EYE-CATCHING!
–PREM: Bigo1 and Sporting Wicker both won, but East Loop lost to FC Santa Barbara by a point to lose Prem primacy. Bigo1 now takes top spot, level with Wicker on points but with a sizable overall points difference over the whole tier. The cream hath risen to the top, with overall points as its witness. Santa Barbara rides the three points over Loop to fourth, very likely not caring the least about a win being anything other than a win. Chucky Pad also won and remains close behind, fortunate to come up against the week’s lowest earner, Money. Continuing its rise, SB Town Baggers beat Smash & Grab in the week’s highest scoring duel, 66-56, to not only claw Grab back from fourth to sixth but also drop Vanishing into the morass of the relegation spots. SB has now positioned itself just a point behind Smash in seventh. Vanishing lost in the next highest-scoring match, a bloody 57-61 against Bigo1. Seven points separate first and seventh; 13 separate first and ninth. With such fine margins, rotation and festive schedule injuries could send the henhouse into uproar.
–CHAMPIONSHIP: Reykjavik BayCobblers kept the pace fast and furious at the front, even throwing in a craftily timed low ball in a nervy 35-33 win over Cornballers. In the battle for second, Gene’s Unicorn Reserves lost to Banana Swans, and Bigger than Brolin defeated Granitza Sting in a heavyweight 65-60 clash. The two continue to duke it out, level on points, with Gene currently ahead by a nose/snout/horn. The win puts Swans in fourth, Granitza a point behind and sixth through ninth locked in heated negotiations over who most refuses to reside in the relegation zone. Branwellington beat Boss handily, while Goleta Hotspur turned in the week’s second-highest score in its 64-56 over All Star Gunners. With the win, Branwellington moves ahead of ASG in the table, ASG ninth despite comfortably having the second-highest overall points of the tier. It’s genuinely sort of insane.
–LEAGUE 1: In the big news of the week, Chester toppled Relic 59-49, though Relic still remains first. PSV translated a tepid 39-31 victory over Old Sexpats into a neck-and-neck proposition in which the team once again trails Relic by just a point. Wijnaldum lost to Yer Man, elsewise the Leviosans would currently occupy top spot. It is unknown whether the club wished a pox on the Man for foiling its best-laid plans. Mighty Fine Feeling struck a blow in its victory over StillluvQPR to leapfrog the latter in the table and regain top five, just 6 puts off the top. Yer Man’s victory puts extra pressure on the bottom three, with the gap to safety now 9 for Fourth Place and 10 for Tiger Tail. Old Sexpats is really starting to look in rather a spot of bother.
–LEAGUE 2: Tralfamadore returned to winning ways against Mourinho-LO in fourth, and both stood back as second and third took swings at another in a second vs. third throwdown. DC LFC emerged from the victory the least scathed, but just fractionally. However, the 58-57 scoreline will be certain to sting for Gloopy Yarbles. While the top five remains the same, important happenings were afoot in the bottom half. Route 57 decimated Tapped Up with more than triple the opponent’s score and used the three points to slide ahead of TU into sixth. In ninth and tenth, Hung Like a Bony and Gadagdome notched important wins over Glentoran and Globes respectively. Bony sits just a point behind Glentoran now, stymying Glentoran’s own potential exit from the bottom three.
Don’t forget to check out the Best-ish standings. It’s fun. And worth a cool $100.
