And then there were four.
The mighty Bigo1 edge past Wijnaldum Leviosa by a mere two points. Rashford’s second-half appearance on Monday night kept Rüdiger on the bench and denied the League One title-challengers another BFFA Cup replay.
Boss Barkley taught me this week to never underestimate the underdog. Pay heed all you strugglers – even the mighty Relic can slip up. Blame Pep, blame the Champions League, blame it on the boogie if you like, the result is still the same – Barkley make the Final Four; League One lose both their representatives.
The only Quarter-Finalist to have visited the Semi-Finals before were Smash & Grab and they…did it again. They won with the same sort of ease as you’ll see from Troy Deeney going one-on-one with the ‘keeper. Smash also made the penultimate round in the Champions League this season and will be keen to better their record in the Cup. There are however, no easy games at this point.
Finally, our number two team, top of League Two by ten clear points and the only side within a week’s worth of matchpoints of the number one spot – Tralfamadore Zoo – hit over 50 points for the third consecutive round and glide into the Semis with, coincidently, the same score with which they won their League match this week.
So, our top two teams are in the draw for the next round. We have two Premier League teams, two table-toppers and two mid-table stalwarts. The Semi-Finals begin on Saturday 31st March, after the FA Cup weekend ‘lull’ and the Premier League week off. The gameweek begins with Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool and finish on April Fools’ Day with Arsenal, Stoke, Chelsea and Spurs. In the reverse fixtures for this week (in Gameweek 2) – 7 of the 10 games had clean sheets, there were 4 red cards, 2 braces, 2 penalties and an own goal.
As the season nears the end, there’s plenty of planning to be done.
Here are the Quarter-Final results in full.
Have a great month!
