2022 BFFA Cup – The Final

BFFA Cup 2020

The El Dude Brothers #3 -v- Jaysokker #18

Gameweek 38 – Sunday 22nd May; 4:00pm

Final gameweek, no replays, no take-backs. This was all-or-nothing fantasy football.

The El Dude Brothers

Jaysokker

Jon Proudfoot set up an attacking 3-4-3 formation with The El Dude Bros this week, with a strong front line of Lukaku, Toney and Wilson. Raya was kept back on the bench whilst he faced an all-guns-blazing Leeds alongside Trippier who faced a similar threat from relegation-bound Burnley.

Jordan Higgs went for a more defensive 4-5-1 Jaysokker looking for clean sheets against Southampton, Norwich, Wolves and Arsenal. In-form Calvert-Lewin was left alone up front whilst Ayew and Ings were benched for their tough games against United and City.

Kick-off:
Both sides kicked off missing only one player from a treacherous Gameweek 38 selection. £97.5m-Lukaku was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s starting line-up and Seamus Coleman was overlooked by Frank Lampard. Both players were available on the bench.
The El Dude Brothers 10-10 Jaysokker

3′
The first action of the Cup Final was a surprise opening goal for Wolves against Liverpool, just under three minutes into the game. As Neto’s shot hit the back of the net it sent shockwaves through the football-watching world. Matip would not pick up four clean sheet points today; Jaysokker played on.

16′
Tottenham Hotspur had to defend their fourth place with a win over bottom-of-the-league Norwich City. Seeing a very favourable match-up, both sides invested in Spurs players and it was Jaysokker that benefitted first. Bentancur assisted Kulusevski early in the second half and gave Jaysokker a head start.
The El Dude Brothers 10 – 13 Jaysokker

20′
I’m still scratching my head about this one. For some reason, Burnley’s Nathan Collins, supposedly under the immense pressure of looming relegation, tipped the ball away from the head of Sean Longstaff with his (less-than-subtle) fist and Craig Pawson gave Newcastle the penalty. Callum Wilson stepped up and puts the ball away from 12 yards for his first goal since his return from injury.
The El Dude Brothers 14 – 13 Jaysokker

23′
Alex Iwobi heads the ball away, but it only goes as far as Gabriel Martinelli near the edge of the box. Martinelli volleys the ball goalwards and the shot is deflected away by Iwobi’s arm. Arsenal appeal, VAR ask Andre Marriner to review it and the penalty is given. Four minutes later, it’s Martinelli at the spot and he puts it away low-right.
The El Dude Brothers 19 – 13 Jaysokker

31′
Four minutes after that penalty, Arsenal win a cheeky corner. Saka crosses it in and Martinelli flicks the ball on. Eddie Nketiah ducks forward and heads it home; Bros earn another three.
The El Dude Brothers 22 – 13 Jaysokker

32′
Despite being on the back foot, Norwich tried to calmly play around at the back. Krul plays a heavy ball towards an unsuspecting Normann, but it’s intercepted by Bentancur once again and then it’s quickly lifted in to Kane, unmarked in the centre, and he heads home for 2-0.
The El Dude Brothers 22 – 16 Jaysokker

37′
Liverpool have equalised and City are again just one point clear at the top, until… until Lucas Digne picks up a pass down the left and crosses it in to whoever wants it. Matty Cash jogs forward and beats Cancelo to the ball. He heads it past the ‘keeper and Stones, de Bruyne and Foden dejectedly walk back to their positions for the restart.

45+3′
Right at the end of the first half, Calvert-Lewin assists Donny van de Beek. Everton are back in the game and so are Jaysokker. And as an added bonus, no clean sheet for Aaron Ramsdale between the El Dude sticks.
Half-Time: The El Dude Brothers 22 – 19 Jaysokker

46′
Mere seconds after the restart Matip brings down an opponent and sees yellow. Too keen.
The El Dude Brothers 22 – 18 Jaysokker

60′
Newcastle go on the attack again, 3-on-3. ASM crosses it to the centre of the box where Wilson, left completely alone, accepts the gift and passes it past Pope. Toon making it look easy and EDB are comfortably up by eight.
The El Dude Brothers 26 – 18 Jaysokker

