Game #5,000

Ladies and Gentlemen, this weekend will see the BFFA host its 5,000th game!
The BFFA has hosted 26 Leagues, 5 Champions Leagues, 8 BFFA Cups and will have its first Super Cup later this season. We have had 75 teams competing across seven seasons, scoring over 395,000 matchpoints and, so far, 17 different teams have been crowned Champions.

The 5,000th Game

There have been 4,987 matches up to this point. Reading down the fixture list, division by division (and alphabetically within), the golden game will be: Gloopy Yarbles versus Goleta Hotspur.

Gloopy Yarbles joined the BFFA in 2017. They came Third in League Two in their first season and were promoted to League One. The following season they played in the Champions League and came third in the Group of Death. All four sides had three wins and three losses. The Yarbles missed out on the Champions League Quarter-Finals by a matter of total matchpoints, but they did qualify for the Intramural League and made it as far as the Semi-Finals before losing to eventual winners FC Santa Barbara.
This match will be Gloopy’s 150th. They have won 81 of those and have never had a draw.

Goleta Hotspur are one of the nine legends that have featured in every season. They finished 6th in the DRF in our inaugural season and were one of the ten teams that formed the first Premier League. In 2018 they made the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League after topping their Group, where they went out to the team that won the tournament, All Star Gunners.
This will be Goleta’s 261st match. Their all-time record is W109, D6, L146 and they are just 116 fantasy points shy of hitting 10,000.

The two teams played each other for the first time in the sixth week of this season. Goleta walked out winners without even scoring a goal in the game. Four assists (two from Danny Ings) and a Hugo Lloris clean sheet away at Burnley was enough to out-muscle Gloopy Yarbles 34-29, despite goals from Phil Foden and Raul Jimenez for the home team at Orange Stadium. Goleta climbed a place to fourth that week and Gloopy dropped a place to second.

Nine matches later, the two met again at Goleta’s Hollister Avenue and the game had a very similar outcome. Goleta won 33-29 with both teams scoring a goal apiece; Anwar El Ghazi scoring against Palace for Goleta and Bruno Fernandes giving United a brief lead against Leicester for Yarbles. Hotspur managed to claim one assist more and one yellow card less than the Yarbles and won by four. Hotspur remained third and the Yarbles fourth, and there they remained until two weeks ago when Gloopy won 61-30 and leapfrogged them into the promotion places.

Gloopy Yarbles are currently third in League One, three points ahead of Goleta Hotspur but twelve points behind second. In the Best-ish table there is a wide gap between the pair; Gloopy are 4th and could still fight for the title while Goleta are 28th, 200FPts below their rivals. But that doesn’t matter here. With both teams fighting for third place and promotion to the Championship, the Association’s 5,000th game is going to be a real six-pointer!
