Welcome to the Europa League!
We have eight teams, two from each League, who will play-off for an entry into next year’s Champions League.
They will also be joined by four teams dropping out of this season’s Champions League (teams TBC), but for now, here are the results from the First Round, First Leg.
Kicking off the new tournament, League Two’s Hung Like A Bony hit 57 against Premier League’s The Money Team. Jesse Thompson’s team are riding high in the top flight, but Carl Drewett’s lower-league outfit are currently sixth in the Best-ish standings.
Mourinho-lo, struggling in League Two, have a mountain to climb to match FC Santa Barbara, who also glided past 50. Santa Barbara also netted over 50 the previous week and look like a dead cert to be in the next round against either Relic FC or East Loop United.
Amazingly, Banana Swans beat their Europa League opponents Wijnaldum Leviosa by the exact same score as their League match against GoFYS this week, 55-40, giving them a 15-point advantage going into the second leg. Leviosa, however, are the stronger team on paper; they have outscored the Swans by 44 matchpoints since the season started. Is 15 points too much to come back from?
Finally, there was one tight game in the first week. Fifth-placed (League One) Yer Man beat second-placed (Championship) Boss’ Blues by just 3 to set up an exciting rematch next week. Again, the losing team have the better position in the Best-ish standings so this could go either way.
