2021 CL Results – Matchday 3

The first round robin is complete.
How much will the next three games change the tables?

After three games, AFC Chester and Drafty top their Leagues with nine points. The Championship leaders beat stilluvQPR for the second time in two weeks, narrowly scraping a win out of the Champions League tie after thrashing the Wisconsin side last week. Similarly, Webuiltthis City beat Barons FC comfortably last week, albeit with a much lower score, and managed to take a group stage win over them this week too.

Drafty, top of the Best-ish table, recorded their lowest score of the season so far (with 45!), but still chalked up wins in both the Premier League and the CL too. Their unfortunate victims were the Championship’s Gloopy Yarbles, the side that Drafty have beaten twice in the BFFA Cup, including last season’s Final, and twice before in a previous edition of the Champions League. In the 2018 CL, Bigger than Brolin beat Gloopy Yarbles twice in the Group Stage and qualified for the QF’s by a fantasy points tiebreaker, as all four teams in the group finished on three wins-three losses; Gloopy Yarbles finished third in the group. Gloopy are now 0-5 against Drafty, but will have another go at them next week.

League One leaders Housewives Favourite, currently just one fantasy point behind Drafty in the Best-ish challenge, suffered their first loss of the season last week, losing 60-57 to Drafty, but bounced back with the top score of the week against the Premier League’s second-placed team, Mighty Fine Feeling. This result leaves MFF a win and twenty-one fantasy points behind Wives’ Fave. But in such a high-scoring group, anything is possible. Currently, the top three in Group D have all got more FPts than the rest of the Champions League hopefuls, with the exception of AFC Chester.

In other news, The Money Team also got their first win of the tournament against perennial opponents Smash & Grab in a heroic League-and-CL double-header against the Premier League Champions. In their (30th and) 31st meeting, Money got some points on the board and moved off the bottom of Group A. In the other match, SB Town got a big win in their first game against The El Dude Bros and moved to the top of the tightest group.

Ole’s at the Wheel got their first Champions League win at the third attempt to keep their Quarter-Final hopes alive. GoFys (currently ranked #39) got their 20th CL win, the second-most of all, against All Star Gunners, who have more than anyone else (25). That victory moves GoFys above ASG into second and primes them for a move to the next round.

Next weekend, the fixtures reverse and swift vengeance is on the cards, somewhere.

Top two go through to the QF’s; Third Place joins the Intramural League.
