The Belyea Cup
Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!
β² You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration. β²
βΌπβΌ The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. βΌπβΌ
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!
With a phenomenal 84 fantasy points, League Two’s SkyPlayerInFPL topscores this week (by a clear 15 points). It was the second-biggest score of the season, lifts them all the way up to second in the Best-ish rankings, and rightfully remove themselves from this competition. Setting the bar high.
In Week Eighteen: 21 teams – Barons, Farkelife, Housewives Favourite, Mighty fine feeling, Route 57 FC, Sporting Wicker Park, AFC Chester, Allison Wonderland, Fergi Time, GoFYS FC, Vanishing Spray FC, BattleVAR Galactico, CG XI, FC Santa Barbara, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, The Phenoms.
The Big One
It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of Β£150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one). Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.
This week’s top scorers:
Jaysokker: 75 FPts
Lingardium Leviosa: 74 FPts
Gloopy Yarbles: 72 FPts
Kinder Mbeumo: 68 FPts
You Beto Believe It: 67 FPts
On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week… Rob Green! The former England ‘keeper and West Ham’s Hammer of the Year 2007-08 is now managing Wonky XI in the Fantasy 606 leagues alongside Maisie Adam and a few legends of the EPL, some of which we might encounter later in the season…
Rob has 12 England caps to top his 255 appearances in the Premier League and 658 total apps. The Premier League statisticians inform us that he has kept 53 PL clean sheets and made 795 saves – roughly three a game. Not bad at all. However, he currently ranks 20th in our league, so maybe he was a better player than a fantasy manager… just saying. He is currently very busy reporting and offering punditry here, there and everywhere, and I’m led to believe that he is also studying (and promoting) a business management degree. That’s certainly not to be scoffed at and we wish him well.
And speaking of goalkeepers, we’d like to give huge congratulations to Mary Earps, our first in-game celebrity back in Week Four, on winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Nice one!
Next week, another star who’s turned out for Leeds United and also Norwich City. A midfielder who has, like Rob, also been included in the PFA Team of the Year. He was once the League One Player of the Year playing for Brentford and although his name now adorns the Norwich City teamsheets, he will be here on Boxing Day representing Leeds United on behalf of the backroom staff in a festive nod to all the hard work that they do behind the scenes. More on that next week.
Until then, MERRY CHRISTMAS! π»β½ππβ½ππβ½ππβ½π₯
