BFFA Cup – Semi-Final Results

We knew as early as the end of the Second Round that we would have a new Champion in the BFFA Cup this year and now there are only two teams competing for that honour.
The scores are in, we have the names of our two finalists.

FC Santa Barbara (#22) 61 – 68 (#30) Wijnaldum Leviosa
With two clean sheets, an assist and three bonus points, Aymeric Laporte led Leviosa into their first Cup Final. There were also clean sheets for Otamendi, Davies and Trippier and a bundled-in goal for Martial in United’s 2-1 win over Watford.
The outgoing FC Santa Barbara had some success this weekend by beating the team below them, East Loop United, and climbing a place above Bigo1 who lost to the other Premier League side in the Semi-Finals – Smash & Grab.

Smash & Grab (#6) 72 – 50 (#24) PSV Wide Open
The second Semi-Final this season was won quite comfortably by top flight Smash & Grab. In a very successful week for them they not only made their first Final (after being knocked out in three previous Semis-Finals), but they also climbed one place in the Premier League, closed the gap between them and fourth and practically guaranteed safety from relegation.
PSV on the other hand were the architects of their own demise. Having come this far, they couldn’t press past 50 points, even with players on double gameweeks. Most destructively, Ashley Young’s red card took points away and overshadowed goals from Sane, Vardy and two assists from Andre Gray. The low score also left PSV eighth in the Championship and running out of time.

The 2019 FINAL:
Wijnaldum Leviosa -v- Smash & Grab
With the BFFA still in it’s infancy, it’s common for the Cup to throw together teams that have never met before. This year’s Final is another example of this, creating a new chapter in the books of these two sides
As scheduled, the Final will take place in Gameweek 35. Because of postponements due to FA Cup fixtures, this Gameweek will feature four extra matches – that means double Gameweeks for eight teams.
The Final will begin on Saturday 20th April with Man City -v- Spurs, just three days after their Champions League encounter! There will then be thirteen more games including the rearranged fixtures of Spurs -v- Brighton & Watford -v- Southampton on Tuesday 23rd and Wolves -v- Arsenal & the Manchester Derby on Wednesday 24th.
It will be the longest (possibly most exciting!) Cup Final yet, played over five days, across fourteen fixtures, and will be the first to be contested on Easter weekend. Last year we saw a record total of 113 combined points in the Final. This year has the potential to be so much more!
