The Quarter-Finals:
Atletico Topo Chico | – v – | Hung Like a Bony |
CG XI | – v – | Sporting Wicker Park |
De Bruyne Trousers | – v – | StillluvQPR |
Goleta Hotspur | – v – | The Phenoms |
Atletico Topo Chico #27 vs. Hung Like a Bony #2
Top of the bill is the all-Championship matchup that has some history. In the 2020 Winter Cup they met in the Third Round of the Cup where Hung Like a Bony won 43-33. Hung went on to lose in a dramatic semi-final replay to the eventual winners StillluvQPR.
Last year they met again in the Second Round where Hung won again, 38-25. That time losing to the eventual runners-up, All Star Gunners.
This year, the fates have put them together in the Quarter-Finals. It follows three league matchups where ATC have won twice (42-35 & 35-33) and Hung won the most recent, a massive 80-28 rout in GW23. Currently 8th and 2nd in the Championship, they will meet again in GW32 when they may replay if they tie here this weekend. The winner of this game will get a semi-final against either the CL Champions or the League One promotion-hopefuls that have won 11 of the last 13…
CG XI #11 vs. Sporting Wicker Park #14
Earlier this year, during Wicker Park’s successful CL campaign, these two exchanged blows in the Group Stage. Both took a win from the other and the pair topped Group A. SWP took the top spot and went on to win the tournament; CG XI agonisingly went out on a Quarter-Final tiebreaker after drawing 71-71 with Gloopy Yarbles. Had they won that tiebreaker (or scored a single point more in those two weeks), CG XI would’ve won the Champions League. And so it goes.
This will be the closest match-up of the four QF’s going into the weekend, ranked 11th & 14th in the Best-ish table. Across 29 weeks, their totals are only 24 points apart. CG XI have outscored Sporting Wicker Park 16 times this season, SWP have done the reverse 11 times and they’ve matched twice.
De Bruyne Trousers #8 vs. StillluvQPR #24
In our second of three(!) Quarter-Finals contested by league rivals, second-placed De Bruyne Trousers are set up against second-bottom StillluvQPR. In their three meetings this season, Stillluv won the first two (67-62 & 41-34) but DBT won the latest, 58-32 in GW24.
In DBT’s second Cup effort they’ve gone twice as far as they did last year, where they were unable to get past a Mighty Fine Feeling side that went on to win it. They’ve already knocked out Gloopy Yarbles, who KO’ed them out of the CL at the SF’s, they’ve got past a tricky Alleviate the Tedium side who were repeatedly scoring 50’s and next they face former winners.
Goleta Hotspur #3 vs. The Phenoms #10
Perhaps the tastiest tie of the four, the top two in League Two go head-to-head again for a place in the Semi-Finals. Currently separated by just one point at the top of the table, this clash between two of the top ten Best-ish sides could be a very high-scoring affair.
As with two of the other QFs, one side won the first two league meetings, in this case – Goleta won 64-53 & 38-22, then the other won the latest – The Phenoms won the last match 60-50. Their next match will be a really important match during the GW34 double gameweek.
