2021 CL Results – Matchday 4

StarGoal CL Header

Four down, two to go.
Six points are still available to each team, which means that it’s still all to play for.

The Money Team do the double over Premier League rivals Smash & Grab, and Webuiltthis City perform the same feat over their Championship opposition Barons FC. The other six matchups saw a turnaround in fortune. The El Dude Brothers got the win they needed to keep Group A all-square and set up a big match against The Money Team, whom they beat by just one point two weeks ago. Route 57 got on the board with a win over fellow strugglers Ole’s at the Wheel, but StilluvQPR beat AFC Chester by just two points, denying them an early celebration and putting the bottom two on notice.

The lowest-scoring match of the tournament so far saw ASG regain second place in Group C and a one-point advantage over GoFys. Web City moved up to ten points and would qualify in first place if they win against ASG, whom they drew with last time out. In Group D all four teams remained in the same position for the fourth week running as both MFF and Gloopy Yarbles got revenge wins over their previous opponents, much glory for the latter as they collect their first-ever win over Drafty at the sixth attempt.

All four groups have very different shapes after four matchdays. Group A is all tied up on six points, and only 20 FPts between top and bottom. This guarantees us that nothing will be decided there until the sixth and final matchday is completed. Group B looks like it’s close to being resolved unless either of the top two lose both remaining games and either of the bottom two win both.

Group C is the first to see a team fall out of reach of the Quarter-Finals, though if Barons win their next two games then they could still qualify for the Intramural League. Finally, Group D has the most potential for change, still with three of the top six scoring teams competing; each team are primed to rise and fall with each subsequent game, and at the mercy of other results too.

Top two go through to the QF’s; Third Place joins the Intramural League.

The Intramural League begins in the next Gameweek. Eight teams in a knockout format. When the first four are knocked out, they will be replaced by the four teams that finish the CL Group Stage in Third Place. Then it’s a straight knockout to the secondary title.
Details about the IML will be published here later this week.
