Premier League
Last night the three-horse race for the most coveted title in Fantasy Football became a two-horse race after a close game between second and third ended in a 41-37 win for The Money Team. Bigger than Brolin, who were hoping to go top this week, had their dreams of a second League title mercilessly ended by Jesse Thompson’s side who gave up first place the week before.
Vanishing Spray held on to top spot with a convincing 10-point win over the BayCobblers. With only one game left and two teams still in it, you can see how closely the EPL resembles our own end-of-season drama, those copycats!
The final match of the season for the League leaders will be against third-placed BtB who are guaranteed their position and a share of the prize money. The Money Team have what looks like an easier fixture against relegated East Loop United who drew with GUR this week, however, ELU have outscored TMT on the last two gameweeks, so who knows how next week will turn out. Spray will be praying for a win as a draw might not be enough because The Money Team has a superior matchpoints total.
Championship
Unlike the Premier League, the race for the Championship title will not go down to the final week. Celebrating his fifth straight win, Ian McGuinness has led Boss’ Blues to the Championship crown with a victory over the Association’s second-best scoring team this season, Mighty Fine Feeling. MFF are only 6 matchpoints behind Cabezazo and will be going all out next week for the right to be called “Best-ish” for the second time in three seasons.
All Star Gunners, who have had a fantastic season winning the Champions League and promotion to the Premier League, were held back by a Sporting Wicker Park side who are chasing fourth to book a place in the Champions League next season. They play RelicFC next, who they have beaten twice and lost to twice, needing one more win to climb to 4th. GoFYS FC will play SB Town needing only a point to see them into the 2019/20 Champions League, but they have only beaten the Town five times in seventeen meets, and only once this season, winning 47-46.
At the other end of the table SB Town will be celebrating as their win over Goleta virtually guarantees them Championship football next season. The result however has relegated the Hotspurs to League One. The other two teams to fall out of the Championship will be decided next Sunday. A surprise draw between Banana Swans and PSV Wide Open, thanks Ake’s goal for the Swans and Ndidi’s Kante Points late last night for PSV, means that both teams remain level on 46 points. Ninth-place RelicFC, who haven’t been out of the relegation zone since gameweek 7, could still survive thanks to both teams above them dropping points and their win over GoFYS. Relic will play Sporting Wicker Park next week with both teams playing for something, Banana Swans play bottom side Goleta and PSV play the Champions Boss’ Blues.
League One
There is lots going on in League One next week; this is a very nerve-wracking time. Tralfamadore Zoo won again and relegated Gloopy Yarbles in the process. Tralfam are long-shot contenders for the Best-ish title and could claim more glory if they can claw back the 28 matchpoints between themselves and Cabezazo in League Two. Keep your eyes peeled! StillluvQPR also gave Yer Man a nudge over the edge and climbed a place into fifth. Fifth place however is not enough to escape relegation yet. Anyone of four teams could go down. DC LFC missed the chance to escape the threat when they lost 41-40 to rivals Cornballers. Wijnaldum beat second-placed AFC Chester to remain in the battle, but will be going back down to League Two if it all goes wrong on Sunday.
AFC Chester, already guaranteed promotion and a Champions League place, need only a point this weekend to secure second place. They will be playing Branwellington who need to win and hope that KH Granitza Sting lose to snatch third place on the final day. Jamin’s team will also need to overturn a very slight deficit of four matchpoints. KHGS will of course have their eyes not just on promotion, but on second place. The runner-up spot is now within their reach after their big win over promotion rivals Branwellington. The last game of the season may upset the status quo. AFC Chester will outrank Branwellington, but we won’t know whether KH finishes 2nd, 3rd or 4th until Sunday evening.
League Two
There may have only been three teams who scored less, but a low-scoring win is still a win. Route 57’s 41-35 victory over Harambe Hotspur gives them the record for most League Points in a season, passing the old record of 88 set by All Star Gunners in their first season, in 2016.
Wins for Sugar Daddies and Tiger Tail guarantee them entry into next season’s Europa League. Cabezazo won with the second-highest score of the week (KH Grantiza scored 69) and put themselves in pole position for the Best-ish prize pot and their name in the history books. Finally, the Globes are now just a point behind Harambe after a win over promoted Hung LAB.
