring weeks, they’ve finally risen above seventh, and could go third this weekend. They play fourth place Harambe in the league, and third-placed Goleta in the Cup. Could be a massive weekend for the newcomers.

The Belyea Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration.
The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. 🏆
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!

With a pleasant 50, Housewives Favourite may have only been the fifth-best overall, but it’s the best of the rest here and gracefully step out. ‘L’ is for Leaving with head held high.

Week Twenty-Four: 15 teams remain –
Barons, Route 57 FC, Sporting Wicker Park, A.F.C. Chester, Fergi Time, Vanishing Spray FC, BattleVAR Galactico, FC Santa Barbara, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, The Phenoms.

The Big One

Smoky Bacon Athletic, 2023/24

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one).

Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – two Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

This week’s top scorers:
DCL’s MRI – 94 FPts
Jaysokker – 83 FPts
Ampadu-du-du – 82 FPts
Hung Like a Bony – 81 FPts
De Bruyne Trousers – 80 FPts

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week, former England, Manchester United and Watford ‘keeper… Mr. Ben Foster.

Ben has had a bit of a journeyman career, starting off at seventh tier Southern League Premier sides Tiverton Town and Stafford Rangers, before making a big step up to League One when Stoke City & Oxford United legend Denis Smith signed him for his first stint at Wrexham AFC. It was a poor season for Wrexham, but while watching the Football League Trophy Final, Alex Ferguson was impressed enough by Foster to offer £1m for him.

Whilst at Manchester United, he enjoyed a promotion to the Premier League with Watford and the following season with them too before returning to his parent club. Once back at United, Foster was the understudy for Edwin van der Sar and struggled for game time, but he did get a taste of the Champions League and won back-to-back League Cups with the Red Devils. From there, we moved on to Birmingham City and immediately won the League Cup again, also winning the Alan Hardaker Trophy for a second time. After impressing at Brum, he made the short trip over to The Hawthorns where he played in the Premier League with West Brom for another seven seasons.

In 2018, he continued his Premier League adventure with Watford. After a relegation and promotion back the following season, Foster announced his retirement. However, following an injury to Rob Lainton at Wrexham AFC, ex-Bury & Reading midfielder Phil Parkinson managed to tempt Foster to return to his former club on a short-term contract. Now owned by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham were enjoying a revival and were gunning for promotion out of the National League. There is only one automatic promotion spot out of the National League, and it was being contested between Wrexham and Notts County. In true Hollywood fashion Wrexham stormed the league, losing only three games, and beat County 3-2 in the fifth-last game of the season. In that game, where the lead changed three times, Ben Foster saved a penalty in the 96th minute and allowed Wrexham to regain first place in the league and eventually win the title.

Now fully retired from playing, Ben Foster runs a website about his life as a cycling enthusiast, a football pundit and fantasy football fanatic. His team TheCyclingGK host and compete in their self-titled league (TheCyclingGK Super League) to promote his website – https://thecyclinggk.com/ – and their associates.

TheCyclingGK still competes with former teammates all over the country and next week we will look at another of these. Next week we will see how one Premier League midfielder has managed his fantasy team during his injury time off and how his goalscoring return to the PL this week affected his FPL performance.
