The Quarter-Finals kicked up a couple of surprises this week.
Since their promotion to League One, Gloopy Yarbles have been struggling this season. They are currently in the drop-zone while Hung Like A Bony are enjoying life at the top end of League Two, level on points with Cabezazo and Route 57. Despite their poor scoring in the opening third of the season, Gloopy outscored Hung two weeks running and put themselves into the Final Four to play FC Santa Barbara.
The closest game of the first leg saw East Loop United taking a three-point lead into the return leg. Unfortunately for them their luck didn’t hold out and FC Santa Barbara took the opportunity to turn the game around. FCSB drew in their League match against Smash & Grab with 45, but it was more than enough to win the Quarter-FInal. They face Gloopy Yarbles next.
The last time these two met (the only time that they’ve met) Gloopy Yarbles beat FC Santa Barbara 40-33 in the Second Round of the BFFA Cup last season.
In a similar result to the FCSB game, Yer Man beat Gene’s Unicorn Reserves after losing the first match. However, in this instance it was not enough to overcome the deficit. The Unicorns won the fixture by just two matchpoints and squeeze into the Semis.
Contrastingly, Chucky Pad Warriors won their fixture against Banana Swans by a landslide, and you don’t see many landslides at a swamp! They won both games convincingly despite having the lowest winning score of the round.
Chucky Pad Warriors now play Gene’s Unicorn Reserves for a place in the Final. Both teams finished third in their Leagues last season and since the latter was promoted from the Championship they’ve played each other twice, including the League match this week. Chucky have won both games – 42-31 in Week 3 and 39-33 this week.
I hope you find ways to amuse yourselves during the international break. The Semi-Finals begin with six games kicking off at 3pm GMT on Saturday 24th November. Thanks for reading.
