There was plenty of Cup drama last weekend. We lost two more of the Top Ten teams, only one remains. We lost the people’s favourites, the underdogs, after a long and spectacular Cup run and both teams from one division.
The highest score in this season’s Quarter-Finals was put up by Smash & Grab. They were given a fair chase by Sugar Daddies of League Two, who also won their League match, but on the day S&G would’ve beaten anyone. They will go into the Semi-Finals as favourites to win the Cup not only because they are the only remaining team in the top-half of the Best-ish table, but because they have had one of the two best scores in each of the last three rounds!
At the fourth attempt PSV have finally beaten Mighty Fine Feeling this season. Despite Mane’s 14 and Jimenez’s goal against Chelsea, MFF couldn’t do enough this week to see them past Vardy and Wilson. PSV, now the only Championship team remaining in the Cup, will need to balance their squad between important League fixtures and their Semi-Final during the unbalanced next couple of weeks.
In the lowest-ever scoring match in BFFA Cup history, Mourinho-lo‘s giant-killing run came to an end. After going out in the Quarter-Finals for the past two seasons, Wijnaldum Leviosa have finally made it to the Final Four and stand a good chance of winning it, but will almost certainly need to improve their scores.
Mixed blessings for our final pair. K.H. Granitza Sting won their League match against runaway leaders and current Cup holders Tralfamadore Zoo, but lost last weekend to the Premier League’s FC Santa Barbara who, unfortunately, lost their League match in a six-pointer with S&G. With both teams in the Semis, an opportunity for revenge may come out of the draw this Saturday…
The Semi-Finals begin on Saturday 30th March.
