This year’s BFFA Cup began with a bang! Chucky Pad Warriors, bottom of the Premier League, came in all guns blazing with a score of 59, a full 20 matchpoints over their opponents – the legendary SB Town Baggers.
The shock of the Round came from League Two side Mourinho-lo who knocked out top-flight AC Reykjavik BC 42-40. This is the first time a League Two club has knocked out a Premier League team in the First Round of the Cup! The giant-killers will be joined in the Second Round Draw by seven more Premier League sides that were granted a first-round bye.
There was nothing to separate Goleta Hotspur and Cornballers FC this week and they will replay this weekend (Gameweek 23). Both teams have won 11, lost 11 in their respective Leagues. Goleta has a marginally better matchpoints tally (896 to 873), averaging just over one point a week better than their lower-league opponents.
Gloopy Yarbles passed fifty and ease through to the Second Round, Wijnaldum Leviosa and RelicFC also put up respectable scores to progress. Banana Swans and PSV Wide Open, both from the Championship are the other two successful teams this round and will await the draw to see if they face one of the remaining eight Premier League teams.
