BFFA Cup – Third Round Results

BFFA Cup 2020

After a long delay, all the results have come in for the BFFA Cup Third Round.

It seems like a long time since Vardy and Harvey Barnes put four past Villa, but those gameweek 29 games are back in the news with some results.

Chitown Gooners (NL) 38 – 45 Obi-Wan Bissaka (L2)
After two successive wins in their first BFFA Cup campaign, Chitown Gooners went up against high-flying Obi-Wan Bissaka. Obi-Wan, who moved up into first place in League Two this week, also made the Quarter-Finals last year and are starting to show their pedigree as Cup contenders.

Chucky Pad Warriors (Champ) 40 – 41 Boss (Prem)
The closest tie of the Round saw Nathan Fogg’s men battle bravely to give their season meaning, but in the end the couldn’t overcome the League’s 4th-best scoring team of the season. Boss, who had knocked out this season’s Best-ish winners, 54-38 in the last round, came out looking for revenge against a CPW side that had knocked them out last year. Revenge was had and Boss go through to their second BFFA Cup Quarter-Final.

Cumberland FC (NL) 55 – 53 stilluvQPR (L1)
There was only one match in this Round this year that scored over 100mpts combined and it was decided by only two. Once again, the Third Round was the end of the road for stilluvQPR, who met a very hard-to-beat Cumberland FC. Cumberland finished their first season second in the National League, third in the Best-ish rankings and have made the final eight in the Cup too. Could they yet make it to the Final Four?!

FC Santa Barbara (Prem) 39 – 36 Voyageurs (Champ)
These two have crossed paths a few times in the last three seasons. Their first meeting was also in the BFFA Cup, in the 1st Round in 2017. After a 37-37 draw, FCSB won the replay 41-28. Two years later they met in the IML Final where FCSB triumphed again, 37-34. This year, they won through by 3 points again and make it to their third BFFA Cup QF.

Gloopy Yarbles (L2) 33 – 38 Bigger than Brolin (Prem)
Last season, these teams shared a group in the Champions League. All four teams in Group B won three and lost three; BtB beat the Yarbles in both meetings – 59-51 & 49-43. Brolin went through, Gloopy didn’t make the cut.
The last time that Bigger than Brolin got past the Second Round in the Cup, they went on to win it, in 2017. Unfortunately, Gloopy Yarbles will have to wait until next year to try to make the Quarter-Finals.

Route 57 FC (L1) 25 – 38 BattleVAR Galactico (L2)
The Oxfordshire outfit Route 57 are still dreaming of the Quarter-Finals as they were politely shown the door by another rookie team, BattleVAR Galáctico. Route 57 were just starting to find out what it was like to have a Cup run, having not won a tie in the previous two seasons, but couldn’t take it any further than here this season.
BattleVAR Galáctico will go into the next round as the lowest-ranked team of the eight, but having knocked out three League One teams in a row, they may fancy their chances if they’re drawn against either of the remaining two L1 teams in the Quarters!

Slab Head FC (NL) 30 – 65 Hung Like a Bony (L1)
Slab Head FC have had a difficult first season in the League, and the fates didn’t give them much luck by putting them up against a top 10 ranked team here. Hung Like A Bony, 2nd in League One and on a 5-game winning streak were looking up at the stars, and simply outclassed the rookie club.
Strangely, having been knocked out of the BFFA Cup by Wijnaldum Leviosa in both the previous years, Hung LAB were drawn against and beat the side that knocked Wij out of the Cup this year! Hung scored the highest total of the Cup so far and might fancy their chances of going all the way.

Webuiltthis City (L1) 42 – 33 Mighty fine feeling (Prem)
These two teams had very opposite fortunes last season. After sharing a League for three years in a row, last year MFF went up from the Championship and Web City went down. Web City lost all four League games to MFF last term. However, they also met in the Cup and Web City came through, 49-38.
In a case of deja-vu, it happened again this year. City, on a winning streak and dreaming of making a return to the Semi-Finals, managed 42 matchpoints (thanks to four clean sheets and nothing exciting), while MFF failed to come close to the 54 points they registered this time last year.

Unfortunately, the season was abandoned on RealFF and the Cup was finished prematurely without a winner. The results were recorded, but the tournament will not be completed.
