EYE-CATCHING!
–PREM: Many upsets. Of the top four, only Bigo1 prevailed, and in so doing extended its impressive lead at the top. Nine points separate first from second, nine separate second and eighth. Smash beat Sporting 64-41, Chucky defeated East Loop in a tight 50-48, Vanishing killed off Santa Barbara with a 51-33. GoFYS very nearly clawed back SB Town but for the want of 2 points. Once again, fifth through eighth could very easily change next week, with Chucky, Smash, SB Town and the Spray separated by a mere two points. The Money Team lurks close by, just 4 points from safety, GoFYS mired 10 points back after a recent good run. The relegation fight portends to be inevitable, ugly and vicious.
-CHAMP: BayCobblers and Gene won, but Bigger than Brolin dropped points in its 41-49 loss to Goleta Hotspur, meaning BC leads the tier by 6, with Brolin and Gene level on 48 points. Banana Swans thwacked down a hefty 69 (weekly joint top score with BayCobblers) to take fourth, and Boss beat Branwellington go level with the Well on 31. Hotspur and ASG hover within three points of safety and a win coupled with strategic losses from teams above could catapult either to sixth. Tuffer than tuff, tighter than tight. Expect some relegation-deciding matches in the coming weeks. For Cornballers, however, it’s looking rough, with less than half the league points of ninth place.
–LEAGUE 1: The top four line up single-file, each within three points of top spot, still occupied by Richmond Kickers’ favorite son AFC Chester despite the 36-59 loss to Relic. So, with Relic within one point of Chester at the summit, followed by PSV and Wijnaldum progressively a point back from one another, we have a ginuwine title race, folks. Old Sexpats sprung an upset on MFF in fifth, though Feeling looks safe from an imminent relegation fight and still has a shot at the top three. Or even top spot. Yer Man, too, while we’re at it. Only eight points separate first and sixth.
–LEAGUE 2: Tralfamadore won, but fellow top three stalwarts DC LFC and Yarbles lost, meaning The Zoo just took a huge step towards taking this tier, eight points ahead of DC. The distance between third and fourth still represents a daunting 14-point chasm. Mourinho, Route 57, Globes and Bony all cluster mid-table within a point of one another. Glentoran’s win over DC gives it a chance now of climbing out of ninth, three points behind Tapped Up.
