The Belyea Cup
Welcome back to The Belyea Memorial Cup, Rewarding Excellence in Its Many Forms,
where everyone is a winner, except one.
The game is simple – if you get the best score of the remaining teams, you escape.
Each week at least one team gets out, sometimes more, because they are excellent!
▲ You get up to 38 gameweeks to remove yourself from consideration. ▲
▼🏆▼ The last team to be eliminated… gets the Belyea Cup. ▼🏆▼
If there’s more than one team left after the final gameweek then they all, you know, jointly receive this unique award!
Two teams leave the competition this week with a joint top score of clickety-click sixty-six, East Loop United & Goleta Hotspur rise above it all and can enjoy the rest of the season without the fear of the Belyea Cup hanging over them. Relaxing.
In Week Eleven: 28 teams – Barons, Boss, El Dude Bros, Farkelife, Gloopy Yarbles, Housewives Favourite, Mighty fine feeling, Route 57 FC, Sporting Wicker Park, AFC Chester, Allison Wonderland, Atletico Topo Chico, Fergi Time, GoFYS FC, Vanishing Spray FC, Webuiltthis City, BattleVAR Galactico, CG XI, FC Santa Barbara, Peltier, Uncle Monty, Whiskey de Bruyne, Boudi’s Crew, Harambe Hotspur, Jaysokker, Ole’s at the wheel, SkyPlayerInFPL BFFA, The Phenoms.
The Big One
It’s the BFFA Big One. The tried and tested (albeit inferior) traditional form of English Fantasy Football that requires each manager to build a team with a budget of £150,000,000. These teams must have no more than three players from any PL club, excessive transfers are penalised by point deductions, and everyone gets a Haaland (if they want one). Every team also gets to pick a Captain and there are bonus chips to play across the season – Wildcards, a Bench Boost, a Free Hit and Triple Captain points. This is a classic-style fantasy league, open to all BFFA managers past and present.
This week saw big strides upwards from Hung Like a Bony (90FPts, +7 places), The Phenoms (90FPts, +6) and All Star Gunners (91FPts, +3); the latter two filling in for SBA and Jaysokker at third and fourth.
Gloopy Yarbles and Ampadu-du-du hold onto the top two spots with further above-average scores. They both captained Mo Salah (8 x2) while ASG & The Phenoms were smart enough to captain Haaland (16 x2).
On top of hosting a league for the BFFA faithful, we are also involving some unsuspecting stars of the game in our classic league. We have stumbled upon some FPL teams managed by real-life footballers. This week’s guest baller is Josh Brownhill! Unfortunately, Josh didn’t score or assist this week, and neither did teammates Amdouni, Roberts or Beyer. However he was rewarded for his investments in Maddison, Saka (Capt.), Mbeumo and Son. Compared to (most of) the Big 20, Burnalona fc are not doing so well, but the season is young and the table could flip before the final whistle blows.
Next week will be checking in on a player that scored for Boudi’s Crew against Brownhill and Burnley earlier this weekend. A striker that was born just seven days into the new millenium, he has spent most of his career at Bristol City, scoring sixteen goals in over a hundred appearances for the Robins. There he picked up awards for Player of the Month and Young Player of the Year in 2022. He also got his debut for Ghana in the summer of that year, and later made two appearances in the Qatar World Cup.
He joined the Premier League in January this year and scored his third Premier League goal on Saturday. If you haven’t figured out who he is yet, you know where to find us next week!
Have a good one.🙂
