Champions League – Quarter-Finals, 2nd Leg

Quarter-Finals – Results

In what looks like a very simple, very boring (more boring than usual!) write-up, all the teams that won in the first leg also won their second leg matches. Not only that, but both Group A teams knocked out both Group B teams, and the Group C sides did the double over the two Group D teams. This of course means that there’s a 50-50 chance of a CL rematch in the Final. Watch this space.

Holders Mighty Fine Feeling knocked out Premier League Bigger Than Brolin, but the underdogs did come closer in the second leg. Similarly, AC Reykjavik BayCobblers defeated Smash & Grab for the second week running, and again the losing side lost by less the second time of asking. If only this was best of five, eh? Rey.B.C., who also beat Bigger Than Brolin this week in the League, last played in a Semi-Final way back in April 2015, losing to the eventual Cup winners SB Town UAOB. The last time MFF were in a Semi-Final was just last December when they narrowly beat Smash & Grab over two legs.

All Star Gunners are still challenging the top two in the Championship and have now beaten Goleta Hotspur three times this season. They will meet again in the League in three weeks time. ASG also beat PSV this week in the League. It has definitely been a champagne weekend for them as we break for the internationals. PSV suffered an opposite fate, deservedly receiving League and CL defeats on the weekend just gone. Tralfamadore Zoo, however, continue to show their class by passing 50 for the second week running.

We have two very exciting Semi-Finals in the Champions League this year. Two very close match-ups with very little between each pairing. Weapons at the ready…

Mighty Fine Feeling -v- Tralfamadore Zoo
Two giants of the modern game meet for the first time at The Mosh Pit looking for another place in another Final. Both teams lifted trophies not once but twice last season! This season these two sides have had very similar success. They are both currently top of their Leagues, they are second and third in the Best-ish Table and they have almost identical records – MFF are W9 D0 L3 in the Championship and W7 D0 L1 in the CL; The Zoo are W9 D1 L2 in League One and W6 D1 L1 in the CL. With average scores of 52 and 50, this promises to be a very close, high-scoring match-up.

A.C. Reykjavik BayCobblers -v- All Star Gunners
ASG will next travel to play RBC in Gameweek 13 and the return leg will be the following week. The BayCobblers will start the week ranked 19th in the Best-ish Rankings and the Gunners will start in 21st position, only four matchpoints below them!
These two teams have gone head-to-head six times in their history. The first two matches were in the CL Group Stages in 2016. RBC won the first game 38-29 and ASG won the second 51-49. Both teams were knocked out at the Group Stage, where they shared a Group with eventual CL winners SB Town UAOB.
Last season, both teams played in the Championship. Reykjavik won the League by seven points; All Star Gunners finished fourth. They played each other four times, alternating wins. Overall, both teams have won this fixture three times; ASG scored marginally better, again by only four matchpoints, 282-278!

The first leg begins on Saturday 24th November and finishes on Monday 26th with Burnley -v- Newcastle, two teams struggling for goals this season.
