BFFA Cup – Round Two Results

By Jon Starmer

Ladies and gentlemen, your Cup results are in!
The story of the Round is that current holders Bigger Than Brolin have been knocked out by League leaders AC Reykjavik BayCobblers. AC Rey stormed through to the Third Round with the highest score of the week – 69. There’s no shame in losing to a team that strong!
* Tenuous link of the week * – the only team still in the BFFA that Bigger Than Brolin knocked out in their cup run last season – Banana Swans – also scored 69 and put their name in the hat for the next round, beating The Guv’nor and knocking out a Premiership team.
Six Premiership teams remain. Sporting Wicker Park and FC Santa Barbara were also disposed of by underdogs Wijnaldum Leviosa and high-scoring Gloopy Yarbles respectively. Two Championship teams were shown the door by lower-league opposition. Branwellington FC were soundly beaten by Best-ish equals Yer Man and K.H. Granitza Sting FC were edged out by a single point to the resurgent 4th Place Trophy.
Avoiding a cupset (or rather causing one if you prefer to read form) Chunky Pad Warriors saw out League Two’s Mourinho-LO, also by just one point. That’s your Kante points at work people. Championship Boss Barkley were saved from embarrassment against Top-10 DC LFC who have been scoring well this season. The Bosses won comfortably and go through. Top-flight Smash & Grab also breathe a sigh of relief and wipe the sweat from their brow after knocking out another Top-10, lower-league side. PSV were the third-highest scoring losers this week with 50 matchpoints. The other two losers scoring 50+ were Vanishing Spray (51) and Route 57 (54) who lost to league rivals (and league leaders) Tramfamadore Zoo.
In the other fixture featuring two League rivals, second-top Relic FC swept past second-bottom Tiger Tail Retaliation to join Mighty Fine Feeling and the other three League One sides in the next round.
Finally, the Premier League’s GoFYS FC, East Loop United FC and the glory-hunters’ favourite SB Town Baggers all made it past lower-league opposition to fight another day. Best-ish #30 (GoFYS FC) saw off #20 (🦄🦄🦄), #10 (EL Utd) knocked out #8 (AFC Chester) and SB Town (#19) knocked out underdogs Glentoran FC (#28). #1 side Bigo1 qualify by a single point against tough opposition from the All Star Gunners.
The BFFA CUP THIRD ROUND will be played in Gameweek 27 which begins on Saturday 10th February and kicks off with Spurs vs Arsenal!
The draw will probably take place whenever Morty gets round to cleaning his kitchen. I hear that he’s having an FA Cup party this weekend with all guests dressing up as their favourite West Brom player and putting on dodgy Birmingham accents…
