Clinched with one game to go

Breaking News

Not breaking news, but… As we go into the final match of the final Gameweek of the regular season – a quick post to say who’s got what, and who’s on the cusp.
Not really news anymore, but here’s a preview before tomorrow’s wrap-up 🙂

Clinched:

Champions (2/4):
AFC Chester – League One
Real Bastardos – League Two

Promoted (4/6):
Housewives Favourite – Championship
AFC Chester – League One
Real Bastardos – League Two
Whiskey de Bruyne – League Two

Qualified for the Champions League (12/16):
AFC Chester (L1), Atletico Topo Chico (L1), Barons FC (Prem), De Bruyne Trousers (L2), Gloopy Yarbles (CL Winners), Housewives Favourite (Champ), Hung Like a Bony (Champ), Klopps and Robbers (L1), Mighty Fine Feeling (Prem), Real Bastardos (L2), The El Dude Brothers (Champ), Whiskey de Bruyne (L2).

👏👏👏

To be Decided:

Champions (2 to come):
Premier League: Could be won by one of four(!) teams tonight. Mighty Fine Feeling lead the way with the most league points and the most matchpoints in the top flight. If they draw or lose this week though, Barons FC could step over them to take the title. Third- and fourth-placed Smash & Grab and Sporting Wicker Park are just a win behind the top two. SWP will climb up into the top three with a win over Barons, but are unlikely to outscore MFF overall.
Championship: The second tier is a little more clean cut, just a question of dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. Housewives Favourite are a win and 62 fantasy points clear at the top. They are also already +52 FPts better off this week with four players to come, but are locked in a close-run match against the mighty Webuiltthis City that will go on until the final whistle.

Promoted (2 to come):
Championship: The El Dude Brothers will get their promotion at midnight tonight despite (currently) losing to third-placed Gloopy Yarbles, unless the Champions League Champions can somehow collect 140 fantasy points from the five players they have taking to the field tonight.
League One: High drama in the third tier will be brought to you by Klopps and Robbers needing a win over the Champions AFC Chester to guarantee the Runners-Up spot. But if they drop points today, Atletico Topo Chico could exchange their play-off place for automatic promotion.

Qualified for the Champions League (4 to qualify):
Two will come from the Premier League. They will be two of: Smash & Grab, Sporting Wicker Park and We have Kompany. The three are split by just one league point. S&G are expected to qualify, but relegated teams have a habit of becoming dangerous in the final weeks against teams still fighting for something. So if Vanishing Spray win this week, then SWP and WhK could climb over Smash and regain the top four places.

The other two places will be fought over by four teams in the postseason. One of them will definitely be the newest team to the BFFA – Draft Day entrants CG XI, who cannot move up or down from fourth place.
League One’s CLQ will be one of three – Fergi Time (57pts), BattleVAR Galatico (55pts) or East Loop United (54pts & best FPts of the three).

The other two CLQ teams will be reserves filling in for the Champions League Champions and the BFFA Cup Winners who will finish in top three places tonight. So the two reserves will be the two best-scoring teams that have yet to make the list above. Going into this gameweek, Peltier and All Star Gunners have a good lead in the Best-ish rankings, but We have Kompany and Boss are also within reach of earning a place in the qualifiers. Should either Smash & Grab or Sporting Wicker Park fail to finish in the top four, they too will be in the race for a reserve spot.

The Intramural League

The BFFA’s equivalent of the Europa League will be reduced from 12 teams to 8 next season. There will only be four clubs qualifying from this season (to join the four teams that drop down from the Champions League), and these four teams will be one from each league (instead of two).

This postseason, each league will host an IML Qualifying tourney. The teams finishing 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th (unless they are in consideration for the Champions League) will play in a small knockout for those four places.

In the Premier League IMLQ’s will be: Boss, Route 57 FC, Wijnaldum Leviosa and whoever finishes fifth.
Championship IMLQ’s: All Star Gunners, GoFys FC, StillluvQPR, Webuiltthis City
League One: Peltier, plus 5th, 6th & 8th. It’s complicated.
League Two: Conte’s Cockerels, Goleta Hotspur, Harambe Hotspur Orewa Ostriches

The English Premier League

And finally, we are down to two teams playing for the final promotion place – Luton Town and Coventry City – who will be playing at Wembley on Saturday 27th May 2023 in the richest game in world football!
