It was the penultimate game-weekend of the Group Stage. Played five, one to go.
Four teams have qualified for the Quarter-Finals. That’s one from Groups A & C and both slots filled from Group D. For the group winners: a runner-up in the next round. For the teams that fail to qualify: 3rd place sends them into another (lesser) tournament, and the last-placed team will get nothing more here.
For Peltier, a two-point win not only kept them top of the group, but also put them far enough ahead of the rest to secure a place in the next round as Group Winners. There, they will play one of three teams, which one will be decided next week. A huge score for Route 57 made them top pointscorers at this stage and second-placed, however, they will need a win against Peltier (or a complicated double-draw scenario) next weekend to see off the other two. It’s a three-way battle, one place left to claim.
Group B has been a colourful affair throughout. Two draws for the unfortunate Housewives Favourite crippled their campaign but shook up the rest of the group too, hindering Fergi Time and Hung like a Bony along the way. This week Fergi Time overcame the frustration of dropping two points, by winning three and claiming top spot. In order keep that place, they have one more game and it is against Hung, whom they thrashed 50-13 in GW6.
Chicken and Bane San finally got their first win in a low-scoring affair, meaning that they still have an outside chance of doing enough to take the consolation prize of an IML Quarter-Final match. Sporting Wicker Park, who look the more likely to take that invite, can still see an open window into the CL QF’s – if they can beat C&BS next weekend AND Kompany lose to Boss AND there’s a 28-point FP swing, then the CL title is stilla possibility. WhK however beat Boss the last two times they played, and a win next weekend will give them the group and the better QF draw.
Group D has officially been split in twain. We know which two will be going through and which two will be going out. With Gloopy getting revenge on MFF, a 9-point chasm opened up between they and the other pair. ATC and Wijnaldum drift away with only three points each, having taken one win from each other, but will decide next week who gets to continue in the IML, and who goes no further.
