The Belyea Cup
Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, ‘Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms’, where everyone is a winner (except one).
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!
ā² You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration. ā²
ā¼šā¼ The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. ā¼šā¼
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!
The latest team to rise above the rest are Peltier with the score of the week. Not easy in the lowest-scoring week of the season, but they made it look easy. Top of the League and out of the BMC!
In Week Fifteen: 24 teams – Barons, Boss, Farkelife, Gloopy Yarbles, Housewives Favourite, Mighty fine feeling, Route 57 FC, Sporting Wicker Park, AFC Chester, Allison Wonderland, Fergi Time, GoFYS FC, Vanishing Spray FC, BattleVAR Galactico, CG XI, FC Santa Barbara, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, SkyPlayerInFPL, The Phenoms.
The Big One
It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of Ā£150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one). Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.
It’s a golden weekend for Jaysokker who got the top score of the week and go to the top of The Big One. Goals from Kudus, Saka, Son and Watkins, on top of big scores form Trippier and Captain Haaland formed a fantastic 75, 21 FPts above the weekly average and they have the advantage going into the midweek games.
Immediately below Jaysokker are a close bunch jostling for position. Gloopy Yarbles are just two points off the top, Peltier just one more back and Smoky Bacon one less than them. And not too far back in fifth, Kinder Mbuemo hit 74 themselves and put themselves right back in the race. The Phenoms did well to move up a place with the sands shifting around them and also enjoying another above-average week were BattleVAR Galactico who pulled themselves off the bottom of the pile with players registering an 11, a 10, a 9, an 8 and a double-7.
On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. This week, to tip our hat to the hard-hit folk at Goodison Park, we are “inviting” in a star who has appeared for the Toffees in the Premier League a record 352 times, scoring 43 goals in the competition – Mr. Leon Osman.
The Everton legend is now a TV pundit for the BBC, Sky and TNT, but he has been featured in the highlight reels many, many times himself during his career. We mentioned his Goal of the Season last week, so here’s a clip of that beauty against AS Larissa for you to enjoy:
https://youtu.be/iBruzHqrLIg?si=X5yVdaxhaDOu34xd
He now manages Kings of Leon 3.0 in the BBC Fantasy 606 celebrity leagues. Unfortunately they are a lowly 44th/51 in the classic league, but a somewhat more respectable 23rd/46 in the Head2Head League. This week he won 71-63 against the actor and lead singer of The Horrors, Faris Badwan.
Last week Osman faced another rock star, someone who is a big West Ham fan (and was there at the Fortuna Arena in Prague to see the Hammers win the Europa Conference in June), but Kings of Leon 3.0 lost that game 55-45 against The Son and Only. Next week Leon will be facing that son, who is now an actor/singer/songwriter himself. You can find out who they both are right here next week.
Hope you are all set for the short transfer windows before GW’s 15 & 16.
I’ll be back with an abridged gameweek update on Friday before we get into Finals Fortnight.
See you then! š„³
