Smash & Grab 87 – 64 We have Kompany
The last time these two last met was in mid-February and S&G took three very important league points with a big 57-45 win, closing the gap between them down to two. From there, Smash went on to win four-in-a-row and move up to second place, while Kompany dropped to fourth, but still very much in the title chase.
The two teams went into this game adjacent in the rankings, 8th and 9th in the Best-ish table. The similarity ended there. Smash & Grab once again lived up to their name, racking up the biggest score of the round and took revenge on the team that knocked them out of the 2021 Spring Cup (then Bigger than Brolin) Semi-Final.
Orewa Ostriches 72 – 78 Mighty Fine Feeling
Orewa were making big waves in the Cup in their debut season with huge scores (73, 49, 62 & 72), but could not amass enough ticks in this busy double gameweek to overturn MFF. Mighty Fine Feeling reach their second BFFA Cup Semi-Final, their first since their own stunning debut season, and face another tough Premier League oppostion.
MFF have already knocked out league leaders Barons, and will now be asked to do the same to the team in second. They have played sixteen times overall, winning eight each. They have won one each in the Champions League, seven each in the Premier League over the last four seasons, but MFF have a slight historic advantage being 2-1 up in the league this season and up 705-662 fantasy points overall. But this will be their first Cup meeting and it’s probably never been so important.
Housewives Favourites 70 – 74 AFC Chester
The Best-ish #1’s Wives Fave unsurprisingly remain top of the Championship and are quickly looking like becoming the next team to join the Premier League. However, the former Championship side AFC Chester are on the war path clearing out the big names and scorching a path towards the Final. They have knocked out the BFFA’s number 1’s, 2’s & 3’s in the last three rounds and for their trials they are given the highest-ranked remaining side ASG (currently #5).
The El Dude Brothers 69 – 72 All Star Gunners
Cup ties are rarely as eye-catching as this – two of the Top Three teams AND league opposition – brought together just a week after they played in the League. ASG got their first win over Bros this season there, preventing the Dudes from moving up to Second and an automatic promotion place.
And the match didn’t disappoint. Just three points separated the two sides after sixteen PL games. Rashford, Mac Allister, Toney and Isak all scored for The El Dude Brothers, but Harrison, De Bruyne and Watkins (2) all scored for ASG. And it was the first of those two goals for Ollie Watkins that ultimately decided the tie – earning himself +2 bonus points and costing EDB’s Cucurella a clean sheet for an 11-point swing.
Next up, ASG will re-meet a side that they’ve not met in four and a half years. They last clashed in the Champions League group stage in Season 4; ASG won both games (39-34 & 53-44) on their way to winning the Group.
The Final Four!
