57 Points

Score of the Season:

Game of the Season:

Premier League

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• For the THIRD week in a row, a one-point win gives the PL a change of leader.
• The team in tenth could’ve stolen a point or three from Route 57, had they not collected an incredible six yellow cards…
• After a fifth-straight win, a 40-point victory, Gloopy Yarbles are back within a win of first place.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Housewives Favourite -v- Route 57 FC 2nd v 1st // GW 8: 37 – 31
Without a shadow of a doubt, the tussle at the top will capture the attention of all BFFA enthusiasts next weekend. It’s set up to be a real slobberknocker, a No-el Du-el, a six-pointer that will be pivotal.

Championship

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• The top three lose, league tightens up.
• Cullen the herd smash top side WCFC, go third.
• ASG win seventh game in eight, move up to fourth.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Allison Wonderland -v- A.F.C. Chester – 9th v 10th // GW 8: 19 – 32
It might look like a nothing game to some, but for anyone in the Championship this is a very important match. If AFC win they could be out of the relegation zone by the new year; Allison Wonderland win, then a lot of pressure gets put on ATC and GoFys, who play the top two this weekend. Both have won the last two games, the next win would constitute a streak.

League One

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• In-form Peltier win fifth consecutive, retain their firm grip on first place.
• Uncle Monty BFF hammer back Whiskey De Bruyne, take their place in second.
• Ayew’s red card (StillluvQPR) and Bernardo Silva’s 2BP (ELU) breaks their four-game losing streak and gives them a four-point cushion over the relegation zone.

🫣 The One to Watch:
StillluvQPR -v- Peltier – 9th v 1st // GW 8: 42 – 44
Just two points the difference last time they met, and undoubtably a very important game for both. Both teams under pressure to perform; Peltier very successfully recently, Stillluv less so.

League Two

😲 Eye-Catching Stuff:
• The top four are separated by just two points; all four changed places last weekend.
• Jaysokker and Harambe both earn back three points that they lost in the reverse fixtures.
• Goleta overtake The Phenoms with a big win to become league leaders.

🫣 The One to Watch:
Ole’s at the wheel -v- The Phenoms – 4th v 2nd // GW 8: 33 – 41
Another six-pointer this weekend, potentially offering the winner a place at the top of the league! Lots of similarites between the two teams – Saka v Martinelli, Walker v Akanji, Maupay v Wissa to name just three.

The Belyea Cup

Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!

You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration.
🏆 The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. 🏆
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!

The Premier League are showing off again with the topscores. Impressively, it was 57 again. Not only that, but it was Gloopy Yarbles again 😲 They were matched this week by BFFA stalwarts Boss who were still in the mix, but no longer! There’s the door gents, thanks for playing. Twenty-three remain.

In Week Seventeen: 22 teams – Barons, Farkelife, Housewives Favourite, Mighty fine feeling, Route 57 FC, Sporting Wicker Park, AFC Chester, Allison Wonderland, Fergi Time, GoFYS FC, Vanishing Spray FC, BattleVAR Galactico, CG XI, FC Santa Barbara, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, SkyPlayerInFPL, The Phenoms.

The Big One

Prestige Worldwide, 2023/24

It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one). Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.

Somehow, despite also stumbling over Trippier, DCI’s MRI scored 78FPts on a week when the average was just a mere 40. They captained Salah (pre-game, smart!), and their trust in Son, Pickford and Cunha was well rewarded too.

Alleviate the Tedium also gave an outstanding performance last weekend, and for them it was Adingra and Solanke building on the foundation set by Salah and Son. And Prestige Worldwide also had a successful week, climbing three places with a no-less impressive 65. They’ll be very grateful for assists from Alvarez and Porro that edged them above the above-average scoring ASG and YBBI.

All that set up a very interesting layout at the top of the league – the top three are just one point below each other, then the next three occupy a tight little band too, six points below the leading pack. It’s fair to say that any of the top ten could be rocketing to the top with a good weekend, and it’s anyone’s guess who will be Christmas #1.

On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week… Maisie Adam. Star of the stage and screen, Maisie has been a life-long Leeds United fan and has endured many highs and lows with them. She recently played in the annual charity match Soccer Aid alongside (and against) legends including Roberto Carlos, Patrice Evra, Nani, Izzy Christiansen, Francesco Totti, Hernán Crespo and Robbie Keane, David James, Jill Scott, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Loki Tom Hiddlestone.

Amongst many appearances on panel shows and stand-up acts, Maisie Adam is the presenter of a Radio 4 series called The Beautiful Game, in which she discusses her love of football –  and the unspoken sexism that underpinned it growing up. (Chortle.co.uk) In a quote about the show she said “in primary school everyone just played football no matter who you were. It was only when I went to high school that suddenly I realised I had been enjoying, watching, attending, following and playing a sport that I absolutely was not meant to enjoy, watch, attend, follow or indeed play…”
If interested, there is a link to the show right here.

Despite a hectic life touring the country making people laugh, she manages to find time to manage a rag-tag team of Premier League all-stars called To Elland Back. I know a few people here will appreciate the reference. While Leeds United are doing well in the Championship, Adam isn’t faring so well in Fantasy 606 Division 2. They are currently 31st with seven wins from sixteen games.

Three points behind To Elland Back is a team managed by an ex-Leeds United and England goalkeeper. He will be next week’s guest and if you’re into guessing games, I will also give you the following clues to ponder on Google. He is a keeper who won the Championship (albeit ‘The First Division’) with Norwich City before going on to guard the net in the Premier League for West Ham United and QPR. He played for England 12 times, including appearances in the European Championships and once at the World Cup. Hope that gives you something to puzzle over.

Until next week dear friends, look after yourselves.  😊