61′
The 60-Minute Update kicks in. Both teams still have ten men on the pitch, picking up an extra point each, and the clean sheet points are prospectively added. Reece James and Ryan Sessegnon add four each for Bros, while Jaysokker step up with Schmeichel, Castagne and Dier, plus Bentancur, Mount and Ramsey. From eight down, Jaysokker are now only one behind.
The El Dude Brothers 44 – 43 Jaysokker

69′
Sweden’s #1 Robin Olsen is making his first appearance for his new club and is having an outstanding debut so far. He nearly had an assist with a long ball forward to Watkins and not long afterwards he found Watkins again with another hoof forward. Watkins heads it on, Coutinho takes a touch and puts Villa two goals up. Stones loses a point and it’s all-square in the Final again!
Castagne comes off for Ricardo Pereira with Leicester already 2-0 up. His clean sheet is guaranteed.
At Turf Moor, Burnley are not giving up. Collins got away from Saint-Maximin and crossed it onto the penalty spot. Cornet met it in the centre, Dubravka parried his shot up and over Brownhill, but it fell onto Cornet’s left boot and he volleyed it home. Trippier, waiting on EDB’s bench would not be making much impact after that.
The El Dude Brothers 43 – 43 Jaysokker

76′
We’d not long ago mentioned that Ramsey had a cheeky midfielder CS point against City, well that was taken away in the 76th when Gundogan rose up at the back post to pull one back for the Champions.
The El Dude Brothers 43 – 42 Jaysokker

78′
Tielemans crops Stuart Armstrong in the box. Penalty for Southampton…

79′
Toney picks up a yellow card just seconds after teammate Canos scored and was also booked.
At the King Power, James Ward-Prowse converts from the spot; Schmeichel loses his clean sheet. Southampton are desperate for the ball back; Kasper refuses to give it up, smiling. Just watch those eyebrows!
The El Dude Brothers 42 – 38 Jaysokker

81′
Man City are pressing for a third. Kevin de Bruyne picks up a loose ball on the edge of the box. He skips past two and rolls it hopefully into the six-yard box and Gundogan meets it at the back post. The Etihad erupts, some annoying girl screams into the pitchside microphone as the cameras shake and El Dude Brothers increase their lead to seven. But Liverpool are still laying on the pressure at Anfield.
Meanwhile at Stamford Bridge, Dan Gosling comes on for Edo Kayembe.
The El Dude Brothers 45 – 38 Jaysokker

84′
City are winning and Liverpool are still stuck at 1-1. Matip goes forward again and is the first to meet a corner kick. Raul Jimenez literally puts his body on the line and blocks the headed shot; there’s a question about whether or not the ball crossed the line but Matip continues and heads it goalward again, Salah turns the ball in and Liverpool are ahead with six-and-a-half minutes to go. Jaysokker are back to up 41, although it could’ve been more. However, back at the Etihad, Danny Ings is coming on for Villa & Jaysokker and they would both would love to find an equaliser…
The El Dude Brothers 45 – 41 Jaysokker

87′
There hadn’t been much noise coming out of Stamford Bridge, apart from the occasional ripples of “Que Sera Sera”, but while Chelsea seemed comfortable sitting on their 1-0 lead, Watford kept attacking and three minutes from time, Mesina floated a cross into the back post, the Chelsea defenders left it alone, but Dan Gosling was on to it behind them, he stormed in and scored his first goal this season. The goal cost EDB a defensive clean sheet and cost Jaysokker a midfielder clean sheet. The three point swing brought Jordan’s men back to just one point behind with injury time fast approaching.
The El Dude Brothers 41 – 40 Jaysokker

90′
A frustrated Bruno Fernandes picks up his tenth booking of the season; set Jaysokker back by one.
The El Dude Brothers 41 – 39 Jaysokker

90+1′
Chelsea, not keen on finishing with a draw at home, pushed on. Havertz and James exchanged passes in the right corner, James crossed it in to Ross Barkley who put the ball back across the goal and it gently bounced in, kindly watched over the line by Havertz at the back stick. Had Havertz fancied a touch, Barkley would’ve have had the assist, but as it was James was able to recover those three points and that was the last action of the season. So it goes.
At the Full-Time whistle: The El Dude Brothers 44 – 39 Jaysokker
